The keychron Q1 is definitely one of my favorite keyboards now days. I went with the blue version with phantom brown switches and I love it! I might upgrade later on if I get bored. But, I actually started off with Drop CTRL high profile as my first keyboard and I went way over budget with that one, but it was so worth the buy.
@12fishcake2 жыл бұрын
I now understand the point about numpads. I used to swear by full size keyboards and felt I'd find no numpad to be a major issue, but after my last old one died on me a year ago I've been using a little bluetooth 75% one I happened to have as a temporary measure (that's ended up being semi-permeant lol) and I picked up a separate numpad cheap for when I need one. I've used that numpad twice in that whole year. Now its turned off and tucked in a drawer by my desk and hasn't been touched in months. Numpads have their uses for some I'm sure, but I'm never going to need a full size keyboard again. I'll stick to 75% since I do use the F keys frequently but I don't have a lot of room to manoeuvre on my desk so the downsize really does make a big difference to make things feel less cluttered.

Another good one I feel people often overlook is the Keychron series, I recently purchased the K6 and it was surprisingly good! And I took Glarses view and got Brown switches and the sound and feel is so good! Would highly recommend if people want to get a budget friendly starter board that's built well and has decent customisability.

Akko 3098 is fullsize/1800 layout, hotswappable, comes with very decent keycaps and the Akko switches are cheap while being fine to type on. It's 90 USD shipped. Just a personal tip.

One more super budget entry that is modable with a bit of effort is the tecware phantom. $45 bucks for a better than decent kb got me back into mechanicals after being unhappy with a few others that were more expensive and I'm in the process of building a epomaker gk 87 after figuring out what switches I wanted etc. etc. The fact that there are a ton of youtubers covering mechanicals now sure helps though.

Okay, for my 104 key gang. Some of us write a lot, especially those who do legal or scientific documents, reports, invoices and such so that numpad is critical. When you have to input 5 different people's identification card info on a document that numpad is indispensable. Also some of us are also turbo nerds and play turbo nerd simulation games, a lot of which demand a whole 104 keys and even then you'll need to memorize a lot of combinations. I play very heavily modded Arma 3, default game has like 8 pages worth of inputs, modded adds another like 15. In Arma but also games like DCS world and similar sims the more keys you have the better. Even casual or lite sims like Warthunder and such still demand a mountain of inputs, sometimes you just got to have as much as possible. Experiences exclusive to PC tend to use your entire keyboard more readily. Plus I generally prefer mapping a group of functions to a cluster of keys I have to remember than have to remember a string of key combos.

I used to be crazy about having a keyboard with a numbpad. I got into mechanical keyboards and, I realized that the numbpad isn't really all that necessary. I mean, you have a row of numbers at the top of the keyboard. And having desk space IS important. So, I have been getting into smaller and smaller keyboards. I get the want for the numbpad but, it's really unnecessary.
@AlmostGrewMyHair3 жыл бұрын
4:00 I really like the **look** of the Epomaker board but I don't like that it ticks instead of tocks. Recommendations on Nordic layout boards that sound muted with a similar look but 65% (no F keys or numpad)?
@MiScusi692 жыл бұрын
*_Quick explanation on why I need the numpad_* The Italian layout sucks: it doesn't cover all the needed keys (with È and î being the most important ones), so you need the numpad (unless you want to search every single time for your specific character). This isn't just a problem of the Italian layout, but in general a problem of layouts for languages with diacritics. And Italian doesn't even use that many accents: I don't even want to know how much the French, the Norwegian and the Vietnamese might hate this.

I got the EP 84 thanks to your review and Betty’s, technically is not my first mechanical keyboard but the difference between my previous one and this one is huge so it might as well be. I just changed the keycaps for now and I’m thinking about changing the switches, but I am kinda tight on budget and I have not decided what I want. But the fact that I can adds a lot of value to it. I also have the Epomaker GK68XS, that one I got because is not that expensive either, the pink one is pretty, is hot-swappable, works well with my iPad and MacBook, also with my work provided Chromebook, and is Bluetooth. Both very good with tight budgets.
