Great content! The variation you are talking about is due to microclimates. Even gardens in the same zip code can experience the same frost differently. It helps to consult with other home gardeners in your area. Local nurseries are also informative because they can tell you about the microclimates in your area.

We have had a bit of a reprieve the last few days. It might actually hit 50 tomorrow which will be great!

Zone 1a here. Current temp is -35 F. We usually plan for a last frost date of June 1st, but always keep an eye on the weather, I have seen measurable snow fall on May 31st and last frost as late as June 20th. Consider using a "cold garden bed" cover or some other type of insulator when planting outdoors when cold weather is forecasted.

Wow. I thought we had it tough being in zone 3b/4b (depends on which guide you use) our last frost date is around the middle of May. (In Canada)

It is interesting to me that when you move into the lower numbered zones the frost dates get so close together. We are zone 6 b and our expected last frost date is May 15th, and I have seen a frost as late as June 5th.

@@StoneyAcresGardening its also difficult to plant because we still have so much snow on the ground in April. I start all my seeds indoors in the middle of march. Grow lights and shelving units have been a necessary investment.

According to farmers almanac last two days were planting days. I am in zone 7 mostly transplanting from containers these days. Have winter spinach cabbage onions lots of herbs and surprise either a squash or watermelon has popped up in one of my critter snack spots how fun... Many thanks for this informative video

When I was young, you could set your clock by freeze dates but with today's whacked out climate, how many times have I planted just to have a freeze a month after beautiful weather? And what's with the sun? I have to put my tomatoes, etc where they'll be in afternoon shade to keep them from frying.

@@StoneyAcresGardening A few years ago I called in to a garden talk radio program with a question and the guest asked me when my first frost date was and years ago I could've answered that in my sleep but I hesitated, thinking "who can know anymore". The guy must've thought I was a real newbee. Lol.

So after frost date is around may 15 for zone 5 but a lot of my seeds say 4 to 6 weeks before last frost date.... So im planting in april? End of march?

It depends on what plants we are talking about. Your cool season crops will go out 4 to 6 weeks before your last frost. Warm season crops will need to wait until after your last frost.
