There was not that much variety in the missions. The best thing about Spiderman was the swinging, and story, after that it becomes very meh. Now if you look at Batman Arkham Knight. The variety of that game is in spades. Especially once you finish the main story.

For me it was the story. The comics have unfortunately been terrible for several years now and I’m one of those few people who just never cared for Tom Hollands “Iron Man jr” take on the character so there hasn’t been much Spidey content for a while that I enjoyed. Then in middle of this drought came the PS4 game with an older, more experienced Spider-man with most of his classic villains appearing. It was like a classic take on the Stan Lee era of comics through a slightly modern lens without loosing what made the character and his stories timeless

This game introduced me and made me love Miles' character. He's just a really good person, not a bit of pretentiousness with his personality. We get tangible representation of his intelligence, we get to see a heavy focus on his relationships with the people in his life, and while his own game was pretty disappointing, the story had some pretty strong moments. Freaking hated what they did to him in Spiderverse, felt like a whiny, arrogant child.

I also loved the tiny skill-based realization - in the prologue you beat the living daylights out of the goons. Then as you progress and learn more how to play as Spidey you find out that you can be more effective and a pacifist (character-accurate) by hitting someone near a wall or making them fall and then shooting web on them to keep them in place. Replaying the prologue with that mechanical knowledge took me 1/3 the time of my first run.

Spider-Man immersed me in the role, same with the Arkham series, you feel like Batman. I think both just have nailed the super hero game formula. The combat just feels so damn good. Granted Spidey just feels so much better to web swing around the absolutely gorgeous NYC, and the scale of the city is incredibly realized.

Spider-Man was the whole reason I got a PS4. I was dying for more Spider-Man games to play and when I seen it drop in 2018 I was convinced I needed one. I was an Xbox player but Spider-Man almost immediately made a PlayStation player. I bought the PS5 for the sequel and I will stay a PlayStation player as long as they keep dropping more Spider-Man games or just stuff to keep me interested. I bought the PS4 game for the ability to play as Spider-Man, but the story and photo mode as well as the variety of suits kept me so interested in the game I had to buy the remaster the day it dropped as well.

One of the things that makes this game so great is the pacing. Of course everything mentioned in the video is absolutely true, but man, the pacing is perfect, you never get bored. Swinging around is great, combat is awesome and punching random enemies on the street feels rewarding (while getting some nice xp for suits), getting all the collectibles is also fun, every backpack has a little fun story, side missions are engaging and pretty deep but never feel too long, and when you stop messing around and decide to continue the story the game doesn't stop, the flow keeps going and going with the help of great music and atmosphere. You wanna keep playing because every minute of gameplay feels worthy of your time, not a simple sign of grind. Never a dull moment, it's very carefully crafted and that's the reason I've gotten the platinum trophy three times without feeling tired (PS4, PS5 and again on PS5 with my second account).

I have always wanted one thing in a Spiderman game: web contact. I want to web a building in the air to the right, then swing under a bridge, crane, or even street light, then have the web line actually make contact with the pole/bridge, and it just SHOOTS you into the air. Like it needs to give you a speed boost like it would in real life. This could also help with better turns around the corners of buildings. The moment you turn around a corner, your web connects, and you get shot around with bonus momentum (depending on where your web impacts the corner).

You can clearly see that the system will still hold up. This game is the reason I bought a PS4. A friend of mine was playing it when I came over one night and after 30 minutes I handed him the controller back and immediately went to OfferUp and bought one for $200. I steamrolled through the campaign and the story rivaled many modern Marvel movies and is one of the few instances where I was bawling my eyes out at the ending. Spiderman 2 will probably be my GOTY at this rate.

I've put about 100 hours just into the Ps5 remaster of the game, Spidey is my guy -my favorite fictional character and with gaming being my passion, it feels so good finally having some all around great Spider-man games. Insomniac really gets it -its not enough to have just good swining mechanics, you need to marry it with excellent combat, a compelling narrative with deep characters, a New York that feels real and lived in. But it wasn't just that, Insomniac went above and beyond to give Spidey fans a version of the character we don't get in the movies or comics anymore, and it all just ends up being kinda perfect for the Spidey loving gamers like me. I'll never forget the final fight with Doc-ock on Oscorp, it gaves me chills, and losing Aunt May got me really emotional, and not many games have that kind of effect on me. Its a truly special game, and I booked off my Friday and Saturday shifts to play the sequel, here's hoping its just as good!

Spider-Man is my favorite hero, despite being scared of both heights and spiders. This game was amazing and made me feel like Spider-Man. It was extra special for me cause it was when my wife and I were first married, she had to go to conference. So I went too with my PlayStation and Spider-Man, just sat in the hotel for three days and played Spider-Man. It was awesome. The way they really got Peter’s character and how they did the story. Everything from the visuals, to the music, the action, the voice acting, the web swinging, the story, the side missions, it was just perfectly spider-man. And the game was just fun. well summed up. the love for this character absolutely shines through. he was my first favorite superhero some 50 years ago. i've soaked in comics and movies and games over the years too. but honestly for the first time since the mid 80s did a Spidey experience make me REALLY happy to be a spider-man fan. they did every character justice, from hero to villain to supporting cast. Total hats off to the crew responsible for JJJ's radio/podcasts that would break in and relate to the current situation, they had me really giggling. i think anyone, like myself , who lived in NYC could absolutely appreciate the clever ways they would reproduce landmarks and the vibe of each neighborhood. that was a bonus. you can just bask in the combat, or the story, or just explore between "crimes". over the past 5 years i've played through this game 8 times including the DLC on every difficulty level. it was a very easy game to understand the combat and just a joy to experiment with strategy, and mix it up. anyhooo. one heck of a game this is.

