I'm in my mid 60's and I'm a pro at practicing niksen and didn't realize it! Something I realized the other day was I felt content. For some reason, in our society, feeling content seems to be frowned upon. Why, you could go to the gym, you could organize that closet, etc.. There should be NO guilt about feeling content and practicing niksen. Thank you for your lovely videos, I always find them comforting. ❤❤

We Dutch were once a truly stress-free and happy people. But for the last 20 years we have had a minister called Rutte. He has cut back on all facilities and subsidies. Everything has become extremely expensive and some people are now even short of money every day. month and can no longer buy food. Our children can no longer get houses because we are hardly allowed to build houses anymore because of nitrogen. Many people also no longer dare to turn on the stove in the winter because it is too expensive. People no longer dare to go to the dentist or doctor because care is expensive. My aunt was very demented, but there are no more retirement homes. She had to live in her house with severe dementia for a few years before there was a place for her in a nursing home. This minister, Rutte, has made other people who were already rich even richer. We now have a new cabinet, but it seems to take years before it gets much right again. Because of everything, there have been many dissatisfied people and crime, but the police are also in favor a large part has been cut back...children often go to school without food and the Red Cross sometimes has to help. At our school, children do not get a meal...no, 10 years ago the Dutch were very happy, now only the very rich Dutch people ... people who work on TV or have their own company. Everyone in our country hopes that our country will one day become the same as before, so a lot has changed since you were in Holland. People who can work and have a house are now taking often have to work multiple jobs to pay the fixed costs... but I really liked your video and photos and occasionally Niksen is healthy 😀

This is a sad turn around. So much in society depends upon the government and those who have been elected. Poor governing, poor management and the downward spiral affects the entire society. When a society begins to be dis-satisfied with poor and ineffective governance, crime follows. Hopefully this can be remedied and new and better governance will bring back the former satisfaction. History is filled with this revelation of the rise of a society when there is good order and good leadership. When a society erodes from within....it soon begins to crumble and fail. Renewal and new growth is always possible when there is reform and change. When a society is unbalanced....and the rich have no concern for those with less.....there is always the threat of breakdown and revolution.....(remember France...and "Let them eat cake!"

Well said thank you for sharing , socialized medicine & giving free “ stuff” ends by bankrupting the countries. I wish people understands this . Canada health system is suffering now if you need urgent care & can’t wait months or even year to see your “ socialized dr” you have to pay very high fees or come to the USA .

I was blessed to travel to many countries & lived in two different countries before ending up 36 years ago in the USA. Believe me when I say to you that you did not miss anything yes some countries are beautiful but in my humble opinion no country as beautiful as the USA & no people as kind & generous as the American people . I would not live anywhere else . And as for families falling apart after the parents passed away it happens so often unfortunately I have not spoken or saw my sister for 7 years & she lives 365 mile away from me in Canada. But she doesn’t want to connect with anyone her husband & two sons are more than enough for her , and I did not hear from our brother for over 10 years who lives in another country, I only hear from cousins that he is doing ok. We grew up very close in a very close tight loving family our father & mother were the strong glue after they were gone they chose to stop the connection I tried with no success. As the French say C’est la vie This is life my friend. May God bless you & always be with you 🙏❤️

Thanks Nanny. The art of doing nothing works for me b/c I nursed 2 husbands for a number of years. I was so weary for a long time and discovered that planning my day which included a fair amount of down time worked wonders for me. I rest looking at the trees, listening to the birds and talk quietly to Jesus. It's our special times each day. Love you guys.

Good morning! Enjoyed your video especially your trip to Holland. Our daughter-in-law is half dutch. Her father is Dutch and was born in Lynden Washington which is a town settled by the Dutch. My Great Aunt Phoebe Judson actually named and founded the town and a book was written from her diaries. "A Pioneers Search For an Ideal Home". My Grandmother and her twin sister were raised by their Aunt Phoebe. Aunt Phoebe also took in Indian children and raised them. There is quite a nice museum there with her story and artifacts. Beautiful little town and warm wonderful Dutch people. Love them. Always love to hear your stories. 🥰✝️

Good morning Nanny and Moose. I loved this video because knowing some countries in Europe relatively well, which I had the happiness of visiting with my husband during the 80s and 90s always by car I had the opportunity to experience not only the life of the big cities but also the small towns and the lifestyle of each country we visited. I also really liked Belgium and Holland and I also made a small collection of small Dutch porcelain figures that I really like. The large tulip fields and the windmills were my charm. I didn’t know that the Dutch are the happiest people, but I think things have changed a little since last century when everything was calmer and more polite. I loved your photos, I loved the garden and the flowers, the jasmine is fantastic, I love the smell of it, I can’t help but say it every time I have the opportunity to visit it in your company. Thank you Nanny for these pleasant moments in your company. Love you. God be with you all.

