@pespsisipper I've hosted my own private server a few times, searching Minecraft logs is absolute pain as the game compresses each log daily, so to search logs you must decompress each day's log file, open them all up individually, and Ctrl+F each one for the offending word until you eventually get there. Some plugins might make this easier but that's my experience with vanilla and Fabric servers.

It's a never ending battle all on it's own... but as you said, on top of that, there's the painful learning process, the money issues that no one ever seems to understand, and so much more. The fact that this video is a deep look into the history of your server is glorious, humurous, and fascinating. All at the same time. And the fact that you adopted the technique of integrating your server into videos in a way that is relevant is nothing short of genius. This video is excellent not just in detailing the history of your server, not just in detailing the experience of running a server, not just in detailing the evolution of yourself... When i started my server (just a vanilla+ survival fabric server, no paper or plugins) I got pretty fuckin lucky. I happened to post on reddit that i was making a server, at the same time that a small streamer was looking for a server. He brought his entire viewer base (like 100 people on average) to view the server when we launched it, and with all the other people the reddit managed to pick up, we had like 80 people that first day. The hardest part as server owner, was figuring out how to prevent lag, without limiting what people could do. 5 years later, we're still a 10ish player survival server, with tons of massive projects being worked on, and it's been the most fun experience of my life, seeing a bunch of random people come together to make something special. we've got a few small streamer's, like 10-20 viewer's, who stream, then host other people, and in the 20-30 viewer streamer group, our server has gotten kinda famous, cuz of all the stupid projects we do lol. It's truly been a life changing experience.

As someone who has run a small server for my friends, i agree, HEAVILY in the fact that it costs so much to keep running. Where i am 1 kilowatt-hour is between 12-68 cents, and i had the server running basically 24/7 for a total time of about 5-8~ months straight. I did the math recently and the electricity bill for running it that long was somewhere between $262.98 ~ $420.768 (12c per hour) And $1,490.22 ~ $2,384.352 (68c per hour). Average: $1,139.58 So i understand how annoying it is when people just complain about it... Doesn't help that they wanted to run a VERY unstable modpack that crashed the server every few hours (and i couldn't find an auto-crash-relauncher-mod that would've restarted the server when that happened, so i was usually pinged by them at like 3am or when i was away from the computer to ask me to restart the server.) - After 2 months of that i got quite fed up with feeling like a tool that they were using me as. I was alright with it before because i was playing it with them and hanging out a lot, but i got busy, and couldn't really play with all of them at the same time due to ram constraints (If there were a few people on the server my computer would run out of ram - probably from a lot of the world being loaded at that point - and i couldn't play at the same time, so overall i felt really lonely) Sorry for this wall of textual complaint, but I needed to get the frustration out there. I feel you. Also had to reset the world a couple times, which made a few of them mad at me. It sucks dude.

Bro the pain with running a Minecraft server is actually so real. I run a server for my friends and just the general community here. It consists of a pvp enabled lobby plus a creative and survival world. With crossplay between bedrock, java, and eagler. (Check out this guys last vid if you don't know what that is) The amount of time, effort, and money you have to put into a server even that small is insane. So yea I for one completely support that pay to win style you have. You keep it contained to just one mode and don't include the stupid gambling aspect some p2w servers have.

This is perhaps your greatest video by far. It's honestly a great summary of every challenge faced in growing the server (indirect advertising was the ultimate strat), as well as previous exploit videos. Importantly, you didn't hold back on also discussing the controversies and your validations for them, you made many tough calls but ultimately they have led to successful growth. You were able to reflect on previous views of P2W and admit to change, convincing me and others as well. I can tell you've matured as both server owner and content creator in the past few years, a very unique and fortunate position to be in, you've earned it, and can't wait to see where the server goes from here!

Congrats on running a successful Minecraft server! I think KZbinrs and streamers playing on or otherwise advertising your server is the only way to really grow a server anymore. I own a family-friendly Minecraft server and we've been in operation for over 12 years now. We have dealt with many of the same issues you showcased, and did many of the same things you tried in this video, to varying degrees of success. We updated our Hunger Games plugin to add new features like new kits, wandering trader shops, new community maps, etc. but it still almost always has zero players. We added a Factions server for a while. We've tried anniversary servers and other mini-game server experiments like Build Battle and Hide and Seek. We've done map resets to bring player counts back up. We used to consistently have over 100 players online, but that has slowly dwindled over the years to now having about 5-30 players online consistently most days, even though we have over 20,000 players registered. Fortunately we get enough rank purchases to keep our server online, but it's not enough to hire developers or server admins to grow the server in any meaningful way. We are entirely run by volunteers. I would love to get our server back to the days of consistently having over 100 players online at the same time, but it's incredibly difficult while also having a full time job and a family to take care of.

