Love this video so much!!What a special moma you have. Loved listening to her stories, made me think of my own moma who I lost to cancer 5 years ago now. What a memory you just made with her, to have all this history recorded so you’ll be able to rewatch one day when she’s no longer with you, just priceless!!💜

How I miss the front porch! Sitting on the porch swing as it rained; listening to the birds sing; late at night I used to hear a fox bark or a screech owl ... people don't know what they're missing as so many memories were made on the front porch! Thanks, Mike and thank your wonderful Mom for making this video!

Mike seafoam sounds like what we here in Minnesota call Divinity. I remember my grandmother making it and adding nuts. You drop it into spoonfulls on wax paper and it's really important to watch the humidity outside. I am retired now but had a great grandmother when I was 20. I would ask her about the depression. She was in her 20's then and said you could buy the most beautiful dresses for .25. All the family was farmers so we had food then and most milked cows for money. All the women would sell eggs and summer vegetables. Alot of canning here.

Loved hearing your Mom talk. My husband born In 1935 May. He died this past April 17.2022 I can relate to a lot she mentioned. My Maw maw had a inside bathroom put in when Pawpaw past away 1973 and she had put in to a hot water heater to have hot water.

When I was young My maw-maw and paw-paw had no bathroom. They had a what they called a crib( small shed) It was used for an outhouse. The other larger shed was used for storage and a wringer type washing machine. It also had an oblong aluminum horse trough used to take a bath. I remember maw maw heating up pots after pots of hot water in the trough so that i could take a bath in it. Like wild wild west 😁

Mike, my Grandad and Grandma Dickerson was the first to have a tv and would turn it around to the window where everyone from all around would come sit outside and watch tv. And my Grandma Dickerson made quilts and I loved watching her making those quilts. My Mom made dresses for me when I was little. My Grandad Dickerson passed away when I was 5. My Daddy passed away December 22,1987 after suffering 3 yrs of colon cancer and it spread to his lungs and brain. I keep missing him more and more each year. Thank you for having your Mom share her memories. I would have loved to have known my great Grandad Dickerson. Really enjoyed your video and hello Karen!

I have dugger bloodlines from butler community up above Watauga lake. They had 22 children! My mom Margaret ( jones) Denton was born in 1942. She grew up in the fairview community and went to high school at sulphur springs. Her dad Joseph Lester Jones was born in 1916. He kept the burial plot books for the fairview community cemetery. So grandpa knew nany if the families living in that area of Washington county. He worked at ET & WNC trucking company located by cardinal Park and the Johnson city civic center. My grandma Mary Blanche (Loudy) Jones worked at mccroys (spelling?) in the johnson city mall. She ran the pet and toy department. I remember her working there from the 1970's through mid 1980's. She was the sweet little white haired lady who wore glasses. My mom also made sea foam candy and good peanut butter pin wheels. I also loved it when she made the oatmeal/corn flake candy with chocolate in them.

I loved this. The seafoam candy sounds like divinity. I make it but only when the weather is right. It is really good. I love hearing about the way things used to be. I know times were hard for so many back then, but I would love to turn back the hands of time. Times are very hard for alot of people now. I would love to hear more from your mother. I was a child when my grand parents passed away and really did not get to know them. I can remember my grandmother had no heat or even central air in their house. That was the COLDEST house. They had wood stoves and they cooked on a wood stove. The food was so good back then because the food was home grown, canned, and no chemicals. They had their own chickens. Gee, times sure have changed. Thank you to your mom for sharing her life, and thank you for your video. I enjoy them so much.

Hi mike and Karen. My wife and I enjoy your videos the next time you would like to take a leisure and relaxing trip you may want to drive up to dillsboro then take rts28/64 to highlands . When you get to highlands you can park your car behind bridal veil waterfalls and take a picture of it. Karen will have to do the filming and talking so mike can keep both hands on the steering wheel and both eyes on the road. Along the way there are several places where you can see people swimming and diving in that river. My wife and I did this around 25 years ago and we enjoyed it. There are several places to eat and to stay in highlands if you want. Robert and Janet of dagsboro del
