Please, please, please do not include breeders among the guests you bring on. There is no reason for anyone to breed animals for profit until the last homeless animal has a home. ADOPT DONT SHOP.
@m0ri4615 ай бұрын
@@dao8805 There is nothing wrong with reputable, sustainable breeders who treat their animals with respect and put effort into keeping their gene pools healthy. Not everybody is equipped to handle a rescue. You also don't always know what you are getting into with a rescue, you don't know if they have poor genes and will be sickly, this can lead to very expensive vet bills you may not be able to handle. You also have no idea what behavioral issues they may have due to trauma, bad breeding, etc. that you may not be equipped to handle. Let's not shame people for their decisions because you have no idea what their situation is. There will ALWAYS be homeless animals because cats and dogs are overpopulated and always will be, whether people breed or don't breed. That's not anything anybody can help breeders or no breeders. Domesticated animals were bred for thousands of years for a reason, especially working dog breeds. They have specific jobs and not all of those jobs can be done by just any dog. Different breeds of dogs and cats contribute to the genetic diversity of the species' as a whole. If breeders didn't exist the beautiful variety of dogs and cats we see today would be gone. If you're this fervently worried about things like this, next time you say "Aww I love beagles! they're so cute!" maybe think a little deeper as to what you just said and reassess your opinions. How do you think beagles became a thing? Without breeders, they wouldn't have.

My sphinx always jumped into the shower with my husband for his bath every Sunday. After he hung out in the shower for a while, his nails were a lot easier to clean. Then after the bath, I would roll him up in a warm towel and just pull out one paw at a time. He was so happy to be cozy and warm, he would purr while I cleaned and clipped his nails and cleaned his ears. Trust me and try the cat towel burrito 🌯 🤣

how often do you gotta bathe and cleaning routine??? I LOVE doing it to my doggies but they dont need it that often. Also i find them SOOOOOOO freaking cute and affectionate!! Perhaps we are the perfect match 🥹💕
@crazysphynxcatlady33595 ай бұрын
@@CataBullR I know lots of people say weekly but I don’t recommend more than once or twice a month. The oils on their skin are there for a reason and too much bathing can cause skin problems. I suggest bathing their bodies in a bath then taking them out of the bath and cleaning their ears, nail beds and clipping their nails while you hold them in your lap while giving them treats and lots of praise. Trying to do all that at the bathing area is too stressful we can make it less stressful by breaking it up and doing the tasks separately. I have only two cats now and I only bathe mine once a month but it is true that some cats create more oils and may need a bath every two weeks.

@@crazysphynxcatlady3359random questions but you seem like you’d have the answer: 1. Do all of them likely have a genetic heart condition where they suddenly die? I was told this. 2. Do they pair well with a cat that has hair? I’d love one but have haired cats.
@crazysphynxcatlady33595 ай бұрын
@@alliecat1658 HCM is the heart condition and no not all Sphynx cats have it, yes they are more susceptible to it, reputable breeders test their cats for HCM but unfortunately that only means that at the time of testing they did not have it. Unfortunately that doesn’t mean they won’t develop it or that the kittens they produce won’t get it at some point. However this does not mean that every Sphynx will develop HCM, being more susceptible for a disease does not mean all Sphynx cats have the disease. Whoever told you this knows nothing about disease susceptibility or Sphynx cats. To my knowledge none of my cats or their kittens has ever developed HCM. Yes it can still happen, it can happen to my two remaining cat who are 8 and 6 years old but possibility does not equal inevitably. Even if one of my cats did develop HCM I would never regret owning them and I would get another one as soon as I could because honestly there’s nothing like the love of a Sphynx. And they love furry animals lol. They like to cuddle up in the fur for warmth. It just depends on the personalities of the two cats and taking the time to introduce them slowly, there’s many articles about the proper way to introduce cats.

As a sphynx owner (owned by a sphynx, lol) the best tip when bathing them is to have hot water, like lower regions of h*ll hot... lukewarm water makes my black nekkid girl flee. Hot water - she sits, plays and love it. And the black nail beds/ear gunk is not dirt, it's skin oil/wax. Most of the time I wipe them with a pet wipe, in between baths. As the owner of a rôtisserie chicken myself, I saw the exact same shenanigans mine puts me through in this video!! Mine is a calico girl I named Whippet! 😊 And yes! Sphynx cats don't have whiskers, since they don't have fur! Or what they do have is so short that it doesn't matter. Whippet has tiny stubs on her nose but otherwise, no proper long whiskers. So no whisker fatigue! But they do tend to bump their nose into things as a result. Whippet has learned to be careful for things like water (she would inhale just a bit as a baby and sneeze often), but she does still boop a lot of things (including my own nose when I come close!). I do the exact same care routine you did, but in reverse! I do bath first, wipe her fave with a pet wipe, ears, and then clip her nails. She is just as squirmy and wriggly as Mochi! They truly know how to wriggle out of things!! And it's true that they get dirty, those little guys. Whippet gets SO MUCH dirt and sebum under her armpits. Sphynx cats are truly a marvel, if you're conscious of the extra care they need. I have 3 cats, and Whippet is the most unhinged cat I've ever owned. Never a boring day with her!

