The pages are sooo bright for how old they are. Awesome to see inside of those books

Aw man that’s too bad. I like that you focus on the positive not the negative. Very good informational video that everyone will benefit from and it’s even better that you have real life examples to show. I have learned the hard way from buying so I always check everything and I realize even if you do that I can miss stuff so everyone I sell too I always make sure they can come back to me if something is not right. So far only had one come back and that was he was in a hurry at a show and he came back and the condition was not as good as he was hoping so he could flip. I gave full refund and have it in my collection and am. Glad to have it as it is the first silver age app of hawk man. Yeah it’s amazing how many sellers on eBay don’t look inside. You can tell a lot of time from outside that the staple is popped and they don’t mention it. Does this keep you from buying collections from cross country? My best to you. Jess. And thanks for the video. And grand comic database is the best.

I get that checking a book for condition throughout if you are a seller, but if someone is selling a large collection it would take a very long time to check page count and to find out how many pages each book needs, that would suck.
@AutomaticComics9 ай бұрын
Yeah. But that’s part of the job, at least above a certain price point. I don’t expect people to check dollar books. But if you’re selling a book for like $25 or more, you owe the buyer to check the book.

As old as that superman 61 is, it's in amazing condition, even with a chunk of page missing and the mouse nibbles.

Thank you for the deep dives...the second book was nice!

Ok, cool… thanks for all the details on the pickup. Nice pickups, glad your happy.

I wouldn’t say I’m happy lol. Conditions are on average worse than I was expecting 🤷♂️

“Happy” I was only trying to make lite. Fortunately or unfortunately collectors endure.

Thanks so much for the info; been wondering for a while now whether page counts included the cover too. Nice to know finally.

You can see the interior of most books online to make sure the interiors match up, I had to do that a couple times. That Action 73 was missing a Zatara story.

Five years ago I bought a copy of Superboy 68 (the origin of Bizarro) at a one-day comic show in St. Louis. After getting it home I stored it for about six months before taking a look at it while being flat on my back from major ankle and foot surgery (flat on my back for four months). When I opened the cover, to my chagrin there was no Bizarro story. Instead I discovered the interior to Superboy 67 had been married to the cover of Superboy 68! Needless to say I was bummed out. I don’t know if the scammer was the dealer or the person who sold it to him, or how many ever links there were in the chain, but clearly there was fraud here. This purchase was really motivated by sentimental/nostalgia reasons because I still remember buying it as a boy from a local grocery store on a Sunday morning over a half century ago. So I’m not concerned about the financial loss, just disappointed by not having the real thing. This incident has taught me to be careful, though, when buying raw issues, to check carefully that no marrying of covers and interiors has occurred.

Damn that’s a couple of rough ones, that should help recuperate some of the cost.

Ugh that stinks, sorry man! Hopefully no more issues on the rest 🤞

Now that you’ve had a chance to go through the books, do you regret having bought the collection or think that you should’ve paid less? This is a very instructional video. Takes some balls to buy an expensive collection cross-country!
@AutomaticComics9 ай бұрын
I wouldn’t have bought it if I had seen it in person. The problem is just the conditions. They’re worse than I was expecting. It’s not like there isn’t value there. I can probably get my money back out of it. But obviously that isn’t the goal when buying a collection. I don’t consider this an expensive collection though. It’s a small percentage of my inventory, so it was a gamble that I could afford to take. Just a gamble that didn’t pay off. I will however have plenty of content for the channel for a while 😂

Books are looking great regardless.

Since it is married anyway, you may as well look for a coverless #89.
@vorazi089 ай бұрын
On the A89 did you sell the cover separately or "as is" with the #73 interior?
@AutomaticComics9 ай бұрын
I sold it as is with the 73 interior. I was basically just selling the cover. The incomplete 73 interior isn’t worth selling separately IMO.

Are you going to back to the dealer to make it right?
@AutomaticComics9 ай бұрын
He gave us a little bit to compensate for it. So at least there’s that. But not equivalent to the lost value.

Can you sell the cover only as Action comics NG CGC..🙅
@AutomaticComics9 ай бұрын
I sold it raw and just disclosed that it had the wrong interior and the interior was incomplete.

That Action is as close to worthless as a GA book can be. 😢
@AutomaticComics9 ай бұрын
I’d have to disagree. It sold almost immediately.
@silveragedc9 ай бұрын
I just don't see how this is any different than selling a cover less comic and a cover to another comic separately, both of which would have very little value. This isn't like chocolate and peanut butter, two great things that taste great together 😂 Curious what you got for it. Reminds me of the adage about a fool and his money. Love your videos Ryan, you've really put out some interesting content lately 👍

@silveragedc This is where there’s a big difference between golden age and other eras. Covers and interiors can still maintain a decent amount of value because the books are more rare and expensive. It is very common for people to buy separate parts of books to try and piece them back together to create a whole book in the golden age. For example, the cover on its own of detective comics 27 sold for over $200k last year. A copy of suspense 3 with a married cover and a married centerfold (meaning the book was put back together from 3 different books) sold for approximately $30k. My Superman 2 has a married cover (cover and interior are from different books, but combined to make a complete copy) is multiple thousands of dollars. The pieces of these books can be very valuable still on their own. And the cover for Action 89 is very popular. Someone may just want that cover to display, or they have an interior for 89 and they’re going to marry them to make a complete book. Knowing this kind of information ensures you get the value out of your books.

Dave you are too obsessed with the color the book literally sucks. I would be extremely mad as it was done as a scam! Nice video
