New York and Skype acting-coach John Windsor-Cunningham in another video - free of commercials - for actors, here showing what makes some plays and films stand out, and makes us watch them for years. One apology: I was in a rush and l refer to the great actor Bradley Whitford as Bradley "Cooper": sorry! Some actors can MAKE a production be "great" by the way they work with the others, and this tries to explain how.

That's a great metaphor, not only for a play! You can apply the same concept on every team work: a rock band, a team doing a software project, even a family. Every time there is someone that has to do his/her very best but also to adapt to the other members, that's the no-cement-bridge!

Everything has to be well done and fitting to the whole artwork... giving sense to ALL the others stones... not repeating the same sense (that's redundancy) but (each one) ADDING something... Thanks to you, John Winsor-Cunningham. I am discovering (Oh! How mysterious are the forces of fate and fortune !) (Am I kidding ?) your... lectures ?... lessons ?... and it is as if I could have exciting exchanges about theatre.. and about creating something.

I also miss most messages here and am better found through the 'Contact' page on my website www.Windsor-Cunningham.com' if you really need more on this, but speaking truthfully and studying as long as you can is the answer to most things! Hi John! Thank you so much for all your videos!! it's very helpful :) this year i'm going to do auditions for drama schools (in Holland) and we also have to act in front of the camera which is something i've never done before. i do have a lot of experience in acting but not in front of a camera... do you have any advice? or could you make a video about it? thanx in advance!!!

Thank you--that was very helpful, and can have quite a broad application, I should think. It's about everyone doing their very best with what the've been given and then also seeing the very best in others, isn't it? Sort of like Ben Franklin's "All hang together or, assuredly, we'll all hang separately." Fantastic food for thought.

John Windsor-Cunningham they are helping a lot actually, as an actor, I’m in a play where my role requires a male British accent, and your videos have been helping tons. I’m actually going to recommend them to my cast mates.
@NewYorkActingCoach
@NewYorkActingCoach 4 жыл бұрын
Getting a perfect accent is not what maters - the audience won't know or care. What they want is for the actor to be involved in the role. Nobody admires an accent fr long, they want to listen if the actor is being true. And the 'attitude' of being British will effect a few of the lines - that is what matters. John Windsor-Cunningham

I like your video's a lot, they are very helpfull and inspiring. There was a new video uploaded very recently in which you describe the process of doing an audition for a very big theatre part and the waiting afterwards. You did it in a diary kinda way: day 1, day 2 etc. I thought that was brilliant but i can't find that video on your channel anymore. I was just wondering because i thought it was very interesting. Thanks, and have a good day John.

Thanks. I decided the video was too boring, too repetitive for people to watch, and a second video and evena third was going to be needed to tell the whole story, so I've re-thought the whole thing and am going to re-make it in a few weeks. Thanks for your interest, and patience watching it though. Very kind. JOhn(www.Windsor-Cunningham.com)

I thought about this question years ago in regards to great films. And my conclusion was the same as yours. All great movies seem to get all the parts right. It only takes one really weak aspect to a film to make it average or ruin the illusion. Great direction doesn't matter if the lead can't act and a great actor will find it hard to bring a terrible script to life...etc etc. This is why truly great, powerful and memorable movies are so rare. To bring together the amount of variables involved in making a film seems to be an almost transcendent feat of achievement.
@NewYorkActingCoach
@NewYorkActingCoach 5 жыл бұрын
You say "almost transcendant" and I've despaired of the idea of starting a whole theatre company myself, though Heaven knows I believe there's a need! And as age creeps on the number of chances to influence company - there being so few roles of worth for people of my age in most plays - I'm stuck with hopes of producing just one or two productions! So keep fingers crossed for me, and thanks for kind words. John Windsor-Cunningham.

@@NewYorkActingCoach it truly boggles the mind how a great film is ever made. Your videos are very interesting and consist of many gems of knowledge. I've always had an interest in film and as an extension of that, the magic of acting. I also wondered what the great actors were taught and who their teachers were. Are they just well trained or is there an element of x factor and innate talent involved as well? Obviously the way a persons face is put together, combined with their voice can give one a huge advantage.

Thanks ! I fear f I actually told that to a company they would all think I was 'demanding' that they each take responsibility for their part in the show, and in fact it's just meant to show that each of them all MIGHT be able to support the others. NO it'd sound too flowery. But, yes, I still think it's true! Thanks for noticing. John Windsor-Cunningham

I am a painter by profession, and the same principle applies; to paint a representation of an subject you have to report the characteristics of that object the best and the most clearly that one can. Neglect nothing, is what I was taught; if your subject is holding an apple, don't get lost in the accuracy of the portrait that you forget the apple's characteristics. Everything works together.

@NewYorkActingCoach

Well yes, but the director has to provide the strong ground for the actors to build on, and the 'trick' - or, perhaps. the 'mystery' of good casting ii.e. finding really good actors for parts in the first place is another brick in the bridge. Of course. John Windsor-Cunningham
