The Biblical story of Jonah describes a man being swallowed by a whale, and surviving inside the stomach for 3 days and 3 nights. But the description of the animal doesn’t match what we know today as a whale. Is is possible for a man to survive inside an animals stomach for that long? And what was the animal that swallowed Jonah?

The fish could've been any species. It just had to be big enough to swallow Jonah. This video is overlooking God's role in making it possible that Jonah survive inside the big fish. If God can make three men survive in a fiery furnace, he can surely make Jonah survive three days & three nights in the belly of a huge fish.

While researching this further I found some theories that seem to make very solid sense that Jonah did indeed die in the belly of the "fish" (whatever creature it may be), and then that God revived him after the fish spat him up. Then later in the Bible it showed that Jesus compared his own death & resurrection to "the sign of Jonah" and that "like Jonah" he would spend 3 days in Sheol (the resting place in which souls waited/slept after death before final judgment day). Was very very interesting and made alot of sense with the parallel comparisons to Jesus later talking about his own death & resurrection.

Well, Jonah must have been frightened because he repented, and a few days and nights in the above videos deduction of a 'large fish', being now a constellational "belly of the whale", wouldn't induce fear. Nor would being in a submarine-like vessel, with eyes as windows to see in the sea surrounds and in the abyss, induce Jonah to repent of his sins. Nor would this deep sea vessel cause Jonah to be dying, and be bleached and going blind in one eye, if it was spacious and had a pearl for a light inside. That sounds rather comforting and not harrowing. Jonah suffered from the stomach acids inside the belly of this large fish. Jonah feared for his life. He knew he had disobeyed God, he fleed and was consequently punished by God, who caused/instructed a 'large fish' to swallow him whole. He still would have died, because the scripture says that after he went to hell and repented, then God resurrected him, and he was promptly spat or vomited out on land by this large fish. The large fish needn't have macerated Jonah''s flesh at all, since it was instructed by God to swallow him whole, and thereafter, it was instructed to spit/vomit Jonah out. Every living thing on the earth, in the earth, the air and in the sea obeys God, because God already created these living creatures, as He stated, in the Genesis account.

This whale is still very much alive and is called the Cetus constellation. Hercules, the son of Jupiter and Alcmene, was another sun-god, identical with Horus, and called the Hero of the Skin, on account of his always being represented as wearing the skin of the Cleonian lion (Leo of July). He performed twelve labours, according to the twelve signs of the zodiac, and descending into hell, dragged Cerberus into the upper world, after which he cast him back again to perdition. He was called 'Solar Light,' and 'Saviour of the World,' and according to the Orphic hymn, brought a cure for all our ills. The sacrifices offered to him were bulls, boars, rams and lambs; and he was said to have been three days in the belly of a whale, and to have feasted on its liver, which he broiled. The liver represented the seat of emotions. Remember Prometheus?

I have been told about some extra-biblical Hebrew literature concerning Jonah's experience, speaking about a real journey inside that "fish" which Jonah sees and learns many things, and also gives us an interesting indication concerning the fish's eyes that would have been made with a translucent stone that could allow Jonah to see the outside but prevented the look in the opposite direction. This sounds very high-tech from the point of view of people living 3 thousand years ago...

God could have allowed Jonah to survive inside of a large "fish" or whale -- or, He could have allowed him to survive inside of an angelic submarine (or a seaworthy advanced-technology craft). I vote for the sub/craft. Of course, Jonah would have had no idea that there was such a thing -- thus, in the belly of a "fish".

It is described as a source of various metals: "beaten silver is brought from Tarshish" (Jeremiah 10:9), and the Phoenicians of Tyre brought from there silver, iron, tin and lead (Ezekiel 27:12).

@TheGianluman
@TheGianluman 2 жыл бұрын
@@AmandaOakley79 they sure knew. However, while the bible say: _"Now Yahweh had appointed a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah spent three days and three nights in the belly of the fish."_ In the _Midrash_ it's said that the eyes of the fish were like two windows which let the light come inside (from the outside). According to _Pirkei de-Rabbi Eliezer,_ an aggadic-midrashic work on the Torah containing exegesis and retelling of biblical stories, those windows, i.e. the eyes of the fish, had glasses made of obsidian, a translucent stone that could allow light to enter inside that "chamber". Rabbi Meir (II century) stated _"A pearl was hanging in the innards of the fish and it made light to Jonah and Jonah could see everything that's in the sea and in the abyss."_ It surely was not a fish intended as a living animal. What I'm trying to say is that, introducing these accounts in an advanced framework, Jonah may have experienced a journey inside a technological underwater device. In those times, biblical hebrew language featured more or less 500 root words covering their whole vocabulary of knowledge. How could they describe a submarine of modern days? דָּ֣ג _dāḡ_ which means _"fish"_ from דָּאַג _da'ag_ in the sense of shaking, squirming, i.e. Moving by the vibratory action of the tail. Hebrew _dāḡ_ may have been the most proper term the author could use in order to explain any thing that could move underwater autonomously. With the same method, Native Americans used to call those powerful, steam-belching railroad locomotives as _"Iron Horses"_ because horses were their most familiar means of transport, and that was also the purpose of trains. Now, this is not a matter of faith. If you still need to think Jonah lived three days in the belly of a fish, it's ok. In my opinion there's something much more fascinating that's waiting beyond the comprehension of a narrative that was written in an undeveloped language which hadn't the linguistic tools to support similar concepts. Peace ✌️

@@anthonyjohn9000 you're certainly free to have your opinion. I am skeptic, however not a complete denial. I have two reasons that push me to continue to research: many ancient stories from cultures all around the world speak about individuals (later intended by western doctrine as deities) involving somehow a greater knowledge and know-how; secondly, in my opinion the speculation those stories are completely made up is shallow and makes no sense: in the ancient times writings were costly from every point of view, from materal to training scribes. Ancient hebrew authors had better to do than make up stories...but for who, then? How many of them weren't illitterated? There were just few of them who were able to read. What's the purpose for those made up stories? Or think how extraordinary could have been for Sumerian to write on clay tablets... I rather think we may not be truly understanding the real meaning of those words. Hebrew had a limited vocabulary: something like 500 root words covering their whole vocabulary, their whole knowledge. If these "Elohim" had the a technological underwater device, how would you have described it? I should remind you a similar situation: native Americans when they faced the firsts trains few hundreds years ago. They used to call them _iron horses._ No better way to describe something that had no words to be identified. No words because totally out of concept. Peace ✌️

2:35 how does the original writer of the book of Jonah know that Jonah begged God for forgiveness for 3 days and 3 nights? Only way is if Jonah told him. And If he didn’t tell him then that means that part is made up. Which the means the story of Jonah isn’t real. And Pretty sure the book of Jonah isnt written by Jonah because the story refers to Jonah in the 3rd person. For example the book uses the words.. “He begged God…” I’m fascinated by the Bible and Christianity but I just can’t believe that it’s true. So hard to believe.

It takes more faith to believe the lies that are fed to us constantly than the actual reality and history of the world.

None that wouldn't have thoroughly chewed him into ground beef before swallowing - plus neither fish nor cetacean typically carry a multi-day supply of fresh air in their gullet since they swallow what they eat WITH sea water.
