I truly appreciate your wonderful feedback. I'll always continue to include my normal style of talking to the camera while filming, but sometimes I like to switch it up to capture to try to capture a mood. What excites me most about what I am creating here, is the opportunity to share all of these experiences with the world; finding ways to get folks to care about some of the things that I care about 💙 Thanks so much for watching!

We live right nearby where you started shelling (3:40), in Cape Elizabeth. We love going to the beach all year for shells and the open, salt air. Thank you for your inspiring journeys, they are a wonderful way to relax, and enjoy and be mindful of the beauty around us. You just recently popped up in my feed and I’m very happy about it.

I am a swfl resident that has the pleasure of shelling Sanibel Island and surrounding areas. Never would I have thought to go to a place such as Main. What can I say? I’m extremely partial to my tropical and subtropical shell species. However, seeing the beauty and the mystique of the area you chose to film, definitely makes me feel some wanderlust for new places. Maybe my shelling addiction will carry me to places such as this in the future. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for such a lovely episode. As an artist, the very unique palette, textures created by the salt and calcification and the rugged quality of Maine shells is endlessly inspiring. The Iceland scallop fossil is astonishing. I actually prefer the limited spoken word in your videos, as it creates for me, a sense of calm and wonder, as if one is there in person.

It is nice to do the extra step with the acid for that extra removal of salt, etc. Shells are so beautiful. In my country the mussle shells are black. I wouldnt collect them. I live in southern Maine. I really hope you get to travel here someday. From the Down east area with bat harbor, Acadia National Park, Wiscasset and Boothbay to old orchard beach and beyond there is something very peaceful here. I have serious autoimmune and everything about the treatment and recovery periods is chaotic, so many doctors. The beach is peace. It's possible even on a crowded day to stand with your feet in the water and feel small, alone, and something greater than yourself all at once. I hope you visit us soon and see what I mean! Acadia just takes your breath away!

Truely enjoyed that beach❣️! So much to look thru, 👀. Love when you stop to do a screen shot. Gives me time to hunt to. And that red sand! I would have taken an oz of that to display on a shelf in a pretty little vial/bottle. I have sand from the phillipines that a coworker brought back for me many yrs ago. Still have it! That little rippling water was awesome on that puddle/inlet?, 👀❤️. Perfect timing. Dumb question, what is done with the muriatic acid afterwards? Is it reusable?

How do you tell the difference between a regular shell and a fossil shell??
@solaceinshelling6552
@solaceinshelling6552 3 ай бұрын
This is a great question, but the answer is a little nuanced, lol! Sometimes, it's actually quite difficult to tell the difference, especially with younger fossils. In general, one of the best ways to tell is by color: Living seashells often have colorful patterns, but fossilized seashells usually lack these patterns, and are more neutral colored. This method isn't fool proof though because some shells naturally lack color and patterns. Another way to identify is to understand the geology of the local region you are looking for fossils in. For example... in Maine, shell fossils can be found in layers of ancient marine sediment that were created by the movements of glaciers during last Ice Age - these sediment layers in Maine are known as the Presumpscot Formation, and the shell fossils that come from these deposits are approximately 11 - 14 thousand years old. The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry has listed a few of the species of shells that can be found in these marine sediments, so if ever you find one of these shell specimens in Maine, it is most likely a fossil. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for the beautiful video. I usually clean my sand dollars in hydrogen peroxide, they don't seem to get as brittle. Sometimes just leave in the sun until they are completely white. I use bleach on my shells, sometimes it leaves a chalky appearance especially on fighting conchs. Any suggestions anyone? Agreed that shells look great when they are wet!