I think I could "Nixen" Nanny. Sounds good to me. Makes me want to visit Holland. The tulip fields look beautiful! You're so fortunate to have traveled extensively in years past. Many wonderful memories. When I was a teenager I lived in Copenhagen, Denmark, with my parents, another happiest country on earth. At least it used to be. I also traveled to Sweden. Visited castles and saw a lot of Scandinavian design I remember. Not to mention all of the different foods like open faced sandwiches, danish pastries, and desserts. I remember at a nearby pub in Copenhagen, the chef made us hamburgers and french fries, in case we missed them from home. He tried to make just like in America, but they tasted European style, which was fine with me. He served the fries with bearnaise sauce instead of ketchup. Lovely. Mmmm. Anyway, a good memory. We did have a lot of fun and interesting times while living there. Travel is a wonderful thing. Broadens people's horizons. Thank you for the video. Take care and have a great rest of your week. See you in the next video.♥️🌷🗼🏰🕍🕌🥐🍟🍔🇳🇱🇩🇰

❤❤❤ I have been part of your virtual family for 9 months now and this is my favorite video thus far! After watching the video I said out loud, why can’t I give a 2 thumbs up, I then put both hands up to make my thumbs up for this awesome video! The lifestyle of the Dutch practicing Niksen is what got me. I plan on practicing this lifestyle very soon. Delegating the watering of the garden to your Moose was a very wise decision to free up some time for you. I’m reading a book called Anti-Time Management and the author mentioned about delegating, outsourcing and elimination to free up some time for people. I am in search of some pointers to have some time for me, just vegetating. Even though this book is for entrepreneurs I am continuing reading it get even just a couple of pointers to free up some time for me. Your beautiful garden is the perfect ambiance to practice the Niksen lifestyle! I could just see you and your Moose birdwatching and listening to them! Now that is Niksen! ❤❤❤

'Niksen' pronounced to rhyme with listen. Wish I could visit the Netherlands before it is too late! High taxes, but health care, age care, and education are free. And you can study for as long as you like! Edit: Sorry I was wrong - 'niksen' indeed rhymes with Nixon. Much to my surprise!

Hello Dear Nanny! Oh....what a lovely video. Loved the chat about the Dutch and Niksen.....Yes, we could learn a lot about just taking time to reflect and slow down....I shared with a friend this concept....especially as we age....to just 'be'....to slow the pace and enjoy the special moments. Too many folks .....especially our younger generation are in such a fast-paced life style to rush through life in the never ending search to get things done, to acquire 'things'....money and position. I am reminded again of the simple truth of the parable of" the Lilies of the field"....they toil not, neither do they reap....but even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed as such as these!" I am learning the concept of Niksen...to slow the pace, to be in the moment for each moment will pass and not return. I was privileged to travel to Holland and see many of the sights you have mentioned....The tulip fields and especially Keukenhof Gardens were just beautiful. I tell young people to travel....to see the world and experience the different cultures....but to also take time to balance life with the concept of Niksen...In the quietness of being still in the moment we find a special peacefulness and regeneration of spirit. I look forward to more videos of your travels throughout Europe while living in Scotland. :)

In the 1960s I was an au pair and traveled with the family whenever they wanted their little girl along. In Europe, after visiting several countries we settled in South of France for 3 months. We then came back on the Queen Mary. A wonderful experience in itself. My employer had this own 5 passenger plane and sometimes we went to spend time at one of their home in Nantucket, Mass. Only one little girl, and I had plenty of off time. With only one I could do a lot. Your au pair was smarter then I could have been. Lol😂 Lovely video. Thank you.

So have given up my son and his family are in the South and his Jasmine’s grow beautifully , I’m in the North however tried a couple of times , you know when you want something it drives you mad when can’t get it growing ha well try some clematis as they grow fine here I do have a magnificent one the flowers are huge I’m like you I love flowers everywhere , as not very good with my illness so things I do take a while to do , so not getting much time for watching videos as busy with my garden but try to catch up with what your up to when get some time , nice to see your seating area coming on nice , and the corner curtains will just add to it I’m sure your such a busy Bee 😁 I’m like you I’m thinking of my next job before finished the job I’m on however I’m off to do more in my garden you and Moosie enjoy all you do lots of love and take care of yourselves and Shamu 💕💕🥰

Nanny, this is a terrific video. Learning so much from you thismorning. I think I've been doing Niksen and didn't even know it. However, I will try practicing Niksen now that you are teaching it. Your garden is beautiful. Did you find the perfect watering hose for Moosie?

