Wow, thank you so much for this video!! I can relate so much, especially as a fellow mum of 3 children. Everything from keeping the family closer to home before big events (Christmas being the biggest worry, followed by birthdays, trips, etc), not wanting to voice the source of my anxiety out loud for fear it will all become more real, my brain shutting down in the event of a stomach bug (literally have trouble thinking beyond that day and I'll get really mad and upset if someone asks me about future or upcoming plans), and yes, I also feel that all my worrying turns into premonitions. My mind is one big cycle of "what if". I hate not being able to control and predict everybody's health. This must sound so silly to those who don't suffer from emetophobia but your video proves that I'm not alone in this. It is a legitimate fear and source of anxiety. Thank you so much for voicing your thoughts. xoxo

I am at school, with emetophobia. The worst thing for me is when someone says, they are feeling sick. My heart rate speeds up, and I feel dizzy and sick myself. Then I get worried I am going to puke. Public toilets are also hard for me, especially when someone coughs in the stall next to me. BUT THE WORST is public/school transport. I have a school thing coming up soon, and it's an hour away. I am going to go by van. I'm really nervous about that. Thank you so much for sharing this video, I really needed it. I now know I am not alone, and I understand more about it. Thank you so, so much.

Thank you for posting these. I just found your videos on this topic today. I struggle with emetophobia as well, and it helps so much to hear someone else explain the irrational thoughts. I’ve been afraid of having children because of it, but not enough to stop me from actually wanting them. I’m just nervous to think about how I will cope when the time comes. Your videos have helped me to think through the irrational thoughts more realistically and know that it really will be okay. Thank you!❤️

I have emetophobia as well, and I can tell you it is not easy. My friends go all weird with me when I talk about it (I am 11) so it's a bit embarrassing because I can literally make myself physically 🤢 vomit if I think about sick. It is hard telling people close to you about personal things like this. Reading the comments and watching this video has made me realise I'm not the only one who struggles with this. Thank you 😊 💓

I’ve always had emetophobia but I didn’t know what it was called until recently. Fortunately mine isn’t as bad as others, or at least not anymore. I remember one time my little brother got a stomach bug and kept throwing up all day and I kept hiding in my room and converting my eyes. My mom kept asking what was wrong with me but I was too embarrassed to tell her I was afraid of hearing the sound of his vomit let alone seeing it. When he was sick my mom even told me to rub his back while he was throwing up and I bolted to my room and hid. I hadn’t thrown up in over five years and I was always afraid of throwing up. One time I finally did, but I wasn’t as disgusted as I thought I’d be, and overall I was pretty happy that my stomach felt a lot better than it did before I threw up. I still have emetophobia now, but it’s nowhere near as bad as it used to be.

I fear starting to feel nauseous because I think that means that I will get sick, so it's paralyzing because worry makes me nauseous. I'm basically nauseous all the time due to my emetophobia. It's hard to know if I'm nauseous from anxiety or nauseous from an actual problem..
@ChloeBridge
@ChloeBridge 6 жыл бұрын
It's one of the cruellest parts of being emetophobic - that the symptoms we are most afraid of are actually exacerbated by our worry. I have felt nauseous many times and been convinced I was getting ill, only to later realised it was anxiety giving me all the same symptoms x

When someone else was sick when I was in class a few years ago the girl next to me was like "oh my gosh are you ok you look really pale and you are shaking so much" and then we went outside and my seat had to be moved a few days later because even thought it was cleaned up days ago I still went out the other door and was always anxious for a few months but I have been watching some of these videos and it has calmed down. I still don't like going to school mainly for this reason. Some people think there is something really wrong with me

This is a brilliant video. I did one months back about my mental health for channel mum as I have a 25 year history of severe anorexia that all started from emetophobia. I was sick as a very small girl and gradually cut out meat and certain foods until I was was eating no more. It never went away and I still struggle with it now and left with life long damage from malnutrition . Moving and marrying helped and actuallt my kids helped as my husband works away and I have basically had no choice to deal with it and the exposure did help. I can only cope just about with them. However my husband also has cancer and even though I know he cant help being sick or couldn't when on medication I spent 6 months using my neighbours toilet, sleeping downstairs and peeing in cups!! Thank you so much for talking about this. It's somethinf I never spoke about as assumed it was so rare but it's not xx

Yammy Mackin no it’s much more common than we think. So sorry you’ve had such a tough time. Your food anxieties sound similar to what my son has: ARFID, where sometimes a trauma in early life leads you to eliminate certain foods and be anxious about trying new things again. There is a support group on FB xx

This fear has almost taken most of my life from me, from the age of as I can remember 3 to 25 when I started to recover. Exposure therapy is the only way I found to get my life back. The outcome for me was just horrific , embarrassment , shame, guilt, could not look after my children. I left my children with their father for fear of them growing up with the same odd behaviour as me and I would not have wished that on them

I used to be really really calm, but growing up, I started developing Emetophobia. To the point that throwing up is all I can think about and it TERRIFIES me! Not just throwing up, also getting sick. Since I started thinking about getting sick all the time, I started feeling extremely nauseous all the time. To the point that I sleep with a bucket by my bed. I am still like that. I have just had my youngest of 4 children get a tummy bug on Friday night..... obviously.... I had a major panic attack and I’ve been getting worse and more erratic since that night..... 2 nights on my other 3 children and my youngest all stayed with dad. I found out yesterday that they all threw up including dad ( not to mention grandma and my friend who was also around us all this past week!) I’m not on day 4 of being absolutely paranoid of this bug hitting me. I’ve not hardly eaten I’ve been using anti sickness meds and doing everything possible to stop it from making me sick. I’m now sat up unable to sleep because I’m frightened to death of them all coming back to me and me having more chance of still catching it in case one of the kids still hasn’t fully gotten past the illness. I feel like I’m going insane now and need advice from people who understand this phobia!?
