Advices for the pit stops: The driver that is going to step in should be already prepared before the car even enters the pit lane. As for the fuel, try fitting a transparent fuel tank with a bigger refill hole and use more powerful pumps. Every 3 hours check the brakes, especially the pads, brake fluid check is also advised. During repairs (like the throttle thing) check tire's pressure and adjust it. Advices in general: Try to not rev the car at its maximum, keep it 2k rpm lower than red line. Do some lift and coast to preserve fuel and in medium - high speed corners try to stay lower on rmps to use less fuel as possible

Can you explain the surgical tubing more? I was thinking of magnets on the roof for the top 2 straps.
@daveyriendeau2102 жыл бұрын
@@chrisfix we also use magnets for the right shoulder strap to attach up to the rollbar next to the rearview mirror. Additionally a Velcro plate fixed up to the top of the rollbar as a failsafe. The surgical tube gets fixed to the left lap belt, crotch belt and another on the right lap belt to pull it back and out of the way as soon as the driver unlatches the belts it will pull them out of the way. @yipchitaywonga2 жыл бұрын
exactly, miata over cooked it, even leaving him more room would have just moved the accident further ahead.
@LiamDennehy2 жыл бұрын
I disagree, I think the Miata is just able to brake much later being so light, so even though it seems the BMW is ahead at the start of the turn the Miata is alongside in the corner. Not blaming the BMW driver, but these two cars have vastly different performance.
@bradmaas68752 жыл бұрын
@@LiamDennehy The Miata is smaller and lighter, he had enough room, he came in hotter and failed to brake sufficiently to avoid contact.
@yipchitaywonga2 жыл бұрын
@@LiamDennehy I agree 100% with the Miata being able to brake later, IMO he dove in too late. If he had been alongside (at least front wheel to front door) before turn in, that would have been fine, BMW would/should have given him space. But in this case BMW should have gotten right of way, BMW was faster, the pass was going to happen anyways. Don't get me wrong I like so aggressive racing but I don't think it was appropriate for this kind of race.
@FullAssRacing2 жыл бұрын
Yeah... the BMW had that line and the miata was living in the vortex of danger. In the Miata's defense... I suppose it's possible he had a mechanical issue such as brake fade. At the end of the race a good bit of the cars are having some form of issue or another.

@Chrisfix I am a local driving instructor for people trying to learn proper racing etiquette, racing line, and car control. You guys did well, and the red Miata incident was due to that car braking too late and missing the racing line. He went inside and had about 5 mph too much speed. Once he missed the braking point he couldn't do anything about it. The car couldn't hold that inside line with the available grip, so as soon as he hit the rumble strip it unloaded that side of the suspension slightly. That put to much stress on the outer front tire and he understeered into you guys.
@VirmanaMarketing2 жыл бұрын

At a guess, the lightweight Miata believed they could outbreak the BMW and get onto the inside line, forcing you to the outside. Having said that, from the rear footage it looks as though the BMW had already started turning meaning the Miata had to leave space rather than crossing your racing line.

Agree - the MX5 (sorry, Brit here 😁) was in the wrong, you had the corner by a mile. Ultimately, though, just a racing accident. I do feel it was deeply unfair that you had to take a "4 wheels off the track + collision" penalty for something that a) wasn't your fault, and b) the driver at the time was doing the sensible thing & checking the car was still driveable before returning to the track. IMHO Lemons should look at a rule change there.
@TheCarDemotic2 жыл бұрын
@@theelectricmonk3909 Yeah that penalty isn’t deserved in my opinion. For something that’s not your fault and for ensuring the safety of yourself and the fellow drivers I think the 10-20 second time loss from going off track is more than sufficient. Rules are rules though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@ondrejnejeschleba62782 жыл бұрын
i am not sure by that - i understand both. The BMW lifted way too early with having a car this close behind them. I know it's an endurance race, but still, you've got to expect that if you lift off that early in a corner with someone not that far back, they might send it. But yeah, the miata was a lot slower anyway and they would probably get passed on the first opportunity, so it was very unnecessary by them.

Track Addict has a feature where you can set pit speeds, and it will flash/yell at you when you are exceeding it - a good reminder for when you pit while being too excited :) Awesome video, awesome time, thanks for posting! Oh, regarding the rear contact with the red Miata, IMO, it was his fault, not your guys. It's always the responsibility of the overtaking car to ensure a safe and clean pass. Your guy did that in the straight, just before corner entry, with a good gap. The Miata essentially tried to late-brake you guys, but you were already cutting in toward the apex. Typically, if the other car was alongside your guy BEFORE the corner entry, then you would have had to give him the inside or else make contact. He tried to get alongside you by late-braking too close to comer entry IMO. At that point, he was attempting a pass, and failed to ensure it happened safely and cleanly. He either went in a little too hot, wasn't paying attention, or was pissed at getting passed.

