I was born and raised in Ireland, yet my parents are Polish, I've always had a Polish upbringing. Polish food, Polish friends, Going to see family in Poland every summer and stuff like that. I'm just a simple 12 year old kid- nothing else- but the problem is- my parents never taught me Polish because they thought there was no need for it since because I would speak English in school. Yet my cousins went to weekend Polish classes before they moved back to Poland. I just always felt so envy, because I really wanted to learn Polish but the problem was I had to do myself, I was taught a little bit of Polish, BUT I never got to finish it. Especially whenever you have like friends that their parents come from the country as your parents, which can be useful so you can communicate in your native language, unlike me all my friends talked Polish so well. In school I always got help because I speaked another language, which made me feel like I was dumb because I needed more help than the people in my class who speaked English as their native language and everytime I said to a new teacher, (Miss or Mrs) ____ for example, oh that's alright- so you'll need more support, ..... I was always annoyed when teachers said this- and sometimes people giggled behind my back, I just felt so sad. Now I'm in Secondary/Middle School- and things have got better- I'm learning French and Spanish plus English in School, and in my free time I learn German,Polish and Italian. Thank you for reading this and I hope you have a wonderful day! 😁 Kocham Polsce! 🇵🇱❤ Edit: I no longer study Irish.

Italian language reads almost the same way as Polish, it has penultimate syllable accent , similar consonants and softenings (Luccio, Assisi, disegno). It also has similar intonation so Italians get Polish pronuciation almost perfect.
@luckyluckydog1234 жыл бұрын
@@JesusMagicPanties 'almost the same' is a bit of an overstatement :) Polish is fairly difficult for Italians to pronounce well (some words such as noga, policja etc are easy, true, but many are difficult, such as cześć, słychać etc)
@JesusMagicPanties4 жыл бұрын
@@luckyluckydog123 I guess there are similar syllables in Italian in Polish - spoken just maybe harder or faster only - like "BreSCia - "czeŚĆ"; "SUe" - SŁychać The tongue makes almost the same job anyway. As for Italians their Polish pronunciation almost always fools me they aren't foreigners. I have very sensitive ear "detecting" any accents and I can say that even Ukrainians - which have probably the most similar language to Polish - do speak ALWAYS worse Polish accent than Italian people do. This is strange but I never met any Ukrainian who I didn't "detect" after first sentence he is not a native although they very often speak better syntactically Polish than average Pole does . However their accent and melody seem likely to be impossible to definitely get rid off.
@luckyluckydog1234 жыл бұрын
@@JesusMagicPanties I do agree that Polish and Italian have many common points in pronunciation (similar vowels etc), but I think you're overstating the point. I mean, I speak Polish but I can clearly hear my foreign accent when I hear recordings of myself :) In my limited experience Ukrainians do often keep a very recognizable accent, but that's probably because they don't feel the need of a 'perfect' accent and, perhaps, it's also a matter of self-identifications; however, in terms of phonetic system, Ukrainians are in a considerably better position to speak Polish with a good accent than Italians (if they want to learn it). See eg a few seconds of this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYnXo6aZp8eCfM0 . The younger person has been in Poland for two years and speaks practically without foreign accent, the older one has a very obvious accent. ps Brescia it's pronounced Bresza and in 'słychać' the difficult part is not 'sł' but 'ych'.

I think the argument "Why learn a language that is only spoken in one country, you will never have a chance to use it?" is no longer valid. People travel so much these days and work in different places. The chances that you meet a native speaker are much higher than 20 years ago. Especially, if it's a language spoken on your continent.

Afaik other "popular" destinations are among others Ireland and Norway. BTW I hear Dutch are really good with English and you can easily get along without knowing any Dutch. I've also heard it's a beautiful and amazing country (I have two friends who studied at TU Delft). I'm considering starting bachelor degree at TU Delft - any tips on idk what to learn or what kind of Dutch could be useful? I live in Germany now and my German isn't the best but it's sufficient, I honestly cannot imagine living in a country whose language you don't speak, long term wise.

