I always had a general idea about pickups but never truly understood the in's and out's of it so this video is heaven sent (Dokken reference) to end the year on a high note

A good pickup is largely subjective and one that is suitable for what you want to play. I generally like high output pickups as I like to play a lot of metal or hard rock but I've also got single coil in my Strat and P90s in my SG Special. These are what I currently have access to and I like them all in their own way: - Seymour Duncan Sentient & Pegasus - Fishman Fluence Modern Ceramic - DiMarzio Super Distortion & PAF Pro - Bare Knuckle Boot Camp Brute Force (7 string) - PRS TCI 'S' - ProBucker 2 and Probucker 3 - P-90 PRO Soap Bar - Fender 4th Gen Noiseless Single Coils

It definitely comes down to what your ear likes and what you're trying to do. That's a well rounded collection you've got! You're ready for anything

I had a seymour duncan jb sh4 for a while, with my new guitar I have a combo Sentient / Nazgul. The Nazgul is very hot, I am not used with this, I didn't like the sound first. Very sensitive to small mistake, as said in the video. But with some sound tweaking, I begin to be OK, with it. Hopefully I will manage better my sound and be happy with it. I will dowtune in drop C or C# a month or two.

I just got a monarkh baritone and I like how hot the nazgul is for lower tunings got it in drop G#. At first I thought it was too trebly and not good for cleans but I tried it again and liked it. My other Jackson pro plus ht6 ms in drop C# with fishmans moderns. Love it too again didn’t really vibe with the thinned out brightness had tried them before on a different guitar but these were more of what I was expecting. Still don’t really care for the passive voice. Then my Ibanez rgd has dimarizio fusion edge which are possibly the best most balanced passive that I’ve tried. Especially for it being a 26.5 scale in drop C

Nice! It does take some adjustment to your playing and your sound but you'll be pleased with the results soon, that's an awesome pickup combination!

@@paulcarter105 Great pickups and guitars. Have to admit I never use the passive voice on the fishmans too, and they do seem to sound best when tuned down like that

@@paulcarter105 Thank for your answer ! It's cool to have different beasts to play with :)

@@HighZ Thanks ! The first test on a new riff was muddy as hell, but it was better after some change of composition and some work on this riff to increase the precision :)

I got a new pickup for my seven string for Christmas - it has a hot signal and rolled off treble. Now I know why - it has more winding!

Gotta love the power of physics! Congratulations on the new pickup, can't wait to hear what you do with it! 🎸

Fishmans definitely have their strengths and weaknesses 😆 Excellent choices. I do miss having the 81/60 combination sometimes. Amazing pickup set

For me, a good pickup is one that maintains notes articulation even at high gain (that's what I play), like my favourite SD Pegasus/Sentient set. Or, a super versatile one like the immortal SD JB; it suits any gain level

Those are some pretty great sets from Seymour duncan!

I have a question; how do you combat getting dust all over your beautiful guitars? Do you simply clean them regularly or are there any precautions one can do to avoid getting the instruments dusty? (because yours are out in the open so to speak and not inside of cases)
@HighZ2 күн бұрын
I usually clean them off real quick before filming. When recording or practicing, I've just accepted they'll be dusty!

Have you tried Q58 pickups that are on Q series? It's very clear, bright, and at the same time, very balanced pickups, good low response too. Ever heard or tried?
@HighZ2 күн бұрын
I've heard of it but haven't had the chance to play a quest guitar yet! I certainly wouldn't mind trying it in depth one day if I could get my hands on one
