Excellent video as always, Paul! Soil is one of the easiest things to get wrong. 😁👍

@@carlosavalos9937 That will work just fine, some Perlite too!

@ I wish I could get chunky perlite in my area how ever I did mix some pumice I bought at Walter Anderson nursery in San diego

I keep seeing good results with a Sandy loam mix bought by the ton from a local landscape store. It's probably 80% - 90% sand with some organic matter making up the rest. I top dress my pots with compost a couple of times a year which seems to help provide some nutrients and protects from weeds until it eventually breaks down and incorporates into the soil.

You can’t get any better than sandy loam. Hit it some compost. It’s silky if soil can ever get silky.

plus Gary's Top Pot....good like sand but easier on the back and arms.
@RAREDRAGONFRUITАй бұрын
Gary’s is good, have you seen our interview with him? We interviewed Gary a few years ago and he recommended sand. If you go with Gary’s Best Top Pot, I’d mix it 50/50 with sand… harder on the back but better for the plants 🌱

FF popular with cannabis growers. Ocean Forrest way too strong for certain grows supposedly. The Froggy one is good.

Yes, great for short term, but it breaks down over time. Fox farms is good to top dress as a fertilizer but it has a lot of perlite

What if a add 30% more sand to the kellog cactus plm mix with 10% perlite?
@RAREDRAGONFRUIT13 күн бұрын
Perhaps used and and perlite as the base and top dress with Kellogs. There is alot of compost in that bagged soil.

Soil is composed of mostly sand, silt and clay. Soil is the vehicle to carry and store nutrients. Ever had white rice? Ever had flied lice? ‘nuf said.

Sand is not food for any plant nor for microbes, tho it does help with drainage. Noticed that your fruits are small due to df starvation!! Roots will naturally go wherever nutrients are so empty out your 2 years old pots with sand should confirm that roots likely formed on the surface where organics are

@@RAREDRAGONFRUIT I would say that this person knows exactly what they are talking about not necessarily an insult when talking about your df . You had a similar response for me. Ain’t no thing. I have no questions about sand but G Matsu say that they’d rather use sand in space. I kinda agree. Hella dragon fruits growing in space. I’d like to see him ship sand anywhere let alone to my backyard. Now that’s an insult to an uninformed G.ardener like me. Sand has no nutrients…agreed. Sand is not a renewable resource. Ever tried to make sand. I make compost everyday.