And I just loved plotting a course from my current location to the next quest and grabbing all the stuff along the way. Swinging mechanics still don't hit like Spider-Man 2 for PS2/GC. Spatial scale of the city vs. Spider-Man's size was much larger, and the acceleration, speed, and momentum made you feel like you were soaring and plummeting through the skyline. There's just much less possible airtime duration per swing, and some physics floatiness associated with Insomniac's titles. Still stellar in terms of an overall package, but I very rarely come back to get some zen-swinging action after work like I still do to this day in Treyarch's Spider-Man 2. 10:01 Once I scored the Scarlet Spider suit, I never swapped from Ben, lol!

Just adding another perspective here. I tried playing this game 3 times and always dropped it a few hours in. My main problems with it were the characters feeling too "modernized" and not like their comic book originals and also the gameplay being too "cutscene/qte" heavy. Character wise mary jane was the most obnoxious change and her gameplay segments were the nail on the coffin for me. Gameplay wise movement/swinging was done very well but combat felt derivative and the set pieces were so frequent and "hands off" that it didn't even feel like i was playing the game. I hope the next one will improve these aspects of the game but judging by the last one's success I'm not getting my hopes up

A maybe underrated detail in the combat system is the length of the button presses. Like square and triangle did different things depending how long you held them down. I really believe that’s what separated Spider-Man’s combat from the Arkham games

To me it was the steam deck compatibility. I would never play a superhero game if it wasn't for that. It runs and looks great, and is fun to play zipping around. Also, a lack of alternatives (Assassins creed behind ubisoft 💩).

One Spider-Man game I really enjoyed playing. The gameplay, combat, voice acting and story were all on point, not to talk of the dlc’s. Masterpiece 👏🏼

I was sold on it from the moment it revealed, but the moment it went seamlessly from the opening cut scene to the incredible web swinging, that's when I knew it was going to be one of the best Spiderman games to exist. Then the combat only further sealed that for me. Also came here to say that Yuri also voices Smoke in Mortal Kombat 1 for those of you who didn't know 😀

I 1000% agree with you. As a 35 yr old that grew up on Spider-Man, collecting the comics in the 90s. This game by far has the best Spider-Man story in my opinion. It’s so good.

Part of the reason i bought my ps5 was for this game, i didnt have any good xbox exclusives looking forward to so i made the jump. I LOVE this game. Gonna finish this then move to miles morales and maybe god of war after

This is my second favorite superhero game of all time sitting behind Arkham City. It was my second favorite game of 2018 sitting behind Red Dead Redemption 2 But it sits high in the list of my favorite games ever made. I've played through this game three times and all of the DLC once, and finally just played through Miles Morales I'm stoked for the sequel, but the thing that drives me to play through this game as many times as I did was a perfect combination of traversal, combat, and most especially the story. This is possibly my favorite Spider-Man story in any media. That's special to me because Spider-Man is in my top three favorite superheroes of all time and comics and superheroes overall were a huge part of my childhood This game was a dream come true and I am pumped for the sequel

Something about swinging through New York just feels satisfying. 2018 Spiderman swinging just feel like... Flying yourself. Can't wait to feel it again in the new Spiderman!

My favorite suit was the cell shaded, comic book accurate one. Though i couldn't really wear it until post game, because i COULD NOT take anything seriously with that suit compared to the rest of the animation.

Definitely 1 of my favorite games ever & i replay it alot. I pre-ordered Spider-Man 2 last night. Im knocking out the dlc now & just preparing for the new 1

There are a lot of games releasing this winter, but I’ve arranged my entire gaming schedule around Spider-Man 2. It’s the reason why I haven’t started Starfield, or Baldur’s Gate 3, or even the Cyberpunk dlc. Spider-Man gets priority.

For me it was how after you (think you) wrap up the story and the game is about to end, BAM! It honestly felt like I played a second game after the prison breakout and the Sinister Six stuff. SO GOOD!

The open world sandbox gameplay made it for me Despite the repetitive side missions, the wide range of gadgets and combos you can use, made each replay dynamic Additionally, the world itself was busy and engaging. There was always something going on

I really enjoyed back when we were waiting for the last couple of Marvel Avengers movies to drop and had a new type of commercials and marketing the game every two months over a year's time. I enjoyed all the trailers.

This game was amazing when it came out because after decades of waiting we FINALLY got a proper spider man game that people have been waiting for. All the spider man games that came before did have some good qualities to them (I quite liked shattered dimensions) but most of them didn't really surpass spider man 2.

I haven't preordered a game in over 5 years, just preordered Spiderman 2, watching this gave me a hankering lol
