During the Black Friday sales I picked up the Pana 42.5mm f1.7. It's a great focal length for filming BMX racing, especially if you have track access, and the wider aperture will help with low light. Pretty sharp, too!

Aperture BMX that’s great to hear man! I hope you’ve enjoyed using it so far it’s still an integral part of all the videos I make!
@ApertureBMX6 жыл бұрын
It's definitely going to be integral to the low light stuff I'm shooting over the winter, and I'm sure it'll be great for when the days lighten up, too! Solid recommendation in the video!

GREAT CONTENT MAN. Question for you though. How would you compare the panasonic 25mm 1.7 to the 20mm 1.7 in terms of performance ?

TheMelomaneTV Official thanks man! The 20mm definitely superior in terms of optics, but it’s slower in af! Both of them are great for the price!

good reviews KC. I am going to buy G9 new with warranty for 1000 US in canada, and thanks to your comments will get the 12-60 for about 200 US. you have enough detail without going to the dark side (pun) of 30 minutes of boring side by side shots (à la technologymafia). was going to get the pan 20mm or sigma but looks like i'll go for Pan leica 15mm instead of sigma at some point for bokeh (what do you think? have you tried it - fast AF apparently) also available as DJI lens, both in the 300 US range like new, but DJI apparently with different coating. I used the G7 for a couple of weeks and liked it so i'm going to love the G9, except for G7 autofocus but new system might be operator error, had a6000 for 5 years great AF but shutter death at only 29k, body was babied. I appreciate the fact that even the basic PAN kits seem to be better than my sony sel70210, possibly the 50 1.8 too. My shots on the G7 were way better than i expected. Anyways, i'm siwthcing over. sony wants 1000 US in canada for 6400 body, highway robbery... plus I cant take their user unfreindlieness any longer. FINAL Q: on the G( (and maybe gh5) can you use the ports when the screen is out to the side or not? THANKS
@KimCruz15 жыл бұрын
hey man i actually don't know if you can do that on the gh5, however the glad to hear you've come to the m43 side haha.. honestly sony cameras are great, but i think they're a bit expensive sometimes!

Come on, teasing me with this lenses 😅 I was looking at the 25mm Panasonic but, I think it has to much zoom to use it as studio set up,(I think I got to small of a room, (tried with 12-60 set at 25mm) will try it out more, but also wanted it for travel photos and cinematic sequences (I do mostly travel vlogs and have the 12-60 Panasonic ) any recommendations? 😁

lol the 25mm 1.7 for sure. wider lenses won't have as shallow depth of field.. the 25mm is one of the lenses i like for cinematic sequences! kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHKon55-ZrxsmZo

another great video mate. I got here from the other video you recommended (re Gx9 camera). Is that the cam you're using here? I'm also pleased to know that you used pan 25mm 1.7 for this video cos i picked one up 2 weeks ago too. yet to try it out. so what settings did you use with this video here to shoot?

Thanks a lot man honestly been in a funk in my life and KZbin so I haven't posted much.. will try to post more! When I do these sequences I just shoot wide open and play around with the lights etc.. having a lens with decent background blur like the 25mm 1.7 and a decent light is best for these kind of shots! Obviously always make sure your white balance is set accordingly to the temperature of the light (white led is normally 5600 or 5500) and frame rates usuallly 60 FPS and shutter speed around 1/120 (honestly you can go up or down and no one will notice). Those are the most critical things!
@larryFWD4 жыл бұрын
@@KimCruz1 Awesome! Thanks bud'. I've always used Nikon and for the cinematic films I shoot on 1080HD, I tend to just religiously stick to 24fps , 1/50th ss, and work the ISO around these. But I agree that with 4k, 60fPS and 1/120 Shutter spd is decent. allows you to get those nice smooth slo mo if need be. I need to mind my White Balance more now as you said. It's something I've always left on Auto 🤦🏽🤓

