at 3:42 might not be the top engine move but I feel like just taking the queen with the bishop simplifies things a lot, rest of the pieces are still stuck, rook is under attack so it pretty much has to take back meaning it's also pretty stuck, then you can do something like pawn to b4 to force the bishop to take and trade your knight and pawn for their only active piece (unless the king moves then it's a free bishop). And then you can probably take the stuck knight to be sure there is no shenanigans later and from there you can probably finish your attack with a pretty simple board and massive positional and material advantage.

@@lostingames3OOO I mean yeah? but black lost that game lol, I'd rather have a longer game guaranteed to win than blundering mate in 2 by desperately trying to checkmate as fast as possible. As a 1500 player myself, I see such crazy games every day. At this level, we can plan a five-move crushing tactic ahead, including all counterplay, but, at the same time, forget that our queen is under attack. Like yesterday, I was two minor pieces ahead, then forked both rocks and was about to exchange a knight for a rock, waiting for the opponent to resign... but my forking knight blocked my own queen's path from defending the kingside, leading to a kindergarten-level checkmate in two. Moreover, I saw that was coming but got overexcited and forgot.

Judging by what you have said, if 1500 rated games look like this then I still have a lot to learn if I ever want to reach that rating. At least now I know what I'm lacking. btw it should be "rook", not "rock"

@@cavemann_ also, I want to add that I have climbed from 1300 to 1500 thanks to Nelson's "Offbeat Gambits" course. I sucked in the middlegame (I still am), so I struggled against opponents with deep openings knowledge: games transposed from book openings that my opponents perfected into middlegames where I sucked. Nelson gave me tricks to beat typical players out of their comfort zone, where they either blunder or I can push faster towards the endgame where I'm good (for a ~1500 player).

A few things, 1. How long did black sit on that final position trying to figure out what went wrong before resigning, 2. When did white see that tactic, and 3. What could, or should black have done? I imagine bishop to c6 to allow king an escape route, or a6 instead of b6, as it would have been defended by the b pawn and then moved in for checkmate? I'm only a 750ish player so I'm certain I'm missing a few other options.
@christopherheckman7957
@christopherheckman7957 Жыл бұрын
I would add: 3. Was this a blitz game? Speaking as a 1550 player, Black shouldn't have moved the queen at 4:27. I would have tried 1. ... Nc6 followed by 2. ... Nb8+ 3. Kxa7 b5+ 4. Ka8 Bc6 mate. Looking back, this is spoiled if White plays 2. Bd5, but then 2. ... Nb4+ picks up the bishop, and the king ought to be mated soon. 2. Bb5 also spoils my plan, but there's 2. ... Nc6 3. Kxa7 b5+ [Strike that! I forgot the bishop was there in this line.] and after the knight on e4 moves (discovered check!) it's mate in a couple.
