Nice to hear the oldies opinions. Having been led to believe that Japanese elders are very conservative I was a little surprised to hear that they are actually more outward looking, which is nice to know. Good stuff. There is often a "grass is greener on the other side" vibe to these interviews, I think we are all guilty of that now and again. Interesting/fun video, more please.

really enjoying these talks with elders of Japan. There is much to be gained from speaking with them and I hope you do it more. I also would like much longer episodes with more of a selection of people..some of these are just two different people or groups and only about 5-8 minutes...I feel your channel would benefit from longer pieces with a larger sample group. You are a very good an likeable interviewer, let's see more in depth!!!

Very interesting the language part, and the women looked very wise ! It's funny because in France, we also like to make fun of others when making mistakes trying to speak another language. I would say some people might try less hard because of it, and some others do not really care. But I think, this and the education system for English courses in Japan is the problem haha Oh, and something else : it's funny to see how the elders memorized the fact that Cathy is German and re-used this fact in their conversations, trying to make it more understandable for us, and showing that they are well listening to her and can re-use what you said 😮

I'm also embarrassed about making mistakes in a foreign language, but I try to hide it and just smile a bit. It's not that someone will say it's wrong. It's that they won't understand and I'll look foolish. However, it's a necessary part of learning. It takes time and practice.

I really enjoy these older generation interviews. They speak their mind freely, compared to the youngers who seem like they're holding back a little😅 Also, there's nothing bad with accents, and pronouncing the t sound in 'water'. That's how the English say it afaik. Accents of whatever form is generally embraced among English language speakers😊

I know this is a cultural thing, and that younger people are not that interested in politics, but it is such a breath of fresh air to hear about what Japanese people think about Japanese politics, and hear an older person mention that the bureaucracy of it all is just hurting their progress. If it is at all possible and not too much work - could you manually add Japanese subtitles as well? I am studying Japanese, and I have plenty of tools to be able to capture text and instantly find definitions of subtitles - this channel would be an absolute GOLDMINE (even moreso) for studying native speakers' Japanese if you added subtitles. It would be too much, i'm sure, to ask for you to go back to all your old videos as well and add them, but can you consider it moving forward? Thank you, love the content anyway :)

I have to say this and I think I can speak for some/most people. Use broken English if you're not sure. Most people will understand and can use broken English to respond back. The English language is very complex with weird sounds and it's fine if you can't be proper. At least for America, no one is proper when they speak.

Doing more interviews with the older generations (not the well known older people, but the regular everyday folks) may well show there are also false (generalized) assumptions about the older generations by the younger generations, as to how they think and think about the younger generations. Often I find the views of older generations to be quite unpredictable and often very surprising. More such interviews may well help bring down a bit of the unnecessary divides assumed to be between the age groups. Good work!

I was going to ask on one of your previous videos if you only approach young people, since I've been watching, you've only interacted with the young. I'm 51, and I want to go to Japan someday, but meeting anyone, whether becoming friends, or more than friends, it seems more likely with someone closer to my age. Not a complaint, just an observation 😁

I wouldn’t hold up Macron as a great example just because he was younger. Or that young Austrian chancellor who did wrong.