It's probably not good for the grooming setup or the camera, but in my experience it's easier to trim nails if you have a cat on your lap. 😊 Hug them with their back to your belly and do one foot at a time. They can't back away, it doesn't twist their paws into a weird position, and you can distract them with head smooches or scritches or just generally have a better hold on them if they get annoyed.

Also, that is not necessarily dirt on them their body oil stays on their skin, their nails, their chins, and their ears, because there is no fur to absorb it and take it away from the body. it is the same amount of oil that regular cat would get and also contains shed dead red blood cells which are excreted through the skin and caused the brown color which is often called rust The brownish color you see on their ears and their feet is very much from this oil and the rust and maybe some dirt sticking to it, but it is natural and normal. You’re right in the fact that Cats even when bathe at the same time have different amounts of dirt it has more to do with genetics and what they’re being fed that is excreted as waste through not just their poop but also body oil. 6:23

Something I have learned from human ear cleaning videos is that a good part of ear wax is actually shedding skin, so Mochi having such dark wax is probably at least some part having dark grey skin.

You could probably use a sanitized high walled “litter box” for bathing larger cats. Just a thought.

These cats might be used to being bathed, but they don’t know you and they don’t trust you. That is why they are trying to step out of the small tub. Thank you for putting them in a small tub of water and not just spraying them with the hose. 6:01

If you would sit on a flat surface and put them in between your legs, it will be so much easier to clip the nails. I had my sweet Mollie kitty for 23 years and clipped her nails regularly and that was the way I did it. She didn’t love it but she tolerated it and didn’t move around.

Ahhh towels work. They are the only way I can trim my cat’s nails. The gloves look like they are very nice for the skin of the four footed ones.

That high maintenance is a reason I'm not getting a Sphynx - that and they are MUCH more active and I just cannot with that. I need a couch potato cat lol But my mother's cat Spade had the ear trouble and I learned how to clean cat ears. SO. MANY. Q-TIPS. Spade was a long haired - Norwegian Forest Cat, I think - but his ears were just gunky all the time. But so long as I cuddled him in my lap while cleaning, he tolerated it. He wasn't thrilled - but he didn't maul me.

Showing the world, the brown wax inside of a cat ear is a good thing. Also, the hoodie is working for squid however it obviously terrified Mochi.

At the very beginning with Mochi, I love the optimism of just standing at the table and loudly saying, "Come here!".

Vanessa: As the daughter of a Persian cat breeder, I have a tip for you when struggling to clip a cat's nails. If you tuck the backside of the cat under your arm/into your armpit while they're in your lap and then lean over them, you've got a good and secured cat and can much more easily do their nails without them thrashing around/trying to escape. It was painful watching what was happening with Mochi, where it looked like she was going to get a leg dislocated with her escape attempts.

We have a rescue Bambino & a rescue Sphynx who did not come to us well bath trained. Both have done best in nice warm baths that are at least chest (bum hole) high with a wet washcloth on their back. I also make sure to have a pitcher of clean hot water set aside for rinsing. It usually cools down by the time we need to use it. And they don’t get frightened by the sprayer. We scrub them down with scrubby mits and sponges for the face & private bits. Leaving those for last helps soak off some bum crusties & loosens toe gunk. I have a little plastic cup and I keep the wash cloth wet & warm by pouring water over it. They may fight it a bit at first, but eventually they relax and sit down and just deal with it. Mine are both girls who have peach fuzz. My Sphynx is actually very dry and only needs a bath monthly. The Bambino twice a month. Ears are weekly.

My sister used to work for a vet who also bred and showed Persians and Cornish Rex. I also worked for him assisting my sister with cleaning the rooms, cages as well as blow drying out the Persians after she bathed. On show bathing days he would sometimes take as many as ten cats so you can imagine how exhausted we would be. The job was tiring but fun because we almost always had kittens running around and playing under our feet. For people who think grooming is easy work, think again! Your hands, arms and back are aching terribly after wrestling your precious baby. For your podcast you might want to interview people who show. Different breeds, as you well know, require very different techniques. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoy finding and watching your videos. I love how you are constantly talking to the pets as you work on them! Great channel!!♥️♥️
