A review of the 680-series of over and unders by Beretta. From the manufacturing techniques, to information on why the barrels, receiver and wood are so special, to an explanation of what makes Beretta's over and unders point and aim so instinctively.

My old BL-4 is the most comfortable shotgun I've ever shot. It's like it was made for me. Also an amazingly beautiful, well-made gun. Nothing lines up the barrels, with my eye as automatically as a Beretta O/U. :)

Just received a Beretta 680 unsingle trap gun made in the early 1980's. This gun has had at least 40,000 rounds put thru it and still locks up tight and still functions flawlessly. The early 680 series guns were built like a tank. Not sure about newer ones.

Perazzi all the way when it comes to over and unders. The day I traded my 682 for an MX-12 my life changed, and well over 400,000 rounds later I'm still loving it. I like my Beretta 390 though ;)

The silver pigeon is a great all-around gun at a solid price. You might also want to shoulder the SV10 Perennia, to see how you like it. The advantage of the SV10 is that it has a recoil-reduction system and a quick stock adjustment feature, but it is a little higher in price.

687 with my father, maybe 150000+ rounds in 20 years, two lower barrel striker pin changes. it is my ...arm extension, even though it's my father's gun. between us, about 60+ national championship medals shot (only 10 mine)

So I'd say it kinda sucks, father bought this at a discount, cause the first owner had shot 200 shots, and was of the opinion that you can't hit anything with that.

The 391 and the Silver Pigeon are different animals. Any semiautomatic shotgun will have less recoil, since some of the recoil is used to cycle the rounds, and some more is absorbed by the bolt cycling. Over and unders will always have more recoil, but it's part of its appeal :) Here are dealers: LEGENDARY GUNS, INC. 5130 N. 19TH AVENUE SPORTSMAN'S WAREHOUSE 19205 N. 27th AVENUE SHOOTERS VAULT 3202 E. My loved my Beretta 686 20/28 combo until it fired both barrels simultaneously with 20 gauge 3" magnum heavyshot loads. Did this twice and not only broke my ring finger, but cracked the wrist of the gun as well. Still trying to get that repaired. Unable to get much help through the Dallas Gallery where I bought the gun. And call to Beretta USA about a replacement stock did not give me any confidence either.

Any progress on my video request. I like to see how you would recommend taking off the stock and getting to the trigger mechanism as well as how to care for the ejectors and anything else that is beyond the simple cleaning. Also what time frame either measured in shells fired or in time when one should do a more in depth cleaning/ lubrication.

I've got a 680 I use for trap competition all over the country. Its the most reliable gun I've ever used. I had to shoot in a shoot-off last summer in 60 mile per hour winds with heavy rain. It was dreadful but I won so it's all good. Is it ok to dry-fire with the 680? We had a Beretta truck at my club (Silver Dollar Shooters Club in Odessa Florida) and he said the pins are thick so it's ok to dry-fire..

Thanks so much for your answer to my question. I felt I would never get to the bottom of this. Would this explain why it has a beaver tail fore end and not a schapble ( or what ever its called ) fore end. Im in.the UK market but was told it probably came from the Republic of Ireland. It Also has incredibly nice wood for this level of gun.

the fact is that for anyone looking for a hunting over and under (vs competition shooting) you cant buy a decent new over and under for under 1,500. But in that range its still about fit, fit, fit. If you pick up a 1979 Ruger red label and it happens to fit you better - it is a better shotgun than a new 2 or 3k Berreta, or Browning. The real question is why isnt every shotgun in the 2K+ range have a stock custom shaped for each customer? Seems like Drop and pull could be a made-to-order feature with a CNC machine.

There is no difference. The "S" denomination in front of the 680-series (686, 687, etc.) is sometimes used in Europe. "S" stands for "sovrapposto" (over and under, in Italian)

If you buy a beretta, you’ll wish you’d bought better. Get a browning ;) I would argue that the browning locking system is by far, more sturdy and robust than the two small pins that lock this beretta surely? Also with browning having a full cross pin to attach the barrels rather than studs in the beretta? Surely you cannot claim the beretta locking system is the strongest?!
