I left Mormonism when I was 39, that was 23 years ago. It took a long time to untangle all of the damage and stunted growth that growing up Mormon caused in my life. This past year my relationship with God has completely changed. I have learned on a deep and personal level that Jesus is my God, not my brother or fellow created being. It's all the difference in the world.

John Lee hate is a strong word, and frankly a waste of emotional energy. Reaching out and hearing others viewpoints with an open mind doesn’t make me a hater, calling out actual haters doesn’t make me a hater either. Haters are people who spend the majority of their time on Internet forums searching out people who disagree with them and attempt to insult and belittle those who view things differently. Sounds more like you hun. I’m not saying to “get a life” because I’m hateful, but because I’m positive that the amount of time you spend on the internet going around insulting people with different views from you cannot be good for your mental health.

John Lee you can not control what others do, no amount of guilt tripping and brainwashing can change that. However you can control how you view things yourself and can learn to be a more understanding and loving person. Try being more Christ like and stepping into their shoes to understand what they go through so maybe you can understand. Christ doesn’t go around calling people idiots, so neither should you. It doesn’t help you or anybody else. Also, it might not be a bad idea to look into seeing a specialist for your possible narcissism and paranoia. Just a soft suggestion

That's impressive analytical content. You have a well developed "reflective consciousness" - the ability to see, evaluate and change your own thinking and perception as well as use such ability to understand the thinking of others. A lot of people can think, in a technical sense, but not a lot of people can think about the thinking itself. It requires an extra layer of intelligence.

Well when I did, I came across your video describing your experience. I just watched the KZbin video you've been recommending and he's basing his entire premise on the pre-supposition that the Bible is truth. Spot on with what you say about the church owning the experiences. Before I started questioning (36 years in the church) I had personal dream state visions that early mormons would eat up had their leaders spoken of these visions. I had dreams of seeing the saints come into the SLC valley, and of Brother Brigham saying "this is the place", I have had dreams of Christ and spoke with him on two separate occasions in my dreams. I got to see the afterlife in my dreams and spoke with many of the modern day prophets who have passed away. These are experiences true believing Mormons eat up. But in the end, all just dreams. As a true believing mormon, I ate them up and they were amazing experiences

A couple of years before I found out the real true history of the "church", it's interesting how my spirit knew before I knew. My spirit was trying to tell me in various ways. I was in a library looking for a good biography, and there was a book (out of 1000's) that was displayed prominently. The title was "No man knows my history". I thought "that sounds interesting" and reached for it. It was the expose by Fawn McKay Brodie, who was excommunicated decades ago for exposing Joseph. It listed all his plural wives. I had never questioned Mormonism, being a good little Mormon, faithful and loyal. Then I started getting urges to throw away my temple garments; then all my church books and manuals, I had about 25. Then I asked my home teacher for some tithing envelopes, and when he showed up with a Mormon from pioneer stock, as soon as they handed me the envelopes, something in me said I would never give the church another penny as long as I lived. All these things happened BEFORE I found out the truth. I might add that the things that made me begin to question the church were that the two most important topics that should've been discussed, abortion and homosexuality, were never discussed in the thousands of church meetings I attended. I felt these were important to God, and wondered why nobody ever broached the subjects.

That's interesting, I am a convert to the church and joined after researching all the anti-Mormon literature, but to me the church is just a beautiful religion and church and I don't feel it's a cult, but I can see how being born inside the church could be seen as a cult. But are the Amish a cult, the Mennonites? It's just a very separated community and belief system that it's true if you are just 'born into it' and don't choose it, you are kind of having your consent taken away from you to choose for yourself in a sense.

In reality, if you follow the teachings of the gospel, you will refrain from certain actions like drinking, smoking, swearing, etc... because it makes you more like our Heavenly Father. Most members I know have a lot of friends outside of the church and “the church” asks that we invite them to come and share in the knowledge of the gospel. I have not seen “the church” do otherwise. In regards to your state of questioning everything, we are encouraged to pray to Heavenly Father to validate if something is true or not. I have never been told to use the testimony of another person just because they stood up on fast Sunday; but rather, find out for myself because a testimony is your own. You won’t go far with anything in life if you rely on others to fuel you through whatever it is you are doing. In regards to your comment of preset arguments, I have never been taught this, have heard anyone talk of this, or teach my children this. I encourage everyone to study their scriptures in order to find the answers. Have you tried sincerely praying to Heavenly Father to know if the gospel and church is true? The words you spoke seem more like you felt you had to rely on others for this and then read anti-lds literature and believed it to be true. I am happy today because of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I have realized that being disciplined leads to happiness. I joined the church because of my own spiritual experiences involving the whisperings of the Holy Spirit. I have never felt forced to be a certain way or do certain things. A lot of members are upfront with the struggle and how it is a journey to be more like Christ. I wish you well and God bless.

A spiritual beliefs does not just revolve around what a church has done for you. God give us everyday challenges to fight r sins and he challenges r faith people r blind by all churches if u don’t pick up your Bible and read it and always blindly follow a church your salvation at risk

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the original source and the genesis of all polygamy in the USA. As much work as the church has done to distance themselves from that fact, it simply won't go away. Why, you ask? Because it is the truth, period.

