Chinoiserie is a derivation of the the French word "chinois" = Chinese. And "toile" is very French and not pronounced toil. Its pronounced "TW-all". Its a fabric style which originated in France in the 18th century, and was inspired by Indian and Chinese fabrics. The full name of the fabric is Toile de Jouy, which translates to "fabric from Jouy," a town outside of Paris.
