I've been daily driving a 1988 Honda Prelude 2.0Si 4WS since I purchased it in 2002. Over the years, I have done all the repairs and maintenance myself, and sometimes with the help of a friend. Early on in the ownership of my Prelude, the engine broke a rod, but fortunately the damage was not catastrophic.. Performed a rebuild with a used crankshaft and set of New Old Stock connecting rods (fortunate finds), rod and crank bearings, 3 new valves, and all the other parts needed to refresh the engine such as rings, gaskets, seals, timing components and clutch set were installed, along with a very mild port & polish on the cylinder head intake and exhaust runners while waiting for parts. The engine has been extremely reliable with basic maintenance and periodic tune-up over the years. Around 2009, I replaced the aging exhaust with a full stainless 4-2-1 OBX Header, and stainless 2.5" Catback exhaust from Legal Speed Designs (LSD), which has, in my own opinion, the most desirable exhaust note of any catback system available for the Prelude. I have often driven newer and more powerful vehicles, which are sometimes fun and certainly faster, but I always find the handling dynamics of the Prelude to be highly satisfying. It is a really enjoyable and rewarding car to own, drive and maintain.

It's actually a "Limited Lifetime Warranty" on all safety restraints and harnesses, but in the manual it states for the "Useful life of the vehicle" so depending on the condition of the vehicle and the dealership service department's discretion, they may or may not do this service under warranty. I plan on asking my local Honda dealer for this repair on my 1988 Prelude 2.0Si 4WS, but I'm waiting until I repair a couple of body issues before I take it in, to reduce the chance of refusal. My seatbelts will still lock when pulled, but in cold and humid weather, the seatbelts do not like to retract like they should.

Nice Prelude! Would they be worth more stock today?? Owned an 88 Prelude S for years, great car, quality built- no rattles or squeaks. Good reliable engine, no leaks. It ate half shafts--put in 3sets before I sold it. Presently I have a low mileage 2000 SH, IMO not as good as my 88. It rattles, leaks, hard shifting, harder to work on. Love Preludes, personally the earlier models were the best.

I like both of them but the exterior on the celica i like better while the interior on the prelude its more cool. "Oh man, Prelude, I'm so proud of you dude!" LOL Love it! We all know what thats like. And I feel you on the safety thing, I drive mine defensively because we are so low that people just dont see us ay. Way too many close calls. I've got a photo of my lude next to a double cab ute, and I can fit into that thing twice. So tiny... Puts things into perspective really haha. I'd been daily driving my '91 i16 for two years until recently when I decided I wanted to park her up for some maintenance. Still head out once a week in it though, pretty sure it's actually impossible to put them aside for too long haha! Great vid! Watching from NZ :)

Best Daily Ever! ...you can feel and be part of the driving experience in a prelude. Its stock power is ok but the handling, balance and visibility are incredible. Best seats (ricaro) for its time too! It was waaay ahead of the game for the late 80s. FUN FACT: The 1988 3rd gen prelude was the fastest car beating even supercars, Ferrari's and Corvette's, etc in the slalom test that year. There nothing like taking a road trip in a prelude. A true "drivers" car.

I’ve had many cars. Including RX7s ,,, 280 Zs ,,, and American muscle as well. My 1991 Prelude, very lightly modified, is my favorite of all. It’s probably one of the slower cars I’ve owned, But,,,, I truly enjoy it as much if not more than anything I’ve driven. It screams drivers car. Love your car man.

Seatbelts only lock on collision. They’re loose like that normally because they’re door mounted belts and you leave them buckled in to exit the vehicle with them still buckled.

Either way I’d take them to honda to get them redone and make sure they’re functioning properly and not actually broken broken . Lifetime warranty for seatbelts/any recalls/safety hazards discovered later on in the cars line

i’m thinking of buying one to daily and i know with 5ths the automatic transmission always fails but is it common in 3rds too? and would it be worth it to buy a manual and learn on it?
@ConnorLee
@ConnorLee 3 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, go manual 100%. If the auto has been maintained I dont see why it wouldnt last a long time too. But manual tranny weighs less, easier to work on, better mpg, and more fun

Curious. Does your speedo work in the lude? Apparently, they only engage if you're traveling over 5 mph. My speedo doesn't work so I dont know how the car will know that I am moving and to engage the seatbelts during an accident
