I'm exploring the idea of getting a 66 -70 Beetle if I can find one with a mostly solid body and for the right price. I understand that dealing with rust just goes along with getting one. I'm not sure my Wife would be too happy about it but when she was a kid her family had a Beetle as their daily driver so maybe nostalgia would win her over. I was looking for a classic Mustang but prices for those are astronomical!

Yeah even beetles nowadays are a bit pricey to begin with. Still definitely cheaper than those mustangs tho. Good luck to you and I hope you end up with a good bug!

Quit complaining and get a modern car! I've been driving vw's since 1980, and never complain, a true Volkswagen Guy!!!

I have a modern car too, I’ve had this beetle for two years now and I love it to death, wouldn’t sell it for any price.

Really enjoyed the video. Almost had a '63 as my first car. Almost. Subscribed. Looking forward to more on this one.

Thank you! Yeah this was supposed to be my first car too but after a year of working on it I realized that it was a bad idea, haha. Thank you for your support.

Did you check the regulator/brush assembly? Regulator is most likely to fail and is cheap to replace. On a Bosch you can replace it without having to undo the whole alternator.
@smithsgarage2739 ай бұрын
I’ll actually have to check that out, that’s a great idea. I’ve been procrastinating on sending it out so I still have it. Thanks man

I used to own a 71 super beetle. Its was the most reliable car I ever had. It just kept going and going with little maintenance.
@smithsgarage2739 ай бұрын
Man I wish, from what I heard it was always hit or miss when they were reliable or not. When you restore one like I did there’s usually things you miss that cause the unreliabilities.
@drwatson32bit8 ай бұрын
my 72 Super was totally reliable as a daily too. Have a '73 Thing now that hasn't needed anything but a fuel tank in the past decade. A sorted AC VW is totally fine, but a lot of knuckle draggers have been through them over the years. @@smithsgarage273

This is a cool channel with such great quality with little subs, I cannot wait for this channel to grow up big

Thank you man that means a lot! I’m trying my best, thanks for your support.

Top tip, check if your signal wire gets power first. Next: the brushes will not be worn out, the copper wining will also be fine. Just screw the top of the alternator and replace the internal regulator. And your done in 20 minutes. Cheers 🤣
@smithsgarage2739 ай бұрын
Yeah you’re the second person to say regulator, so far it totally seems like that’s what the problem is. Thank you

Love your car ! 👌👌👌what color code is that ???
@smithsgarage2738 ай бұрын
Thanks man! (L346) Im not certain if this is the code but I found the colour by looking at colours from a vw beetle factory colour catalog, it’s called mango green.

Nothing to be sorry about! I’m sorry I didn’t respond sooner i have been really busy. I’m planning on getting back into posting quite soon though. The engine is a 2276cc, I have another video on the engine specs alone. But thanks a lot for your sub!

Aftermarket parts are killing our hobby for these cars, Try and get a bosch unit as the china versions are crappy. Double check your wiring too ;)
@smithsgarage2739 ай бұрын
Yeah my first one was a cheap China one, but this one was a bosch which is why I’m extra confused. Im gonna take it to my alternator guy and get his opinion, hopefully it’ll work out.
