I've worked with fighter pilots most airframes are g limited around 9 g some even lower and they do pull longer turns but they also wear G suits and the margin of error for the Red bull guys is generally much thinner, at these altitudes even a gray out is certain death and that half Cuban 8 at 10 g+ is no joke. The Blue Angels pull 7+ g with no g suits. In the last Thunderbirds crash the pilot blacked out at 8.5 g

The hand + parts of the weight of the arm might way 5kg...so when they pull 10G they lift somewhere near a 50kg weight and have to do split second milimeter corrections. Imagin the muscel memory to cope with these changes. It might be something inbetwwen, but even if it is just 20-30kg, it is still impressive.

they get 10 and 5 G's for 60 sec, but f1 drivers get 5 and 3 G's for 2 hours. There's a difference, but both sports are amazing, and flying is one of the hardest things to do, but if you have'nt driven an F1 car, you have no idea of what it feels like
@paul_vlad4 жыл бұрын
And planes hit those peak Gs very briefly.
@derbigpr5004 жыл бұрын
Not to mention the bumps drivers feel constantly in F1, rattling their entire bodies very violently constantly, while planes fly smoothly. Also, the force it takes to simply press the brake pedal in an F1 car is insane, it's something like doing a single leg squat with 80kg on your back, and that's on top of the force that also pushes the driver forward when the car is slowing down, and they do that over and over again in a race. Also, most G-forces in planes are in one direction, down, towards the pilots legs, because no matter what he does, the plane always angles and then turns by going "up" or "down", so the G-forces the fight pilots feel are always pretty much in the same direction, and that makes it easier to adapt and handle, since the body gets used to it and it's always the same thing the pilot needs to do to prepare for the forces. F1 drivers feel forces in all 4 directions, when turning, slowing or accelerating. When you turn hard left in an F1 car, you feel that force trying to rip your body towards the right. When you turn hard left in a plane, the whole plane and your body first roll left to 90 degrees and then the pilot pulls down to make the plane climb towards left. And he feels very similar whether he's turning left, or right, or climbing straight up. F1 is overall far more demanding on drivers. No wonder they lose so much weight in a single race from all the sweating.

Shows what athletes these pilots are (not that I didn't know that, my father was a flight instructor and raced at one time). 12xg is pretty much the limit of what the human body can take for ANY length of time and not black out. You have to be in absolute peak phtysical condition - fighter pilot condition - to take that kind of force and not black out, which would probably result in your immediate death. I've flown the Extra 300S in a simulator, and it's a dream to fly... but I'll never be in the sort of shape they need to be to take those kind of Gs. And that's before you get to the airmanship required to run that course and not cut a cone, and the fact that hundredths of a second count. Just, you, the plane, the course... and the clock.

@@jallan1407 Not quite. Those racing craft as manouverable as they are, are much, much slower compared to WW2 fighters. Manouverability isn't much in air combat if you don't have the speed to follow through (the soviet I-16 is a good example of that). Keep in mind that they had really well performing air-racers in the 1930's but simply putting guns on them wouldn't make for a good fighter.
