Moved here from Southern California a few years ago. Aside from the winter weather, there is much less crowding and traffic and access to medical care is so much better than crowded Southern California. Cost of living is less but home maintenance costs here are astronomical compared to socal.

Thanks for sharing - Prices in SoCal are crazy. My wife and I lived in Irvine for a bit, and couldn't even imagine owning a home with prices where they were at even back in 2014.

I love living in Michigan. I’ve lived in Ohio, Chicago, and Toronto for long period of time and I think Michigan is a wonderful state , so much to do overall , it’s pretty reasonable, cultural scene, the lakes and outdoor activities are phenomenal, winters are fairly mild anymore, And overall, the people are pretty decent and it’s a pleasant lifestyle. There’s so many eras you can pick and choose from . We live right in downtown Detroit and love it, and others have other preferences of course. No interest in moving out. Prices that are mentioned in here that have gone up is everywhere. I don’t find any place that’s cheap frankly, and many many …especially coastal states. are way higher as well as mother nature is beginning to wreak havoc on them and this will not stop. We seem to be fairly insulated and have incredible access to freshwater and resources.

Metro Detroit is not a good representation of living in Michigan. Pick someplace north of Lansing like St Johns. Most of Michigan is rural. It costs me half as much to live in Montcalm County as Wayne County. The politics in this state suck. Not your father's Michigan.

Good point. Roughly 50% of the population live in Southeast Michigan because of the job market. Living in the rest of the state sounds appealing but people tend to go where the majority of high paying jobs are.

As a Michigander, if you're thinking about moving here, don't. I'm considering leaving myself.

Can you share why?

@TRULIVINGMICHIGAN I've been here nearly 20 years. Born in Battle Creek in the 80's. Conditions here have continued to deteriorate, and the government has become more and more single party, and out of touch. The economy has absolutely left the working class behind, and unless you're white collar and willing to live in a metro area with high crime, survival is pretty much a knife fight. After watching the last 6 years in this state, I don't believe it will turn around, and I'm giving serious research towards an exit plan for a place that will offer better opportunities. I don't like this idea, as I love the land up here and the great lakes, but it has become untenable.

@@buggyridge I was actually doing the math on median income for something unrelated, and I found that the median monthly income here is a bit over $4,100/mo. I don't want to misquote the video, but if I recall correctly, that's around $1200 less than what he figured for living costs. That math don't math, Bobby.
