When I was the penciller on Robin & Catwoman back in the 90's one of the inkers I worked with was Wayne Faucher who loved to use splatter. I always loved his inks & trusted him implicitly so I would simply tell him to use it wherever he felt like the art needed it. I imagine Chris Bachelo & Bucky had a similar working relationship on this book, so although it's possible that Chris might put a note in the margin of the art board for Bucky to use splatter, I suspect it was more often Mark's call.

Chris Bachalo's first work for Marvel was X-Men Unlimited #1 (Apr-1993). The first three issues of Ghost Rider 2099 (Mar-1994) was his second work for Marvel. He had just ended his stint on Shade the Changing Man. I really hope you guys can do an interview with Chris one day. He's an awesome guy.

Ghost Rider 2099 was my favorite, that Bachalo art was exciting and new to me. Also the reason Gen X/ Next was on my read list too until they swapped artists out for Gen X. ✌🏾

Doom 2099 is way more cyberpunk, especially the Warren Ellis issues.

Hard to say with the time (and breakdowns vs full art), but if you look at a bunch of the Original Shade pages, Chris often played with photocopies. I have a few originals, and there are patterns you couldn't get in zip, but he would make them through photocopy (from where, I don't know) - so it's possible some of the weird backgrounds you mention are photocopy based.

It's so great so see you doing more of the 2099 #1's. X-Men 2099, Ghost Rider 2099 and Doom 2099 are my favourite 2099 books. If you want to try some real stinkers from 2099, try Fantastic Four 2099 or 2099 World of Tomorrow, latter of which was the book that was made after Cavalieri was fired and most 2099 writers quit in protest. Also the Parody Press released 2099 books are awful. If you want a surprisingly good 2099 parody book, I would recommend Married With Children 2099 that was published by Now Comics.

Great video and great-looking comic. Death: The High Cost of Living and Generation X were my first Bachalo comics (and still probably favorite). I always wondered how to pronounce his name but never thought to look it up. I finally did and Ed says it right. It's "buh-CHAH-low" as he says here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3rGlGmZj9qXpKs
