I'm just now dipping into the world of online ESL instruction (actually finishing TEFL cert and job-searching atm) and have to say, your videos are phenomenal, great inspiration, and comforting in a time of stress for myself! You're awesome!

I’ve just discovered that you have a channel and I’ve been binge watching it all day! Just finished my first week with iTutorGroup and I absolutely love it! I was worried about it not being in the physical classroom, but it turned out alright!

Good man! I raised my average rating a lot just watching a few of your vids and even got an award and lots of bookings lol

Wow, that was all you, bud! You had it all inside you, I just helped you unlock it. Haha. Congratulations though, for real. Which video/tip do you think was the most useful for you?
@cyclehavenbanks98514 жыл бұрын
Joe Milne I think it was the live recordings of lessons because I just borrowed loads of the techniques you use but kept my own style/personality which is how I learn best. I never really follow anyone telling me what to do 😂

Joe. Been with ITG about a year now. Great ratings from old and young. I got my first '1' this week and a nasty gram from the company and the student, a 8 year old blocked me for the future. In addition to messing up my average, I am "thankful?". It was a great wake up to me, that I can only do my best and my best may not be received in a way that I desire.
@JoeMilneEnglish4 жыл бұрын
I've been in your position. Bringing up my average was not easy, but it's doable. Keep at it. The more you teach, giving it your best, the less those out-of-the-blue low ratings affect you.

Well said! If we don't have those qualities that you mentioned in this video, then I don't think we're fit to be teachers!

Yes Joe, loving the videos. I was just wondering how to you make your videos blurry in the background and you focused, upfront very clear. I'm trying to my own videos on youtube soon. Just wanted a few tips.

It was a brief, powerful, and profound message. I agree and I could add empathy which is kind of related to cultural awareness but I really like to imagine myself in each student's situation. Even in the same culture there are different backgrounds, personalities, and family issues that we need to sense and understand, don't you agree? Thank you for sharing!
@JoeMilneEnglish4 жыл бұрын
I would've loved to add that too. Empathy plays a big part in the role of any teacher in the world, especially ones that deal with children. Thank YOU for sharing.

I agree with all these things but I feel so stressed at times because you can get a poor rating, 1 because a student thought I missed a page, 2 because the student answered one less question than another student - the list goes on and on!!!!!! I have years of experience and consider myself a pretty good teacher and endorse all the things you say in the video but the feeling of anxiety knowing that you may get a poor rating just because a student feels angered about the simplest thing just makes teaching with iTutor rather stressful and very draining! One is always on ones guard and never really relaxed!

I had my first lesson and I went over the time in both lessons and I feel like messed up because I was stressed. Do you have any tips for time management?
@JoeMilneEnglish4 жыл бұрын
To be honest, start wrapping up with 30 secs to go and get out on the dot. That's what I do. This might help also: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4LEl6Opr92UY5I

Hi Joe, I have just signed up to teach at iTutor and I have requested to start next week. it is my first online teaching job. When do you get to prepare for your classes? Are the lesson plans sent to you on advance?
@JoeMilneEnglish4 жыл бұрын
Hey, welcome to iTutorGroup! You'll be able to preview the material as soon as the lesson is scheduled, which is usually around 6 hours in advance, though it can be as early as a few days in advance and as late as an hour in advance.
