Designed, built, and installed all my own cabinets. Everything turned out absolutely great.

Planning on doing the same as you. I always say: If you want something done right, do it yourself.
@GeoRedtick8 ай бұрын
@@AlexVidalD I was lucky enough to have a friend who has a cabinet shop that guided me along the way of building the cabinets. I didn’t previously have enough experience to be confident in my ability, but I am a quick learner and careful, and meticulous so I with his expertise, guidance, and occasional use of a specialty tool I don’t have I was able to do it. They turned out perfect, but to be honest I would rather have a few flaws in something I built myself then a perfect job I paid someone for. Less about the money saved and more about the sense of pride and the learning that comes from doing it yourself. I wish you the best in your project, I hope it turns out great for you!

Hi Mark. I’ve watched many of your videos, but when you mentioned cabinets finishes, it made me wonder, have you done a detailed cabinet video? Door styles, box and door materials, methods of assembly, finish materials and applications, etc.?

Yes, please!!

No, but it looks as if I should. lol. Thanks for the idea.

Ditto a request for this - although I fear it’s too late for us. I really wish I had found your channel about 6-9 months earlier! We had a major flood at our home while away on vacation and the entire bottom 1/3 (including all cabinets) had to be removed and replaced. It was an opportunity to do some “light” upgrades (at our own expense above an beyond what insurance would pay for) but because we were working with the mitigation/reconstruction contractor, we were somewhat restricted to their choices of cabinet subs. Now that they are installed, we really feel that the quality of the cabinets are not the same as our 30-year old Merillat cabinets which were used but not in bad condition. If I had been armed with even the small amount of cabinet manufacturing info in this video, I could have asked some pertinent questions! 😊 And I know I would have scheduled a one-on-one with you, Mark, to have you look at our proposed layout before we signed off on it. It mostly turned out well (we didn’t change a lot from the original layout) but there are a few things we could have done better with a professional eye guiding us.

Great point about considering what you like and don't like about your current kitchen.

Hi Mark, thanks for taking the time and effort with me on the design of my kitchen in Ireland, I had a little experience but Mark brought it to another level with his ideas and suggestions. Thanks Mark and I'll be sure to call on you again if the needs be.

Great content as always Mark! I'm always learning on your channel. Who knew that Post Catalytic Conversion was a thing with cabinet finishes? I only remember catalytic conversion when cars were switching from leaded to unleaded gasoline. Yes, I am that old. Great breakdown today. Thanks Mark!!

haha. It's probably too much info for a video, but you will absolutely stun any cabinet sales associate if you ask them if the cabinets they sell use Post Cat Conversion. haha. Just try it for fun sometime.

You are so right about good quality products especially for the cabinet build. We purchased a house that had cabinets by a popular company (ahem…ikea) and I have been aghast at how quickly the cabinet material is breaking and failing, and we’re an older couple so they are not having abusive use. We’re about to embark on replacing the kitchen and we are making sure to get better quality materials for the new build.

Hi Mark, Looking for ideas for small kitchens

Hi Mark, thanks for the great content. Was wondering if you’re planning to have an episode on german kitchens, Nobilia cabinets as an example. It seems they use particle boards, but they have good reviews + 25 years warranty. My wife and I are looking at different cabinet companies, and we really like the look of Nobilia cabinets, but not so sure about the quality. Would really appreciate any advice on this.
@MTKDofficial8 ай бұрын
Thanks for the content idea. I'll have to do a deep dive into Nobilia to see how it looks. There are a few great German brands to consider.
@shahabalahyaribeig75388 ай бұрын
@@MTKDofficial Thanks Mark. That’d be wonderful. I suggested Nobilia, because they’re quite active in US (more than other german brands) and Forms Kitchen also works with them. Love your content, keep up the good work.

The one thing I don’t like about the kitchen in my house is the cooktop/oven is too small. It’s only a 30 inch oven, and the burners are too close together. The kitchen is large enough to handle a much larger stove, but the previous owners updated the kitchen and put in the small stove.

Honestly, being in a first time kitchen renovation …frankly we were so overwhelmed by where we could place what more than what and how we could use the cabinets….my focus was mostly about locations of pantry, appliances and sink in the order of operations…but even now, there are plenty of regrets…could I have this in between space countertop be wider so my landing area can be more accessible next to the stovetop …etc…it was such a costly process, I don’t imagine I can afford another kitchen renovation in this lifetime 😅…plan away, but the contractor will still tell you …that is generally done this way! 😵

I paid $25K for kitchen cabinets, solid wood, plywood, plywood was stapled together 😡 I didn’t know they stapled plywood, I couldn’t do anything about it after I received them.

OMG! Mark, Mark, Mark! Where did you find that image at minute 9:00 on your video? It’s such a shockingly, appallingly bad design that I almost choked! If this is what kitchen design is coming to we would all be better off cooking over an open fire in a cave!

I enjoy your kitchen ideas! I live in a rental, so I'm . 'not planning a dream kitchen. This kitchen is a poster child for bad design . U shaped, 4 of those horrible corner cabinets 2 upper 2 lower. 2 small cabinets , 1 .above OTR microwave, 1 fridge. The microwave is very hard to reach for cleaning. Cast iron sink with 60/40 ish 2 bowls. The kitchen is about 10 x 13. Home built late 60s and remodel maybe in early 80s. It is difficult to reach the corners on the countertop.. So much wasted space. It is a good size, but ugly! Fridge is free standing. I laugh every time my kitchen has another feature you dis.
