Mario ttyd almost made a perfect remaster. It added ways to go back to the worlds fast and more drops of items plus a new boss fight. Sadly they didn't fix chapter 2 and all that back tracking on top of the back tracking in the tree. Mario rpg was definitely amazing. They added more stuff to all the units and made mallow useful plus a bunch of post game battles where you have to be smart to beat them and actually have leveled your party. Plus a post post secret secret boss on top of it. Honestly when able. Give the dlc in base game. Touch up the graphics and the gameplay if something is lacking for a perfect game for me when able. That's all I ask for when wanting an older game to come back on new consoles

Resident Evil, for the most part, have nailed their remakes. -RE1 Remake is a fantastic upgrade over the original. Redone assets, Lisa Trevor, self defense items, new areas, new puzzles, etc. Almost have no reason to go back to the original unless you want to hear the cheesy voice acting. -RE2 remake takes the original, remixes the original game, and still keeps the remaining story. -RE4 remake does the same thing as RE2 remake. Takes the original, remixes the assets, and still keeps the same story overall. Not only that. It makes characters better. Luis died way too early in the original. Having him live longer by having you spend time with him in a whole section makes you appreciate him more. Ashley is way less of a spoiled princess as well. Not a remake we needed, but still a fantastic game. I never played any of the PS1 trilogy before playing the remakes. I agree with you 100% that Nemesis did not feel menacing at all in RE3 remake. He was too scripted. From what I've seen of the original 3, he's still kind of scripted, but he's much more menacing in the times he shows up. That, and cutting entire sections. It really shouldn't have been $60 USD at launch. I do want to do a playthrough of original 2 and 3 someday, just for comparison's sake.

I am not a "purist" when it comes to remakes but I feel for them. When they reimagine it you can get something great, but it also means you aren't getting that "remaster". FF7 is a great example - they teased a remaster for so long and when it finally came out it was something almost completely different. Is that bad? Not necessarily, just different. But you'll probably never get a straight remaster now.

I think the RE remakes are a perfect example of what to do and what NOT to do with a remake. RE1 was basically the same game as the og with everything in tact, but they added new enemies, mechanics, and made it look better (Great remake). RE2 was a great game that took the essence of the original, but removed some parts of it like ememies and changed the camera angle (good remake but pretty different game). RE3 removed a lot from the original, so much that there are actual areas that are absent. Even worse is that they made Nemesis less prominent (bad remake).

remasters that should be illegal: Games that released freakin YESTERDAY. LIKE DARN LET IT AGE AT LEAST! Let it mature to the unofficial age of remaster first! Favorite remaster is definitely Metroid Prime remastered for me. And remake? TRAILS IN THE SKY FC. EVEN IF IT'S NOT RELEASED YET. IT'S EXISTENCE ALONE MAKES IT MY FAVORITE AND I WILL PLAY IT AGAIN AND SUFFER AGAIN AT THAT ENDING! Everything about that initial trailer plus extra footage looked like it came out of a dream!

Dude, it's so insane that Sony released a Remaster of Until Dawn for the PS5 like... BRO YOU COULD STILL PLAY THAT GAME PERFECTLY FINE and it still looks good to this day! Like gee, I WONDER HOW THIS REMASTER COULD'VE POSSIBLY FAILED?

Clearly it's making the graphics look like they did in our childhood memory. Polished and beautiful

BDSP making pokemon fans go from asking for remakes daily into actively begging for no remakes ever again is very telling

With the only games original and remake wise I have played, Yakuza 1 + Kiwami and Yakuza 2 + Kiwami 2, I will say my experiences with both have been eye opening. Yakuza 1 + Kiwami I started with Yakuza 1 as my first Yakuza game on a PC that could run PS2 games well, but was not strong enough to run a more modern Yakuza game. I loved the atmosphere of OG 1 and 2 a lot more than their remakes, they knew how to do weather effects so well. Gameplay wise, 1 is not bad, but is very clunky and stiff (which makes sense since its the first game in the series), that it felt nice playing Kiwami. I will say that the Majima Everywhere system, while fun at first, does get grating later, especially since Dragon style abilities are tied to specific variants of Majima that spawn randomly. Bosses healing unless you have the Kiwami heat moves was another horrible decision. 1 having missable side quests was just bad game design that I am glad games past it got rid of it. Kiwami's best decision was adding the extra scenes displaying Nishiki's downfall and the flashback scenes during the final fight (why are there no pics from 0 RGG), solidifying him as my favorite antagonist in the series. All in all, I would recommend fans play both just for comparison, especially 1 having the undubbed patch so English speakers can experience it in Japanese (1's dub is still super funny so I don't blame people for wanting it during their playthrough). Yakuza 2 + Kiwami 2: OG 2 feels like a breath of fresh air compared to 1 (shocker for a sequel I know). I love the combat in this game a lot more compared to Kiwami 2. While the ragdoll physics are funny, I heavily prefer Yakuza combat like 3-4 did it. I did feel a lot of disappointment that they cut out Shinseicho in Kiwami 2. 2 and Kiwami 2 are my least favorite Yakuza games, so I don't have much more to say other than that. Remakes like the Kiwamis should always include the originals for both preservation and comparison. Kiwami is a better game than 1, while 2 is a lot better than Kiwami 2.