@@Kasiarzynka hahahah yeah this is completely true, i think only 10% of the people i have met in all my life don't speak english. Plus i think most dutch people are way more friendly to foreigners than our own people, so that probably makes you feel very welcome if you would come live here. When i learn a new language i find the easiest way is just to look up the 1000most used words, then learning 20 of those words everyday. That's only 50 days of learning. Then the grammar you can learn easiest by just living in that certain country, in my opinion. Speaking with natives, if you know 1000 words that shouldn't be to difficult

My native language is Russian. Last year I took a Polish A1 course at my uni just because I love languages and Poland is our neighbor (i live in Berlin). Now I finished my A1 course and I can understand the most of the thing you guys are talking about. I want to jump straight to B2 next semester (before that I will watch some videos in Polish and also use DuoLinguo to be prepared haha). I would say 70%-80% of vocabulary is similar/the same as in Russian. The grammar is very similar although the Polish grammar is more conservative hence (a bit?)more complicated. I'm also planning to play The Witcher 1 completely in Polish soon (text and audio). Just to learn Polish even better and to discover this universe, never played/read/watched The Witcher before. What is my motivation? Well, probably the fact that I can learn a new language so quickly and so easily. I feels cool. The quick success is my motivator. And it's also nice to discover one more culture. I want to spend in Poland some time, maybe do volunteering or work for several months. Polish is my sixth language. I speak perfect Russian, English and German. Currently doing my B1 course in Spanish and French. Gonna start learning Norwegian next semester.

For me personally, Polish has been more difficult than my C1 level of Chinese, it's harder to listen and translate in my head because the words run together with harder differentiating sounds, where Chinese is tonal and naturally the words sort of separate. (Nevermind writing!)

I am currently learning polish because I love this language but polish cases are so horrible and hard to manage 😭😭I cant know all the endings that exist 😭😭
@JudgeHill4 жыл бұрын
Focus on a case at a time and get lots of practice - lots of drilling, lots of frequently-used phrases, and a few key phrases you’ll always remember so that when you’re trying to remember the tense endings you can fall back on how your “memory phrase” is declined. “Mam fajnego brata” is one I used to remind me that masc accusative adjectives end in -ego and that masc animate nouns take -a at the end.
@_Killkor4 жыл бұрын
As people above say - do it step by step. Do each case separately. Practice with one case at a time, use in examples, use it in speech. Only move to the next case, when you get ahold of how the previous one works. In the end, try doing more cases together (2 at a time, 3 at a time, 4 at a time, ...) , until you can use all of them at once. It will work. Good luck :)

@simply_julia4 жыл бұрын
I'm unsure if I understood your problem correctly (I suppose you meant reading out loud, correct me if I'm wrong), so this may be a useful or may be a terrible piece of advice, but if I struggle to say a word, even in English as I'm a Polish native speaker, I just try to picture it in my head, how it looks like and slowly pick it out. Soon, you'll just remember it by yourself. If you read a word, maybe try to memorize the pronunciation for later, or keep revising it. I don't think there's other specific methods to do that, as it just pops in at one point.

Bardzo ciekawy program. What I see often poses a difficultly in pronunciation is what I would describe as a rollercoaster of sounds, e.g. ż (like in French bon_J_our), ź, ś and sz (sh). So for example in the mentioned word DOŚWIADCZENIE, during mental preparation to pronounce correctly the "CZ" (ch) sound, the preceding "Ś" is pronounced incorrectly as SZ (sh). What helps then is reversing the order -- WIADCZENIE, then DOŚ. Saying this several times in a row makes the word sound correctly. (Of course the "D" in this particular case sounds like "T", as even Polish is not fully phonetic). For a foreigner living in Poland wanting to start learning Polish even basic skill opens a wealth of possibilities, beginning with the perception of wanting to integrate to some degree, as opposed to isolating oneself from the flow of life around.

To super metoda!
@christopherlad69443 жыл бұрын

Pozdrawiam.

You can survive without Polish but it's definitely much easier when you know at least the basics. You can't really on even young people speaking English. It's always a lottery they can speak great English or not all. Polish people really appreciate when you try to speak Polish. Completely different mentality to Germany where they expect you to speak fluent German from day one.