For a nice "one lens to rule it all", the Olympus 14-150mm f4-5.6 II is quite nice in this regard... Plus it's weather sealed, AND cheaper than the Panasonic's 14-140. No Dual.I.S.2 if you have a Panasonic body though. No idea how the two compare to each other though. I've considered picking up the 14-140 myself, but it's the same price as the PanaLeica 15mm which makes it a difficult decision to say the least... The one big problem with that Sigma 18-35mm f1.8.... Yeah, it's sooooo heavy. But I can definitely see why it's so popular with the GH5 folk when paired with a speed booster, simply due to that nice wide field of view, and of course just how much light it gulps in.
@KimCruz16 жыл бұрын
lol the sigma practically sucks in light like a black hole! but never used the 14-150 before but i hear it's also not stabilized so anyone with a g7 might have a hard time at longer focal lengths! but i never doubt olympus builds.. in my experience they usually are just that little bit better than panasonics!

What color profile settings do you use for videos?)
@KimCruz16 жыл бұрын
Михаил Захаров hey man mostly it’s just natural with saturation turned down to -1.. that’s it lol
@МихаилЗахаров-ъ2б6 жыл бұрын
@@KimCruz1 thank you! Do you do color correction in post? It is popular to use CNED for it, but I think, on g7 or g85 standard or natural is better because of good color reproduction in skin tones. What do you think about that?
@KimCruz16 жыл бұрын
Михаил Захаров I don’t really color correct these days I mostly just play around with the colours manually when/if I have time.. also I tried cined a little bit before.. honestly I don’t think it’s good to push the 8 bit files from the g7 but I am stunned at the results other people get... I stick to natural and just go with as little color editing as I can just coz it takes less time and yeah, usually Better skin tones like you said!

Hey Kim, what about the Sigma MFT versions - the 16mm and 30mm 1.4 ? I was thinking of getting them but not sure how the autofocus would be and mainly that case is for video. Heard that they are heavy but this would not bother me with my G85. How would you rate the Sigma 16mm 1.4 against let's say the Oly 17mm and the Pana 15mm 1.7 ? Or the Sigma 30mm 1.4 versus the Pana 25mm 1.7 ?
@KimCruz16 жыл бұрын
Hristo Dobrev hey man I can only comment on the 16mm and 15mm and I talked about it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e36Qd6WVbd-skNU For best bang for the buck in sharpness and performance get the sigma- super sharp (sharper than the 17mm but not sure if it’s as sharp as the 15mm). It’s also weathersealed. The 15mm is nice and small but not weather sealed but also very sharp. Go with the 17mm if like me you have some weird love affair with it! It’s not as sharp as the others, it’s not weather sealed but for me it has the right focal length! Highly suggest trying out the lenses first before you buy!

@@KimCruz1 Thanks Kim! To be honest, I found a really good deal on the Oly 12-40mm f 2.8 second hand and it will arrive tomorrow with a free testing before purchase. If it is all good I would probably skip on these primes for now but if I am not happy would go for Sigma 16mm 1.4 and the Pana 42.5 1.7 for my go-to lenses.

What's your favorite m43 lens set up?
@alanplatt8886 жыл бұрын
The one I seem to use the most is the Olympus 14-150. Next is the Panasonic 7-14. In good light or with my EM1 Mkii I find them a 2 lens Nr full range pack. Tack on the Olympus 75-300 in good light I have bang for my buck. Keep the videos coming, good work.

Alan Platt dude that sounds like an awesome set up!! A lot of my shooting is in the 24-100 range so sadly not a lot of telephoto lenses but if I ever get into it, I might just get a set up like yours!!

@@KimCruz1 I also have the f2.8 12-40 + 40-140 F2.8 + 1.4 converter. (lucky me). The thing is, I rarely travel with them, unless I know I'm going to need best M4/3 quality. Travel, weight etc, the others are good to go to most places. I don't do video, mostly point zoom & shoot.

Thoughts about the Panasonic 8-18mm?
@KimCruz16 жыл бұрын
@@Fatherbuilt only used it in the shop but from what i can tell from reviews along with my limited time, it's awesome! if you need a wide angle zoom and don't need it to be super fast, this is the lens because it takes you all the way to 18mm! say you go out for a photo walk, even though this is a wide angle, you still have a somewhat standard focal length there without needing to bring another lens!