Great editing (problems included). As someone who raced many, many, moons ago. Back in my 20's. Each & every one of you did a fantastic job of clean racing. That Miata, was nowhere near your "B" pillar. So underestimated himself bigtime and deserved a penalty too match. Overall... Well done! And with a little fine tuning. I expect a podium finish next year! =D
@tracklizard40182 жыл бұрын
Here your bumper needs to hit their front door for it to be "overlap" and it has to be done PRIOR to any steering input by the lead car. It's always the overtaking cars responsibility to pass safely though so it's 100% on the miata. The miata is 100% in the wrong for several reasons but dive bombing post steering input of the lead car instantly makes it 200% miatas fault. Quidk edit: We don't know the rules in this specific race but there's no way that's allowed in any racing series beyond rallyX or folkrace.

The red Miata was being to brave into the corner. You were ahead of him in the corner, and he thought he could take you on the inside. So its all his fault, because he was behind you, and he overdrove his abilities to overtake in a corner. Good video :)
@teknoprep2 жыл бұрын
Negative I was trying to follow him through and he took way too much apex unexpectedly We were back and forth all day between the miata and him. I thought he knew I would be there with how many times we pass each other Assumptions is what caused that accident
@Gancherov2 жыл бұрын
@@teknoprep What are you talking about? The red miata at 28:07 clearly was well behind you on the straight and dive bombed the inside of that corner right into your rear door/quarter panel. You COULD have left him more room (maybe), but that contact was completely his fault since he was STILL well behind you going into the corner.
@Gancherov2 жыл бұрын
@@teknoprep Sorry, now I get it - you're the driver of the red car. You're saying that you expected him to leave you some more room there because he would be familiar with the speed you could carry through that corner? I see how you might say that assumption hurt you, but in basic terms you overdrove the corner and hit his car from behind through the INSIDE of a corner. That's still 100% your fault. What is "too much apex"? He's out in front and clear of traffic, he's entitled to as much apex and whatever line variation he wants.

As someone who participated in his first endurance race a year ago this month I can say this is an excellent video to show the highs and lows of the sport. It’s absolutely addicting (3 events complete so far!) and I’m already building a second car to go with the team car. As far as the contact is concerned there is a great video from Randy Pobst on the ChampCar channel about this exact thing. Essentially the Miata had the door closed on them on corner entry unexpectedly. Your driver thought they were clear and the Miata thought you would be taking a middle line leaving room and bang! Glad nobody was hurt. For anyone watching this, if you think you’d have fun TRY IT! Check the forums for Lemons, Champcar, and Lucky Dog. There are arrive and drive teams where you pay the car owner for a seat for the weekend. There is even a company that rents out the gear you need minus nomex socks (that’d be gross). This makes budget endurance racing “try before you buy” a totally possible proposition. Thank you Chris for exposing your audience to endurance racing. If you think you’d be intimidated please don’t let that stop you. The people I’ve met have been so inviting and helpful that it’s hard not to feel like a part of the family right away.

I'd also call it a no-fault racing incident, obviously the lighter miata was able to brake much later which caught garret off guard
@droid10082 жыл бұрын
@@kwajtube For me, it looked like Garrett was ahead going into the corner, but left just enough room that the miata thought it could sneak in. As he turned more for the corner, the gap closed and that's when the contact happened. Someone's at fault but I don't know who

Trying to dive bomb a faster car in an endurance race seems pretty offside to me. Maybe if you’re racing for position that’s legit but totally unnecessary here imo.

@@droid1008 100% agree with the fact the miata is lighter and probs caught Garrett of guard. IMO the miata did enter "The Vortex of Danger" and while yes the miata could of possibly made it, the reponsibilty to SAFELY pass is the the passing driver.

@Sweetreturns2172 жыл бұрын
Awesome race guys! You all were very close lap times, good driver roster there. The accident: There is no track where the red car could’ve make the turn at that speed, his braking point was to short, there was no way he could make the apex in the inside line at that speed. What your driver could have done is to leave the room at the apex or look at his side mirror before turning onto the apex. Those are hard because could’ve been also that the other driver didn’t know the limit of his car. Probably not even a wide line would’ve avoided the accident. Either way awesome job!
@DJAulix2 жыл бұрын
To be honest, the crash with the red miata was completely the miata's fault. Bmw was on the raceline and way in front while entering the corner, the miata driver should've known that he couldn't make that corner, while approaching a corner with 2 cars, the one in front whilst entering has the right to stay on the raceline, the other driver HAS to brake and leave space

Great race y'all! As far as the altercation with the red Miata, it doesn't look like you guys did anything wrong. Congrats on the success, you guys did amazing for a second time out! And that Miata driver was 100% at fault imo, that was a hard inside dive they pulled, something that might work in sims but is way too risky to pull at that skill level in real life. Especially because they probably didn't have the brakes or traction to pull off the corner even if they made it past.
