Damn Shanghai looks like a very nice city ! I think I'm going to get the Wave with cloudwheel for my short city commutes and for the portability. The pavement has quite some bumps and cracks and I like get on and off side-walks depending on the situation so a short board with a kicktail and cloudwheels seem like a good compromise between comfort, manoeuvrability and portability. BTW I love your videos, helped inform me on how and what options to choose from for my first longboard. I had always wanted a boosted board, but I saw your video on the exway flex riot motor version(would love to see you dive deeper and compare the hub vs riot for specifically exway) and I decided to finally hop on getting one after many years of contemplation. I live in Canada so it snows and gets quite cold, so will be unusable for most of winter is why I hesitated so much mainly. But still very useful. With good maintenance what do you think lifespan of these can be? I'd think 10 years could be doable but with battery degradation over time and motor replacements if the motors fry I guess? Not sure though, never owned or even tried one before.
@DanielKwan4 жыл бұрын
Eventually the battery performance would reduce to the point where you’d need to replace it, like the battery in your phone or laptop. Wheels, bearings, bushings and some other skate parts may need replacement from time to time.
@millpreetk14064 жыл бұрын
@@DanielKwan Are they accessible if I disassemble the pack? seems more reasonable than with phone batteries to disassemble and just replace the cells as everything else is worth so much as well. I wonder approximately how many KM the battery last until it lowers below 70% max capacity depending on weight of rider. Would the reading for battery percentage/KM stay accurate if someone changed out the cells? As I'd think any 18650 cells would fit in a pack if they're accessible with disassembly). Or perhaps it's a thing where one would have to purchase an entire pre assembled pack again if it's still available for that model.

Nice to see range wasn't effected too much. What about comfort because that's what I think what really matters when putting those wheels on a shortboard. Is there a noticeable difference? Maybe you already said it in this video....admittedly I just skipped to the TLDW 😅
@DanielKwan4 жыл бұрын
I’ve been riding with this setup so long I forgot to mention it... Yes there’s a noticeable difference in comfort for my use cases. Shorter and stiffer boards are inherently less comfortable so these wheels have made riding on sidewalk tiles much better.
@spyplane84 жыл бұрын
DKwan I sent you a message via email on your website. I had a question / idea and wondered if you could test it. On direct drive motors is it possible for the extra protective metal sleeve to swapped with a thin PU wheel? I know the motor diameter is the same as many hub motors without the groves. This would not only protect the motor better but it would also allow the motor to still provide forward push or drive to maintain momentum rather than causing friction and scratching the sleeve badly. It seemed like the perfect solution to eliminate the biggest negative to Direct Drive (Besides not being able to adjust gear ratios when running larger wheels) In my opinion this would be a huge selling point and add an extra "feature" :) If anything on the 2nd gen Direct Drive motors the manufactures could start integrating this protection.

Daniel Kwan. If your riding towards a mini ramp, sidewalk ramp or a small speed bump, should you put your weight in front or just bend your knees? I'm kinda scared to try. Exway flex owner here :) .

Bend your knees. Doing a little hop to deweight yourself may help too. If scared to try, I suggest putting on pads and practice falling forward on them a couple times just so you know what to expect if you do fall.

The teacher that ran our team always advocated to ban usage of road bike wheels citing student safety. But generally I thought bigger wheels are more efficient on at least bikes for some reason?
