This is my first video and first attempt editing so I massively apologise for the audio changes with my voiceovers, I am definitely learning but also very open to advice!

Thank you for sharing! Cats will 'dig' their water because they are trying to create movement in the still water. Out in the wild they are used to drinking from flowing bodies of water. I would recommend a cat water fountain to alleviate their stress around still water.

Astrid is so adorable!! I have a 1.5 year old sphynx named Peach. Btw just a health tip that I didn’t know, sphynx cats are actually extremely intolerant to fish. My mother has Peach’s brother (Harry) and was feeding him cat rated tuna and salmon. He ended up in the hospital on IV because he couldn’t stop throwing up/diarrhea etc. The first indication was a very red splotchy rash all over his skin and a high fever. Anyways Harry is alive and well, but just want to spread awareness that sphynx cats cannot have any type of seafood including seafood in treats. Have a lovely day! :)

missJROCK113 you’re supposed to feed the baby Raw Fish ! Fresh fish from the market like Publix and cook it a little over the stove and feed it to them or raw... and caviar is extremely good for them!! They are Expensive!

What a beautiful black sphynx . She even has little half whiskers . Very lucky to have a cat that georgeous. I'm glad you take suck good care of her. Everything in this video is correct... High maintenance cat, the licking is constant unless you stop them, and very fun and loving, not your typical cat. GREAT VIDEO!!

I'm researching now to see if I actually want a sphynx, and I love honest videos that focus on all the possible negatives. My current cat is a Bengal, and thanks to people sharing horror stories about them being destructive, both skittish and confident, independent, and noisy... I've not had any nasty surprises with my boy. I fact I find myself warning people he's far better behaved than many Bengals and I'm kinda disappointed he isn't a little more energetic! So far, I think a sphynx will be fantastic. The neediness, the fact they have to be indoors, even the need for bathing and clothing all suit me quite well. I also live in a warmer area that'll suit them, and when it's cold we have a wonderful fireplace that warms the whole house

V accurate assessment re: high maintenance. I dont regret 4 a minute getting my baby just pls know what ur getting into 4 the cats sake. Ear, nail maintenance is essential bc they r prone to infections & worst case hearing loss/surgery. Tip: use Exfoliating gloves to really help keep skin clean & conditioned specific to hairless cats.

Joejoejoe I would say every regular cat. I own two cats (not pedigree, normal cats🐱) and they are extremely independent. The only effort is to give them food/water and keep the litter clean. They clean themselves, are free to go outside, play with other cats and dogs and do whatever they want 🤣 I also own two dogs, and they are way more high maintenance than cats (we have to clean them, walk them out, they need way more attention because they want to play with us and want you always to be around etc). I guess having a Sphynx is more or less like having a dog, but with some extra special needs :)

I got my sphynx cat 6 months ago she’s the same colour as yours she’s the most loving and cutest cat we’ve ever had. She is just like a dog to be honest if you throw a toy she’ll bite it and bring it back to you like a dog so cute! Also always be careful before sitting down as they may be sleeping under your covers as they like to seek warmth or you could buy them a shirt to keep them warm on a winters day so cute

Great video, thank you, I got some tips from you for my two :-) absolutely amazing to have, a lot of work, I've seen a lot who have underestimated that and not done their research before and the cat has gone back to the breeder really sick, one of mine is a rescue. So I agree with you on doing the research and recommend having two unless there's other animals around. Your Asterix is gorgeous btw! ;-)

A litter Robot is a great investment for my bambino kitten. He loves it and it stays clean. I keep his skin shiny and soft by giving him a wipe down of witch Hazel wash and then a good rinse after his baby shampoo bath and gentle scrub with a washcloth. He enjoys bathtime. I also use a cat ear wash and hold his ear tight and put in a few drops and rub his ears and then wipe the outer ear with q-tips. Every Tuesday and Friday this is our ritual. I love bath days and he does too

I feel like my biggest takeaway from this vid (that I didn't get from others) is the raw food suggestion. That sounds like a game changer. Better nutrition and less poo? I'll definitely be looking into well rounded raw options for cats in the U.S.. Also, thank you for the rest of your honest information. Really helpful! Can you comment on how well sphynx's (or yours) can travel in vehicles? I'm thinking bringing them along on adventures/vacations (with the proper garments and enrichment to keep them comfortable and happy, of course) may be a great way to keep them close, included, and happy?

The allergies are not caused by the hair. It is small particles on the skin called dander. Sphinx are meant to have a lot of dander as they have no hair to mitigate it. There are some breeds that are supposed to be hypoallergenic but your mom should be around one of them before buying a pet. Ownership should be forever!

Love the info on this video, very helpful. What you’re feeding is very good compared to kibble, but have you considered using a totally prey model raw diet? It works out really cheap when you do it yourself in comparison to even cheap kibble, and is the healthiest thing to feed your cat. The ratio is usually roughly 80% muscle meat, 10% edible bone and 10% organ meat (with 5% of that being liver). Some people add a few sardines and raw eggs to this mix too, and others replace the bone with crushed egg shell although that’s supposedly not as good as raw bone. This can be achieved using shop bought meats and ground in a meat grinder or prepared in other ways, and can even progress to providing whole prey foods which are naturally balanced. There’s lots of info around about PMR (prey model raw) diets and some great Facebook groups. Definitely will be something I’m going for when I get my sphynx next year as I’ve been trying to think of a high quality diet I can feed that won’t break the bank!

Oh I'm in love with your sphinx she is beautiful and sounds like she's perfect, except for the stepping in poo part. I had 4 Boston terriers and lost 3 of them in the past 3 years. My wife and I along with our little boy whose definitely been depressed since losing his brother are thinking of getting a sphinx kitten, I see you have dogs and assume they get along but wanted to know your opinion on sphinxs and dogs and how they get along also are they pests with the dogs cause my boys getting old. We've had two sphynx cats for 8 years now, our cattery told us not to bathe our cats even though the internet is full of this advice, because the cat will have less trouble with the oils, cats that are bathed produce a lot more oil. We've never had much trouble! The cats sleep with their blankets that get washed once a week or so. The only con is when they are in the garden enjoying the sun, they produce a bit more oil, and start rolling in the sand and go to us to rub it off, I think it could be to reduce the oil, and for the affection of course :). Our cats never get sunburn by the way, they go to the shade/inside on time.

Hi ! Do you ever try actual raw food with your pets, ie chicken hearts, liver, hare meat all minced up with some omega 3 oil by yourself? There is a channel called Loulou and friends where a Dutch lady owns some absolutely adorable Dacshunds amongst other pets. She feeds them actual raw food which she cuts up her self. She’ll sometimes add some omega3 oil, a raw egg etc. The dogs are an absolute picture of health and their coats are incredibly shiny. Have a look and see if you might find any tips to adapt for your lovely Sphinx.

The bald cats of that time period actually died off as a breed. Current day sphynx cat breed was created in the late 1900s

I’m cat sitting a Sphinx and she has what I believe are eat wax stuck to her neck where the collar goes. I’m assuming it’s a combo of ear wax, other oils and dirt. Regardless the spots won’t wipe off. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have had my nekked bebe for 3+ years- I'm a PICU nurse, and work 12h shifts, so am away from home for 13-14h on work days. My boy is doing well, but he does have a furry brother to keep him company!

I'm a very introverted person with mostly long distance friends. I'm considering getting a Sphynx cat. I'm also homeschooled so I'm home a lot. I'm in High School so I'd have to ask my parents first, but I really hope that they approve. Maybe I'll finally have a closer friend 😂