Hi from Annie, you both have had some lovely times travelling very lucky to see so many places, I have not been anywhere outside Australia. I don't have the resources to travel sadly and no one to travel with either. When I wsa a teenager 16-17yrs old I went to Melbourn with my adoptive father then just after mother passed and he drove over there to see his Polish cousin and family it was a 8hour drive from Adelaide to Melbourne then. That is the only time had been out of the state and went to Melb on train as a 6yr old to his cousin then as well. But have seen a few small towns around this state back in those days. Last time I went on a little holiday was about the time when my daughter was 5yrs old I was 25 then we went with friends to a couple beaches south of this state we drove and camped it was nice. Not been anywhere since and can't believe so many years have just flown by. When I hear all your travel stories I am really amazed, gosh you have had a great life together. You have had love of a good man and your family loves you both so much. I have not had the love of a good man as yet still hoping at 65.... had the wrong men in my life that could not be faithful in love etc sadly but I learnt a lot from it all. I have one daughter an only child and three grandkids whom I have not seen or heard from in over ten years now due to my daughter getting married to her husband number two who is an awful abusing man, he brain washed them all against any family and old friends etc. Has caused so much heart ache and loneliness. It look very hopeless at times life does these days, I wish my health could be better too. It seems you have more up and go than I have even thou I am 65, I really should be in much better health, but stress is the culprit for sure, and I worry too much about everything, silly me. My mother was a person who worried all the time and I think I learnt that from her over those childhood years. Well God bless you both enjoy that garden here I have paid for Jasmine like your over 420 and more at a place called Bunnings it is like your Lowes garden centre sort of it is a big business here in Australia there is a Bunnings in every state. I have spent so much money on plants from there that have not always grown as they should and had to replace few plants often.

What a great vlog! I have always wanted to visit Holland, but at age 71,I don't think it's going to happen. My husband is from Greece, so we spend the month of August there, but when we were younger we didn't have the time nor money to travel while in Greece, now that we have the time & money, we don't have our health!!! We will be going to Greece again this August, I so enjoy sitting on his ancestral family's porch looking over the fields,& hearing the farm animals & birds,it's my favorite spot in the whole world, so I guess I was experiencing Niksen long before I had ever heard the word!❤

Hello Nanny, what a wonderful video. I have planned to do my traveling after I leave this earth. I am an American and very blessed to have been born here. I know our country is filled with those who have their personal agendas. We are the target of our enemies. So now its seems I (we) will be traveling without the use of airlines. My spirit will soar through in many different in ways that Jesus has prepared. It going to be awesome. Love you both!

Loved hearing about Holland and seeing your pictures! Did you find a garden hose? I am always in search of the perfect super long hose as my backyard has no sprinkler system and is huge ( we live on a culdesac which means my backyard is the largest pie shape…small in front but backyard shares fencing with 8 houses..it’s gigantic !) and right now since my breast surgery I can’t water so my husband is having to water it and he like Moose uses a rollator but is trying to water for me with just using his cane ( yikes!). I think in about another week I can take over again…I actually enjoy watering my yard, I listen to books usually while doing it…does that count as Nicksen time🤣? I’m always searching for the perfect nozzle for the hose too! Looking forward to more of your travel stories. ❤️❤️

Just curious Nanny how were you able to travel so many places with so many kids and even live there....maybe I missed it...did Moosie's job require it.. just wondering. I love heard about these places and after working hard for so many years i am having a hard time from trying to do nothing a few days a week...haha ..my mind is always nagging me. Cleaning, bills to pay, dealing with a bad medical system here in my State, house repairs are over the top, it all breaks again and finding smaller homes that cost more than where you are living, it seems there is no relief and no options. My husband is already gone before Covid and no family...I am ready to move there.... love this idea of Niksen. I do find life now more difficult than it needs to be.the System has us. Thank you.

I've been to Amsterdam, back in the '90's, interesting place but you didn't tell the whole story! Drugs and prostitution are legal and personal morals seems very low, there's a public park where people go to have sex in front of the whole world, they don't care who watches them. Lots of unhealthy looking pasty faced young people on bikes with no particular place to go. Glad I went to see Ann Franks' house and the tulips but I never want to go back.

@@crushingtheir80snannyandmoose Oh I had a wonderful time there, very beautiful, but those things like the Red Light District & free drugs are just sad, too much socialism. Yes, we have terrible things happening right here in the USA, have to find the silver lining daily. Thanks for sharing your memories, enjoyed it. 💜💜🙏

The Netherlands...Amsterdam is beautiful....and Yes, there are two sides to every story.....to a large degree....we can choose what want to see in the world....there will always be the disconcerting side....the ugliness of humanity and questionable ethics...crime and poverty. The world is messy.....even the most beautiful gardens have weeds....remember Eden! Finding a special place for contemplation and regeneration is so beneficial.....We can't change the ugliness of some parts of life, but we can plant a garden and share the flowers!