I really understand your perspective and experience with managing a server. I myself also run a server, although limited on time due to school. The server is now 3 years and a month old. Through that time, I've had to figure out a lot of the similar things that you had to as well. Now in the current day, my server "WawaNet" is currently in down time due to the season three massive revamp and update. Having SMP modes with custom coded RPG gameplay (which is optional) with custom coded game modes and pvp modes. I was able to do this because I know a bit on coding and altering plugins to my liking. However, with being in 12 grade now and a heavier load of work coming in, I have basically lost time to do anything for the server. Thus it being still down and a lot of slow progress. One of the things you said in the video was about how you had the privilege of just advertising your server on your youtube channal free of charge. I myself didn't have that, and the server when it was even on, struggled to even get a singular player to play which was the main reason that motivated me to change the server completely. Sorry, went on a ramble here, anyways, I agree with most of your points and especially with the financial problem, I hope you well! Well there's nothing evil about making money from your hardwork. I mean as long as it's not over priced. Good 1hr ad man.

I see that but like he just made a video on him destroying someone else’s server because of pay to win while he had a p2w server himself. I don’t support gambling but crashing peoples servers is insane. He says that his actions are fine because the EULA kinda bans pay to win yet here he is running one. Running a pay to win server is 1 thing, but then crashing others? Kinda hypocritical right?
@DefenDefault43 ай бұрын
@@ahsanahmedbhaila Hmm I didn't watch really the P2W part of the video tho, so I'm not sure if he did actuallt add pay2win or just paying for cosmetics and some upgrades that are not too much. But he is I guess kinda hypocritcal there.

I have been a small Danish server owner for years, owning servers in my country's landscape, its been up and down and i have been through a lot of what you have but on a smaller scale reflecting the player pool here. This video yes, its an ad for your extremely good server i'd be frank, but its also something i feel most players need to watch, player demand, demand and demand they don't get how much work people like you and i put in to make their favorite server a reality, hats off to you for doing this and i hope to see more behind the scenes owner content in the future!

despite never playing on the server (nowadays i play exclusively on a server called Monumenta and have basicly quit minecraft outside of that), i have had the OG Network in my server list for years. anytime id try to log in to Monumenta i'd see the OG Network player count in the server list have risen or fallen, and its nice to hear the full story about it.

this is not my main acc but I have ran a server in past with a total player base of 4K Players with around 30 Daily players ITS REALLY HARD to Maintain the server espically financially I had to close the server because my yt wasn't monitized the donators stopped donating slowly and then Last 2 seasons went in loss and I had to close it and leave yt Now I am planning to do a come back... I have learnt alot and maybe this time I can make something successfull.

30 Different alt's to evade banning, doesn't that mean he has purchased the game 30 times (because don't you need to buy another account (an alt) to do this? - If so then that is quite funny that he has spent $800-900 on the game....
@tjb31715 ай бұрын
Yeah probably. Or be bought them for 5 cents each of Minecraft’s black market for stolen accounts

To the point towards the end there, remember that whatever profession you're in, you're usually judged by those who know less than you.

Man thats crazy at 27:55 how things began to click for you, it made me realize that I should be happy with what I am doing. You guys were happy just having 52 players Online; While I'm Unhappy with my Quality and having 30 players.

I NEVER usually watch 1 hour videos but I really enjoyed watching this. You definitely kept me interested. Brings back so many memories of playing gamemodes such as The Bridges and SG on Mineplex. Ive also seen the server grow as you've continued to post about it since you started it. My life is quite busy nowadays however and I have also moved onto other things. I don't play much Minecraft these days (I have an event every month or so I'm involved with old uni friends) but Monster Hunter and other games has captured my attention now (still want to do all Advancements some time though.) Also you said you wouldn't be making a longer video than 30 minutes on the 30 minute one. So I'm now prepared for 2 hr expose on your whole YT journey from start to now.

I have always been a strong anti p2w person, kinda one of the reason why i started watching you. However with the information that you provided over the financing of the server and how hard it had been to make enough money, i belive that you did everythig right. And because of all the drama and struggles you have gone through, i can day that you are a champ. And that people will look up to you as someone who never gives up and wants to grow a great community.

Honestly I'm going to join for the role playing pve mode. Haven't hopped on Minecraft in probably a year, and when I do it's just me and my siblings, but I'll put some time on this one it think. Of course I always respected how you were running this server and like your videos quite a bit. You guys are doing great work. Best of luck

Why don’t you hire minecrafter? That would be a 200 IQ play. He finds exploits and you patch them.

I love long videos about the stories that happen on multiple minecraft servers, they are always so unique! btw have you thought about making a smp that restarts every month or week, that idea works well in games like Rust. I know next to nothing about hosting servers but i think it would be a fun idea and it would make players hype for every wipe aswell as making it more easy to starters since they don't have to travel far just to get iron, deff playing that if that's added :)

Hes going to make a video about how many people joined off of this video alone and then another one for that one😂😂😂

I rarely comment somewhere but I have to give credit to people like you who give insight and their view over these big topics. We all have our big dreams of creating content and games, having our comunities, bringing something into the world but there's so many little things we cannot think of ahead without prior knowledge. And these stories like yours inspire many and also point out roadblocks that we can dodge in advance. Afterall this is what we should strive for, making ecosystem where we help eachother. We're not here to battle for the top, we reach the top all together.
