I don’t agree that there’s such a thing as true PC gaming, that’s so gate keepy. If you have a shitty little laptop that you play Terraria or something on. You’re a PC gamer. There are many, many casuals who don’t play on a dedicated machine. Hell, there are many macOS users who want games to be ported to work on the machine they already own. Yes, macOS and Linux machines are PCs. Windows computers are no more personal than any other personal computer. That being said, building an expensive gaming PC is more of an enthusiast thing. Except I know people who have money to spare and just buy them who are pretty casual. I also know people who just built a cheaper one (they absolutely do not need to be over a grand, my god) not because they’re an enthusiast but because it’s a cheaper option. Anyway, that’s all I wanted to say.

I have two PC's, one for my TV and one for my desk. I have a wireless lapboard set up and controller, along with a small wireless mouse and keyboard combo when I want to game on TV. My set up at the desk is similar minus the combo and lapboard, and it's a multi monitor high refresh rate set up. Father of two husband of one. I'm and enthusiast with the time of a casual.

Used to think I was a console gamer but now I’m my late 20’s working full time with a family & dog I’ve struggled finding time to dedicate to game. I’ve since switched to a Nintendo Switch and a Steam Deck, playing games on the go vs having to sit down at my desk for a session has changed the way I view things in my life. Shout out to JD Coffee also loving the videos and the conversations we have as a community. Hope everyone has a happy Tuesday wherever you are in the world

I just bought the OLED SteamDeck. I’m a dad and sometimes my time is limited due to family and work. But, even if I was a single bachelor, I’d probably still roll with the SteamDeck. It is a console in a handheld that bridges PC and Console together. It also allows me to go through a huge library of games that I never played or finished. I’m also blessed to be given the opportunity to experience emulation and play through hundreds of classics that I also didn’t play or finish. Once I get the settings set, I’m not focusing on the FPS or any of the statistic numbers that are displayed up top, I’m going to actually enjoy the game. I’ve been enjoying your content here recently sir, but remember, never forget why you fell in love with gaming to begin with, and let’s all be grateful that we are alive to experience such an amazing time in human history. God bless you all, and happy gaming.

The part about how console gaming has become more complicated rings so true. I’m in some groups specifically for the PlayStation portal and there are so many people who have issues and need help because it isn’t a simple plug and play a lot of the time. I can also get on board with the casual enthusiast idea. I used to rarely have time to game, but I love the experience. Now I have a ton of time temporarily due to being stuck in workers comp for ruining my leg at work. I also want to say, I’ve watched your vids for a long time, and the journey you have been on is awesome.

8:22 This is why I use RetroAchievements. I like playing games other people play but I don't like socializing with the community all that much. I find that RA caters to me in that sense. I can play the games I'm interested in, compete with other players, and participate in events I want. I do all this while interacting very minimally with other players and playing at my own pace.

I had to pause the video to comment not even halfway through. I am a casual enthusiast as well. More time to game would be fantastic. I catch myself enjoying older games and somewhat regretting new release purchases of certain titles. I just like gaming in general. Joined a once a month D&D campaign and have board games that aren’t the “standard” like Dark Souls the board game and Thunder Road Vendetta. I probably have 100 different Bicycle deck of cards that aren’t of any value just unique. I am thrilled that you’ve continued making videos my friend. 💥✌️

Best cup yet. As a dad as well, I really resonated with the whole "enthusiast with the time of a casual". These days I am more of a collector than gamer just due to time available to spend on actually playing games. And overall, I am very much a "nostalgic" gamer as well (otherwise known as a sucker for the ports, remasters, and new games that look/play like older games).