Timmy, Timmy, Timmy. Really? One word for you: Muhammad. A sidebar question: are you suggesting that serial marriage is somehow intrinsically better for a society because it is rooted in serial monogamy?

No, it's quite obvious at this point that JS was nothing but a liar and fraud. The whole premise that he has provided the "true" word of God without the "errors" in the Bible has been thoroughly debunked by the Dead Sea Scrolls that show that the current bibles are very similar to the bibles of antiquity.

What an honest person. I like Mormons. There aren't many where I live. People have always sought perfection, in living and in religion. God wants us to follow Jesus and His teachings, stick close to God, not a building, not a choir group, not even a religion, for none of these are God, God is truth, God is life. Do not go forth into the world and pervert the words of God. Jesus is real, I had a near death experience, I was in a horrible motorcycle crash in the desert, I felt my spirit being pulled up toward a filter, my spirit was pulled through the filter, I saw all of my earthly darkness fall back to earth in big black moving blobs. I was entering the kingdom of heaven. The things of earth, bad thoughts, anger, fear, just not allowed into Gods realm. My grandparents looked concerned because I was a wild young man and they had probably witnessed others being sent elsewhere!!!!!! I asked where's all the colors, because it was like looking through wax paper. My thoughts were vocalized. There is nothing hidden. Then I saw a former friend who was killed at a young age running to me from about four miles away, but like in a slide show, click, 3 miles, click, two, one then standing right in front of me, in his hand were colors that were vibrant and moving! His hand went up and I knew if he completed the throwing of the colors to the place below him, I'd see the most vivid colors. Just then to my left was a three foot high hand, everything stopped, my grandparents still looking worried watched as I was being sent back to my body, I pleaded and begged to stay, but God is all powerful, once back in my body I saw my friend who t boned me and caused the crash, we were riding next to a highway in the desert trying to keep up with cars, I laid there next to the road over an hour, nobody stopped. My friend said, Vic I thought you died. The euphoria when I was there made me really not want to return to earth. Scientists will tell you that our body makes us feel that way when we are dying . This wasn't that. Please be very careful to put God first and praise Him daily, it is written, the Lord inhabits praise. My father would tell me, be at peace, now I say that to you.

I’m sorry for all of the negative experiences you’ve had growing up as a member of the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints. I have had some difficult experiences as well. :( I believe one of the reason we sometimes suffer in the hands of other members of the church, including sometimes leaders, as part of our test to see if we have faith in God, and not faith in people. But of course you have your moral agency, as we all do, to share your experiences and your beliefs. I do believe in Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost. I have been blessed beyond measure by striving to live the doctrines of the church. It’s not easy, and requires personal sacrifice. But the rewards in this life are incredible. I have too many blessings to count. The rewards in the next life are beyond description.

Scary stuff, so, as we find in criminal history, since so many LDS bishops molest children its not the fault of the church refusing to conduct background checks....its god? Really? This is the same church that actually fought in court to publish the name and addresses of child victims who suffered horrid abuse at the hands of their LDS father. The church also ordered 2 bishops and a relief society worker that were not allowed to report the abuse the LDS church was well aware of, to police. What kind of church does that? Its interesting the church then lied and claimed the Bishops in the case were lying about it....until their phones were subpoenaed . The church then tried the Scientology angle that its a "religion" and should be allowed to violate basic law. In the PBS story on it, the LDS attorney actually cracks a smile talking about it. Again what kind of "church" does stuff like that? When sam young started his campaign to end Worthiness interviews of young children at the hands of bishops, (where it is well known serious abuse was occurring) the church excommunicated him. What kind of church does that? Mind you there are hundreds of cases at protectldskids of the abuse children have suffered in such. Go to counseling groups for women off campus at BYU and listen how common abuse is for women to endure and how they are devalued and told to not report it...again, what kind of church does that?

I have been free to choose how I want to live. I find it further proof of my faith and beliefs as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ when there are those that fight against, and preach against my faith. I have had challenges, and questions, but I have felt pure peace when living the teachings found in the Bible and the Book of Mormon.

God Bless you ! While the Mormons appear to be so good, clean and talk about Jesus, they don’t tell the world what they really believe in. Like most of what Satan controls, the simple fact that they have their own book they say goes with the bible, This is strictly forbidden by the Lord - look at the last page of any king James Bible ( anyone who adds or subtracts from this book will not see the kingdom of God! Smith was filled with Satan. I mean they teach you that Jesus was Satans brother and that he won a contest between them both by God and that is why Jesus became the savior…. This is a LIE! You made the right choice to leave . Stick to the Bible and no other book and you’ll be fine.

So is the Islamic church true? They don’t accept Christ so you should point your beliefs towards them and tell them how Mohammad was a false prophet.

I'm not sure you understand the direction of my channel. Beliefs are fallible things that are based on faulty childhood conclusions and formulate quickly as adults from the slightest amount of sketchy information. After finding out how fallible our minds are (Watch a few Brain Games episodes) and having found out first-hand that I had formed beliefs around false information, ALL beliefs are now under question in my world. As soon as we stop questioning and think we have the answers, we stop learning & expanding.

What is the unsettling information did you find out about Joseph Smith I would like to know and did you get the information from anti Mormon literature it's interesting that you think they have all the facts about the truth about Joseph Smith I don't think they do either they just say what they want to support their beliefs against the church not actual facts.
