A lot of times it's just niche foods that require a taste/palate for it. I find pate disgusting and as such didnt enjoy my entree during a 7 course at an upscale french place, but I'm sure somebody else would find it amazingly done. People are willing to pay 600 dollars because it's a very specific niche that's rare to find and rarer to find done well, maybe they dont find it overrated at all. You just have to check the place you're going to beforehand. There are plenty of upscale multicourse places that follow a traditional menu. For example, to my friend, all tea tastes the same. He would probably find my fairly expensive first harvest longjing tea a waste of money, but to me I find the luxury very worth it. If that same friend walked into a like 50 dollar tea tasting, he'd probably be like wow what a scam.

Normally I hate it when restaurants use non-hygienic surfaces to serve food for their fine dining for "aesthetics". Good luck sterilizing a plaster cast of a hand that guests had to lick food off of! However that tin is pretty easy to clean and is absolutely hilarious.

As a taiwanese person, i always found it weird why mom kept needles and spools of thread (later crayons) inside tin cookie boxes. Never knew this was a universal thing.
@69hunter55
@69hunter55 Жыл бұрын
The truth is the tin round cookie 'box' was originally to keep sewing tools and yarns of threads, etc right after they got cleaned after every cookies inside enjoyed by everyone. Naah, I'm not serious, that's just a joke. But that would be cool if the sole purpose of the company who manufactured those things really thought about that.

I've done the CAN$199 meal at Rouge in Calgary (okay, it came with a wine for EVERY course) but it didn't have THAT many courses, but at least they grow a lot of their veggies and herbs. They don't have Michelin stars because Dun-Dun-DUN, Michelin ratings don't exist in Canada. But THIS?? For USD$265? I'd do it. Worth every bite.

Maybe I’m wrong but the “madre e hija” plate might be referring to “mole madre” which is a concept just like sourdough (called “masa madre” in spanish) for its the “mother” from which the “hija” is spawn. So then you have an “aged” mole next to a “young” mole but idk.

Yea it’s definitely more expensive than cooking at home but that’s missing the point. You have 2 extremes, people eating off an ipad cuz they can at one side and not doing anything other than the cheapest food on the other. This is far from being on either of those. Besides, people struggling with money aren’t going there, it’s the people with the money enjoying life.
