Power Rangers staying within Top 5 in 1999 is amazing. Feels like the Lost Galaxy year doesn't get enough credit for surviving a market dominated by the Monday Night Wars and a new Star Wars movie.

i grew up during this time and so for me collecting action figures at this point felt like a gold mine. I remember just being in aww through the aisles. Sure the figures of today have amazing articulation and the detail is incredible, but this was a “You had to be there “ time period!

I feel like from 1998-2000 almost my entire toy budget went to buying Jakks WWF figures and sets.

This was great! Really took me back to being a collector in my late teens/early twenties! Brought back all kinds of memories, and not just stuff related to toys- stuff that happened around that time in general... Definitely added some things to my list that I used to own and would want back!!!

This was great. You should do a video on the early 2000s. He-man 2002, TMNT 2003, the start of Marvel legends, GI joes:valor vs venom. There were a ton of toy lines I remember

1999...wow, I think I was about 15...that was when my toy buying eased off a bit and I only started buying the figures that appealed to me. No need to collect whole lines.

I loved the Phantom Menace!! I was at Toys R Us at midnight!! Literally Darth Maul was the hardest to get!! I loved the movie, the figures, and the Young Jedi card game!! To me the best movie was Phantom menace, and my favorite figures is the Wattos Box set, 12" Darth Maul, and the mail away Mace Windu, I still got this stuff boxed in my collection!! Hated attack of the clones, and Revenge was ok.. But Phantom Menace and the whole experience was awesome!! I also collected alot of Spawn figures back then, and jakks Pacific titan tron live wrestling figures, I had so many wrestling figures from that time... My favorite was the Too Cool with Rikishi 3 pack!! X-Men and Spiderman was also things I would buy, along with Xena.. loved that show, it was so cheesy but I lived for X-Files and Xena!! Also had the Clayborn Evil Ernie and Lady Death figures, still got them, and a box full of Chaos comics!! And had those Matrix and Austin Powers figures too.. I used to have a subscription to Toy Fare magazine, loved that magazine, wish I had kept them all... Also collected Hot wheels first editions and treasure hunts, and beanie babies!! Lol.. And I worked at Kaybee Toys that Xmas when Furbies and Tickle me Elmos was all the craze!! People would just call and call looking for those damn things, and we only got like one or two cases and they were gone in minutes!! Another popular thing was those tomaguci? Stupid digital egg things that turned to pets on a key chain!! People ate those up as well!! And one of those years, maybe 2000 there was free pokemon game mat give away at Toys R Us for black Friday.. the line went outside all the way around the store for that game mat!! Oh and don't forget Teletubbies!! 😂 Oh damn.. I still got those Jay and Silent Bob figures at the very end.. with Walt Flannigan's dog with a huge boner accessory.. 🤣

What makes the the most surprised to hear is that Power Rangers were still near the top selling action figures by 1999. Maybe it was different i the US, but here in Sweden at least the Power Rangers era as a huge phenomenon was over by 1996 at the latest.
@FigureCollections3 күн бұрын
I'm there with you! From my memory, we (everyone of that age group at the time) all collectively moved on from Power Rangers. By 1999 it wasn't the cool thing to watch anymore - literally everything else had taken its place!
@wolfman2102 күн бұрын
@@FigureCollections You're right, Power Rangers had actually fallen off after MMPR and by Turbo the ratings had gotten so bad In Space was meant to be the final season. But In Space and Lost Galaxy rode the sci-fi boom Star Wars' revival in the mid-late 90s had caused. Just like MMPR rode the early 90s dinosaur craze Jurassic Park caused. In other words Saban did the impossible and caught lightning in a bottle twice.

It was a whole lot needed in 1999. Luckily I was a kid in 1999, so I actually played with my toys, and used my imagination. But I would imagine for adults, it must've been really shameful, because there was really no internet to share your love with other nerds. And I know someone will tell me there was internet in 1999. But it was the nerdy dark web of the dial-up era. Back when it would take 25 minutes to download a 20kb picture. Now it's so open, and you can show the world. And even most of the world won't care, there's less judgement. Especially from younger generations. The old-heads, and the WWII generations still judge. At least what's left of them. But now it's an era of apathetic indifference. They see you have a toy collection. They don't care. But instead of judgement, they just think "eh whatever, that's his thing, not mine" and they move on with their life. There's a lot less shaming now. And a lot of that has to do with celebrities showing their odd and eccentric collections. They made it acceptable in the mainstream. The only time anything that was once ever considered taboo, becomes mainstream, is because a celebrity endorsed it, and brought positive awareness to it. Getting away from toys, if you were born in the 90s, or earlier, you're old enough to remember when crocs were the laughing stock of the shoe world. You were the lamest, most uncool person if you wore crocs. You were literally getting made fun of. Those same people who hated crocs, are the same exact hypebeasts who love them now because Justin Bieber and Post Malone started wearing them.

It was fun to collect back then stores where full of toys it was easy to complete your series. No scalpers toys were cheaper nowadays action figures are now 25$ (here in 🇨🇦) while back then prices were between 6,99$ and 8,99$