I am a father of four in my 40s. My first games were Wizzard of Wor and The Last Ninja on the C64 and Secret of Monkey Island and Lemmings on the 286 PC. In my youth in the 90s I played all LucasArts point & click adventures. When growing older I made a long pause. My last game for a very long time was Knights of the Old Republic in the early 2000s. The release of the Nintendo Switch changed everything. It established a new way of gaming for me. It showed me that handheld gaming was completely up my alley. After I started gaming again with the Switch, I bought a jailbroken 2DS on ebay. This opened the world of CFW for me. The Playstation Vita followed, then the New 3DS XL, then the WiiU. Last but not least the Steamdeck. Today I am all about sitting on my couch at home or in my car waiting for my daughters at their cheerleader training, playing RPGs on my handheld of choice. And because I am a 'late blooming gamer', I have decades of legacy RPGs to discover. It's awesome.

I’m a versatile gamer. My interests, time available, and style shifts with my wherever I am in life. Sometimes I play portable so I can game but be closer in proximity to those important to me. Other times gaming is liking to going to cinema for a big film. I play it on a big screen so I can truly get absorbed into the narrative and art. Sometimes I run back retro titles to re-experience something that imprinted on me as a youth. Other times I hop into the latest and greatest hit to enjoy the community aspect of the hobby. The great thing is that I allow myself to float around. It feels natural to my experience in other aspects of life. A little of this and little of that. It helps me get the most out of what gaming can add to my life.

i am the same way, but my story is a little different, i am a PC enthusiast, and last time i played golden sun was in fact through an emulator, the first was on a ps2, as a child. my point being, i wanted more from my experiences as a child because i knew if i could tweak things how i saw fit, than id truly be able to experience things as i felt they were intended. gaming is an interactive medium after all, interacting with it should be up to your own preference, and mine simply involves a little more savvy of an experience than others seem to have, its why i cant sit and justify purchases on things like epic store, when i know that if my internet goes down or something, those purchases in most cases are null and void. one thing i like about PC gaming, is that people often have that mindset too, and things like modifications that may add offline progression or bots to an old game are ever present, even with newer stuff, albeit much less so. to be honest, casuals have ruined this platform in the past years, and i think a lot of the people who simply download steam and play games that way would honestly benefit from a gaming console much more. to me, pc gaming is about making your own way to do things, whether or not a developer wants you to do so. i did shell out for my system on a hardware level after all, so i wont get ripped off on a software level. and to add to that, some people are just fine with having internet connection walls present in their entertainment, mainly due to the fact that they probably have better internet connections than i do, but still. my preferences are based on what ive had to go through to experience these things, and often times that does mean requiring a game to be playable offline, or installable offline. consoles just dont do that for me, atleast not new ones that arent jailbroken yet.

one assumption that many get wrong about PC gamers, is thinking that we all strive for the highest end rig, that offers the best performance, highest resolution and highest framerate, the reality is, many of us are budget gamers, with many our rig being in the same league as a Series S.

I along most of my friends have always been primarily PC gamers. But it was always some online game; mmos or competitive shooters. It was largely due to us already being on the PC for school, and wanted to kill time. We usually had some time and experience with handhelds and consoles, but our community always stayed on pc. Getting older now, we have less time to kill; so we don't really play consoles anymore. Easier to hop between a game of valorant to youtube, than to boot up the ps4 for a 30 minute update. Personally, I've returned to handheld pokemon games due to it being a game where i can bring along with me anywhere in the house.

2 points. 1 PC gamers have casual and enthusiast Casual buy a gaming laptop or Desktop from a store and play their game on it. Like WOW. Where enthusiast will typically build their own. 2 I personally think people need to stop with the I am a PC gamer or a PlayStation gamer. And just be a I like to play X kind of games. For example, retro, RPG or FPS, who cares what you play on? It should be about the type of game you like, and then find a community that plays the same kind of games.

I’m a console gamer with a computer science degree. I work with computers and just don’t have interest in fighting with them in my leisure time. The amount of time and effort required to maintain a gaming PC requires a level of passion I don’t have. I thought Steam Deck would level the playing field but I’ve had multiple games that behaved differently on my Steam Deck than they did on other people’s Steam Decks so it’s clear that there’s still a level of unpredictability and mandatory troubleshooting that I’ve never encountered on Switch.

