Betrothal in the ancient world was binding…the same as marriage. Jesus was NOT born to an unwed mother.

You are assuming Joseph and Mary were not married before Jesus was born, Jewish customs at the time would beg to differ. It also doesn't explicitly say they were not married in the gospels.

I believe Jesus was born in Nazareth to Mary and Joseph. While the Annunciation is accurate, the virgin birth and trip to Bethlehem is fiction, added to 2 versions of the gospel story to reinforce the "house of David" prophesy. Joseph's ancestry should have been enough, but that would conflict with the doctrine of virgin birth. God chose Mary to give birth to a man whose mission was to save the world, Joseph provided the seed to make this possible, thus the Son of Man.

@@Zulutime44 sadly, you are misinformed about our Blessed Mother Mary, ever virgin. Jesus is God and man. The Word made flesh. God made all of creation merely by speaking…why do you doubt the virgin birth of Jesus? An all-powerful God who is outside of time is certainly capable of creating a perfect sinless vessel for His son. Your post is seriously wrong on many levels. Read the Bible and seek the truth. If you honestly seek the truth, you will find it.
