Your past videos have been quite good but this one is a cut above the rest. What makes it so is a spontaneity that is missing from some of the others. The video editing is also especially good, as it gives the viewer a flavor of the place like none of the earlier episodes did. From this vantage point Wrocław looks fun, quaintly beautiful, fast-moving, culturally rich, and a little bit nervous. What a wonderful city to visit while learning how to speak Polish!

I think I live in the English version of Wrocław. York is a perfectly sized, piękne stare miasto, overrun by tourists, students and traffic jams! 😁 Kiedyś bardzo chciałabym odwiedzić Wrocław 😊
@SzalonyKucharz
@SzalonyKucharz 2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't consider these two cities alike. They're both cities, that's for sure, but this is were pretty much all similarities end. York is a much older city and smaller in size compared to Wro. It's been an English city since the Norman conquest of Britain in 1069 and never changed owners, while Wrocław.... was a Bohemian stronghold in Silesia initially, to be then conquered by the Duke and later first King of Poland, Bolesław, and then again to be controlled by the Czechs and then the Polish House of Piast. Then feudal fragmentation of the early 13th century resulted in Wrocław being a part of semi-sovereign Duchy of Silesia. Then the Mongols arrived in 1241 and devasted the city and the region, to be repopulated by people of Germanic extraction and in 1262 Wroclaw was re-founded under Magdeburg rights. By the end of 13th century, Wrocław was heavily Germanized. The next century saw the region losing its ties to Poland and the Czech kings taking control over Silesia again. In the 16th century the Bohemian Kingdom including Silesia came under control of the Habsburg dynasty and Wroclaw was part of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation until 1740s, until the Austrian War of Succession when the Habsburgs lost Silesia to Prussian Hohenzollerns. It was a Prussian and later Imperial German and 3rd Reich's city until 1945, when it was decided during the Potsdam Conference that East Prussian province is to be dismantled, with its region to be handed over to USSR and Poland as war reparations. The pre-war, predominantly German population of the so-called Regained Lands was replaced by a Polish population, resettled mainly from pre-war eastern parts of Poland, now belonging to Ukraine, Lithuania and Belarus. So, in terms of architecture and cultural heritage Wrocław is quite different in looks from other, typically Polish cities, with the exception of those which were also predominantly German before 1939: Toruń (Thorn), Gdańsk (Danzig), Malbork (Marienburg) and to some degree, Poznań (Posen). Most of today's Wrocławians are only the third or fourth generation of locals. I don't think York has such a tumultuous history.

@@SzalonyKucharz I agree, Wrocław is much different than York, every city, town or village are all different from each-other, they might have similarities, but are not exactly the same. It's like twins, they aren't always the same, one could be left-handed one could be right-handed, if you get what I mean.

I remember conversations with Germans (it was one certain episode of Easy German I think) about what they think of Polish cities in general (if they like them, what do they like about them and what they don't)- many answers indicated "characteristic Eastern Europe architecture" with an old "communistic" styled blocks of flats and so on. Of course, you will find places in Wroclaw, Krakow, Warsaw that really look grey and sad. However, the situation is exactly the same as in Dresden, Berlin, Paris, Milan, Athens etc.- I've seen exactly almost the same looking large blocks of flats there like in polish cities, so the opinion is unfair. Regarding Wroclaw, the city becomes simply overcrowded unfortunately what makes the life of residents (including my person) even harder- not in terms of tourists, it's simply clear that they come, they have appropriate infrastructure and are welcome but this is rather about a large number of temporary workers and people moving from the rest of the country that are pretty convinced that they "dream" of the better living standard may come true.

Wrocław przypomina mi o Pamplona w Hiszpanii. Pamplona jest mała (mniej więcej) miasta . Jest bardzo dużo młodzieży i fajnych zabytków. Parki w Pamplonie sa, moje osobiste odczucie, najlepsze w świecie!