I think I would call myself an all around gamer. I especially love very "video gamey" feeling video games. I got a little fed up with how a significant chunk of the gaming market has shifted toward "cinematic" type games. Where games feel like they are forcing you to stop and take in a large amount of dialogue and cut-scenes without as much significant actual gameplay. Maybe its a little ironic, because one of my favorite games, Metal Gear Solid I feel was kind of an big offender to this and kicked off an approach to the industry making more "cinematic" style games. But that one feels right to me, because not only do I love the story and characters, but it a very "video gamey" feeling video game. Loaded with tense stealth and action gameplay as well as it being a short and sweet quality experience. I too am nostalgic for older games, because they tend to be shorter, sweeter, higher quality pure gaming that respect your time. That's what I really appreciate about Vampire Survivors, its a new game, but its simple and arcade like and I can play it with my friends, get straight into the action. Pure gaming. You were spot on about your thoughts on Halo. I think Halo was a bit of gaming phase for me, because I did love it and play it with friends a lot back in the day. And its still a very good game, but I haven't gone back to it in years. Its just a little bit boring compared to some other options. The one FPS I tend to go back to with friends the most is the '09 MW2, for the split-screen multiplayer with my friends on a Friday night. Simple good fun. I also love the From Soft games. Don't love Elden Ring as much as Dark Souls, but its fine. Someday I'll finish it. I play fighting games with online friends on Steam frequently. BlazBlue Central Fiction especially is a phenomenal game, with great depth. That along with Super Smash Bros. Melee and Soul Calibur II are some of my all time favorites. Street Fighter 6 is also really damn good! I also juggle some mobile gacha games, which don't respect your time. But do find them to be fairly fun. But it might also be a bit of a gaming phase for me, that has lasted for a few years now. I feel like I just can't quit some of them, even though I'm free to play on most of them, including the one I've cared the most about, Fate/Grand Order (feel free to hate). It'll be the end of service that sets me free from that hell, or whenever my life just gets too busy for me. Oh I also play Dr. Mario 64 with my mom on original hardware hooked up to my CRT frequently. We usually play until we max out the timer at 99:59. Looking forward to getting back into some horror games for spooky season. Absolutely love the Resident Evil series. So yeah, I love games new and old as long as I enjoy them. I'm 30 and my first console was an NES, so I'm very Nintendo nostalgic like you and I also have lots of games that I haven't even played. I've primarily shifted to gaming on PC (got a high end custom prebuild) for the past 4 years. The only new consoles I care about are the Switch and whatever Nintendo does next, for the same reasons as what you've explained. Cheers!

If I want couch gaming I play on the ps3. Honestly, I'm kinda done with the present gaming scene. Maybe nintendo's next system will bring me back. Perhaps sony will do better next time. Until then, I'm sticking to the ps3 and psp. I've had more fun with them than with anything in this current day. Lots of hidden gems I missed out on. Also, I firmly believe that you don't have to chase the current thing all the time. You can still have fun with older games and consoles.

Outer wilds was one of the best games i've ever played because it was a new experience and was really well done. Nostalgia usually wears off pretty fast for me once I hop back into the games I played as a kid since most of them were not high-quality games at the time. 3rd party licensed games on game cube don't often hold up well lol

I think Valve could bridge the gap between "casual" console gamers and PC players by releasing a steam console. it would take out the confusion of building a PC for newcomers and at the same time it would provide a single sku for devs to target. Valve also has the purchasing power to get AMD to build another custom chip at a relatively low cost like they did with the steam deck.

I relate in that, at 47 years old, I also love the nostalgia of popping in a tried and true experience like Contra or Excite Bike on NES. But I also enjoy switching back and forth between that and the challenges of something brand new. There’s very few types of games I don’t enjoy. I’m not a fan of telltale games, or party/mini games. At least not yet. I do try and to stay open minded. But I also have very little time for video games. But I grew up with them and I love getting back to that feeling of playing them. I don’t take it too serious. I rarely beat games. Although when I do it feels great. Last one I beat was Darius Twin on SNES with an arcade stick. That was pretty awesome because those type of games are so hard. My grown college kids thought I was crazy when they saw me jumping around celebrating that victory.. haha
