I totally understand where you’re coming from regarding flexibility. I’ve always been unnaturally inflexible and have to work three times as hard at it as others. Flexibility is highly dependent on your collagen composition, and many top athletes, particularly in artistic and rhythmic gymnastics, have collagen compositions that not only make extreme flexibility possible, but relatively easy.

Thank you for speaking so candidly about this. It's so interesting to hear the perspective of someone who has rounded, high-level experience of both sports talk about the differences between them and be open about the challenges of doing even elite after college, let alone both at the same time. I came to college gymnastics via the Gymcastic podcast and even while they were pushing the idea that's it's perfectly possible to do both at the same time, I was thinking, "well, if that's the case, then why doesn't everyone do it?" I feel like you've more than answered that question! Best of luck for your training, and please do carry on showing us the training videos. I love to hear what Coach Bob has to say, but I also think that in your bars videos you present a really positive example of a woman giving her all at her (let's be frank) probably least favourite event, with grit and a really strong competitive spirit, and showing great improvement as a result. As I said in another comment, you deserve all the good things. Looking forward to seeing you compete in Tokyo!

Just started watching your channel when it popped up as a recommendation and I'm loving it. I appreciate videos like this. I wanted to be a gymnast but at 5'10" that was never going to happen. Lol. I never considered the differences between elite and college and I have to say I prefer college gymnastics. To me it's more like the early days of elite, like you see in the 60s and 70s videos of Olga Korbut, Cathy Rigby, etc., when it was more about execution and style as opposed to power and difficulty. I feel like todays elite gymnastics is too.....chaotic for lack of a better word. It's funny I say that because Mary Lou Retton was my idol as a kid and she was (at the time) more of a power gymnast compared to Julianne McNamara who was more of a style gymnast. Fun fact about Julianne McNamara; her daughter Hannah Zeile plays teenage Kate on This Is Us. Anyway, loving the videos and appreciate your openness about your career and all it entails. And the videos where you're teaching Jonas gymnastics is both hilarious and just plain fun. I appreciate him being willing to do that on video. He's a good sport!

Getting more flexible is possible. I was an artistic gymnast in the 1970s. I am 62. I am re training flexibility. Even though I can still do all splits, they didn't split 180 in leaps and various other things. It takes longer, and you need to take breaks from training for a few days here and there, but I am making progress. I didn't notice lower flexibility until I was in my 50s, and didn't really work on it then. Some of your issue could be foods you consume that cause inflammation in your body. You may want to find a good natural nutritionist to help you in that area if you are serious about it.

@@Appaddict01 I get showing support because you're competing on a team, but to shun people who are naturally shy/reserved, and are doing their best to cheer on their teammates, is cruel and goes against the sportsmanship they're trying to nurture.

College social dynamics are just stilted in general. And shy folks often get misinterpreted as snobby or arrogant in all walks of life. I grew up in a family where being proud of myself was strongly discouraged and I often fall into a pattern of feeling judgy about folks who do show their pride (usually well earned but not always).

Haha I love this. You should really work on your core strength and pancake stretch on the ground. A pancake stretch is when you sit in a straddle and lean forward as far as you can. Also make sure to LEAN once I learned I wasn’t leaning over enough they became so easy I hope this helps.
