Just so that fellow viewers are aware, you do NOT have to pull apart you fave clothes to copy them into a pattern. There are plenty of videos here on youtube showing you how to lay various items out to get accurate tracings of the pieces involved. I've been doing so with all my fave pieces so that I can move from garment buying to making my own items from carefully sourced materials or materials i have woven or spun myself. Thinking you have to pull apart seams of your fave clothes is certainly enough to scare most people off of this idea, and I just want everyone to know that's not a necessary step at all. :)

Something I recently tried was decondstructing an old, large pair of jeans, ones with a lot of wear in them, then I used this raw denim to cut my own pattern. This left my new pair with a lot of unique marks, (beach patterns, pocket marks) you should try it, the used denim is much easier to sew. Love the vid btw.
@tompahdea9263
@tompahdea9263 3 жыл бұрын
If you have access to charity thrift shop clearance centers you buy by the pound . Find as large a pair as possible and n a condition that suits your taste. I get 40+waist. If you want 2 repair any defects it is easier to do at the flat stage before u sew up. Your can also decorate like the Japanese at this stage.

A couple of weeks ago I could no longer find a pair of shorts with cargo pockets. A few minutes ago I thought "I'm going to look up a video on men's pants patterns." I stumbled upon this channel to watch a guy that has talent and over a 108K subs. I'm not alone. I always enjoy watching and listening to talented people. Great video. I might try to rip apart the seams on an old pair of threadbare shorts that I like and use them as a pattern.

Damn this video is a massive coincidence for me. I was watching a video on how to make jeans from scratch yesterday or the day before, I wanted to see the full process. The dude that made them had quite a fancy setup so I went on Amazon to look for a heavy duty sewing machine and came across that exact Singer which had, to say the least, quite mixed reviews on it. A few days later you cover both in one video, just crazy.

Just circled back around to this, noticed- you never posted a part 2! If you haven't got a new machine by now, I highly recommend sinking a few grand into a used-but-still-young Bernina. Those things are absolute beasts, but still compact and have a variety of functions, like what you're used to from a domestic machine. Unless you're getting into production, I've never found the industrial ones to be worth the space and limits.

Mom told me she found a ton of jean fabric over at my grandma's house (she has passed away) and now I just HAVE to make jeans with that. If she were still alive today, I'd make them with her, so it feels like it will connect me to her in a way. I'm a complete noob at sewing but I wanna do this

What did you decide regarding a more powerful sewing machine? What model is that Singer in the video? I was considering buying a Singer 4452, it looks like yours? I sew only heavy denim and canvas type material.
