I definelitIy agree with him saying that everybody is influenced by things that already exist but for me, originality is not defined by having original sources or being super creative, but rather what you do with all those influences. I think you can say that everyone is original in their own way, because what has been made is something which has never existed like that ever before, the process was different to everything else and its whole history will be different than anything else. That is why I don't agree with him saying "there's no such thing as originality".

Now I'm not going to argue about this at all but just want to share my perspective on it. I think that every time a artist creates something it is origional . Why?, Well no two people see the world in the same way or think in the same way, so no two people will make the same thing. Plus people goes through so many different situations, trials, likes, dislikes and hobbies and any artist will (even if it's subconsciously) bring those things into their craft. So no matter if two people are making similar things there will be differences between them even if they might seem small. Well anyway that's just how I see it XD.

"There's no such thing as originality." ... Pretty much. We live in a postmodern world; all art is and will be a reaction to the previous ideals of the Enlightenment. Everything stems from/utilises ideas that have already been thought and in that sense, nothing can be original. It'll be interesting to see whether or not it's possible for society to undergo another version of the Enlightenment and if that means originality will once again be palpable. It seems unlikely.
@sumeya1923

Inventions can be original but then again somebody could have thought about it before you so it’s technically not anymore but still kinda is. Crazy but it’s fine . When I think of originality i think of the actual creation and not the original thought so even though someone may have thought about it ...you still created it first so it’s still original..somewhat. Also I want to say you seem intelligent lmao. Have a good day x

about nothing ever being original, i agree that every thought and feeling is inspired by something else. however, originality comes from how you view the world. for example, one person could associate vanilla soda with a fun summer day. Another person could associate it with cold fall weather and sweaters. one person could perceive a loved one in a more special and magical light because of their love for them. originality is based off of what your eyes take in, how your heart internalizes little moments, and how you feel for others, and how you feel for life itself.

The thing is even if you say that vanilla soda reminds you of death and the end of the world, you’ll find someone or even a group of people who feel the same way you do and probably thought they were “the only one”

Dang, man, I felt so many similarities hearing your story as you did your intro to your art series. I'm taking a gap year to work and earn money before college next year but almost all of my friends are starting college, including my gf. So it really sucks not going to college but work has been really good and art has been my hobby and enjoyment alongside gaming here at home, but I totally get the whole inspiration and creativity thing. I go and down up with both of those day in and day out.

we all take art at my private school and i don't really feel like I'm learning anything. In school but especially now in online, my teacher expects us and MAINLY ME (because I'm the best in the class-in a non-bragging way-i'm just more experienced,) to pull ideas out of my ass all the time and In school we weren't allowed to use inspiration or even look up ideas or anything and I think the originality thing is SO SO true and it's hard to work without any sort of references at all and I can't wait to take real art classes instead of "pull ideas out of your ass" classes lmao

I agree that there’s no such thing as originality in art but I just feel that art is not what it seems but what we see! Cause the aim of art is not to represent the outward appearance of things but their inward significance as Aristotle said And the inward significance might be unique in the way WE perceive it so it might not be completely original but there is of course a personal unique touch to the artwork. What do you think Mattew
@MatthewSorgie
@MatthewSorgie 4 жыл бұрын
I completely agree!! I loved reading your thoughts. Our personal take on a theme/topic is what makes art exciting, fresh, and always evolving. It's your voice that matters and what people care about. I think my statements from the video come from a place of wanting to reassure artists that the theme/topic they focus on does not have to be something completely different. No one expects you to invent a never before seen art style or illustrate an unheard of topic. A great video that explains this is a Disney documentary titled "4 Artists Paint One Tree". It is stunning how each artist takes a unique approach to the same subject. By looking at each finished painting, you would think they were all looking at a different tree, or even drawing from their imagination. While their subject matter or "topic" were the same, they all had extremely different outcomes by digging deep and choosing different elements to focus on in order to capture the tree that they saw. Maybe I'm rambling at this point but yes! i completely agree, and hope you can find somewhere to watch that video!

@TrashiArt 4 жыл бұрын
Matthew Sorgie I love the way you look at the concept of art and the way we perceive it. I actually have watched the documentary and I must say it is just so astonishing!And I really feel that art isn’t a way to portray but to evoke and yeah so I feel even though originality is something that isn’t very objective but individuality is. And art can be full of deep significance or just a little fun but in the end it’s just unique to you .What do you think?

Bro... I relate to having random, GOOD, ideas in the middle of the night... Like BAM there is loads of random ideas to make art, but with me I would either get up and do it or just think whether or not i should get up and sketch it down, mainly because I don't want to die of exhaustion in the morning at school... ALSO I agree with a lot of things he said, very true, everything just depends on your perspective!
