What it’s REALLY like to play Augusta (The Masters Special)

We have a tax rule here in the US called the Augusta rule. It was put in to our tax code to allow the owners of those huge houses around Augusta to rent out their homes for 14 days without having to report and pay tax on the income. The rule applies to any house but was called the Augusta rule as it came out of the Masters Tournament.

Great pod as always, quick correction on what you can take into Augusta on the Practice days, you CAN NOT take in your phones onto the grounds at any time! Q was there yesterday, they tell you multiple times before you arrive! we took a couple of old school film cameras! With that it's the most incredible experience! A couple of random points: Howard Johnson’s used to be one of the most popular hotel chains in the US, ubiquitous on the interstate highways from the 1950s and into the 1980s. Stayed in many of them and dined in their restaurants as a kid on family vacations. The brand is now owned by Wyndham Hotels, but it is NOT at all what it used to be. Pretty much a “no-tell-motel” in name only. And pimiento is the fruit of a red pepper plant. To make pimiento cheese, grate some cheddar, dice the pimiento, add a little mayonnaise, mix it up and spread it onto the bread. Plain white bread, only! A Southern US staple.

Very few, if any, TV commercial breaks during the Masters coverage. It makes for a much more enjoyable viewing experience, for me. It's a tradition as it is the first major, and signals the launch of spring, and the beginning of the golf season for many of us living up north.

There was an old guy that lived in my town who had been to every masters for the last 56 years … he passed a few years ago and the local newspaper did an article about him .. a friend said his home was nothing but Masters gear .. can’t imagine what he saw over the years

Rick you can play the Par 3 course if you are playing with a member. Usually you play the main course and then have lunch. After lunch you play the Par 3 course. You just need to ask the member that is hosting you.

Ray’s creek !!!! Glad you finally got it. The reason why lefty’s do better at 12 and some of the other holes is because a lefty’s dispersion is 90 degrees to that of a righty and a lefy’s goes with the long side of the green; so a lefty is much less likely to put it in the water. Funny story about the toilet guy. Chairman Ridley would not be amused, however.

Guy, I don't know if they ship to the UK or not, but Augusta does a "Taste of the Masters" food kit that comes with Pimento cheese sandwiches, bbq, chips, the special masters cups, Augusta branded napkins and plates, lemonade, etc. You have to provide your own bread. Their website says they have international shipping available but they're sold out for this year so I can't see where they ship to.

As a father with young kids and one of them has a disability, It'd be extremely difficult to not have my phone on me all day to be able to communicate with them and make sure things are OK. I'm sure I'd make due but they need a cell phone tent or something. I've been trying to get a ticket for years with no luck but when the time comes, hopefully they've updated how they do things in this regard.

No phone is excellent! You can use a piece of paper and pen to write down a schedule of meeting your mates at certain holes, at a given time, provided you write, or maybe you're just stuck on texting only. Maybe, Guy, you first need to know how to say Khaki, not car keys-haha!

If you could guarantee to break 80 through driving well, then I think an 18 handicapper who can putt well would break 100.
