Please, make a video about different types of dialogues in movies. It really interests me how certain movies have very natural dialogue, while others present a theatrical type of dialogue.

Interesting. Cause when I used to think black and white movies I always imagined the whole "well listen here see" type of talking. But you look at something like Citizen Kane and the dialogue is very natural. Welles even had actors talk over each other (another innovation he pioneered!). You've got movies like Gone Girl where they meet at that party and talk so sophisticated and elegant and witty that it's almost distracting. Nobody talks like that! The winner has to be the Coen Brothers in terms of realistic dialogue. The Big Lebowski has characters stuttering and mishearing other characters. But that also raises the question: is realistic dialogue always good? I also think a great character is one where you can hear one of their lines and instantly think of them ("shut your freakin gob ok?"). I mean, does any character in any cheezy rom com have memorable dialogue? Not really. But Patrick Bateman in American Psycho? Everything piece of dialogue he says is so infused in his character. I'm just babbling here, hope some of this actually makes sense!

It's like saying Paul Blart: Mall Cop is twice as good as Godfather: Part 1 if you watch it 4 times in a row. Which it is. If you watch Paul Blart: Mall Cop 7 times in a row it's better then Citizen Kane, The Godfather and Gone With The Wind combined.

BEST FILM OF ALL TIME: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly: 1) Not only one of the most memorable, but emotionally satisfying and creative scores 2) Excellent storytelling 3) great commentary on war, Civil War, America, the Western genre, and human experience 4) perfect balance of tone (energetic when it needs energy, suspenseful when it needs to be suspenseful, sad when it needs to be sad, makes you laugh when it is funny) 5) excellent characterization 6) Beautiful mise en scene and cinematography

Yes! Yes! Yes! It's THE MOVIE that make me love movies. Before that I only watch rom-coms and superheroes movies (still do!), but in Inception, I'm introduce to a different world. After Inception, I try to watch movies with from genre, other greats I used to shove off because it looks difficult, and even smaller films. I just love Christopher Nolan and Inception for that discovery!

I think he touches on "Viewer Theory" here a little. I went to see Rutger Hauer's "Hitcher" alone - by no means a great move. But I had been picked up by a crazy when hitching while young and had an emotional flashback in the theater. The first time I saw "Edward Scissorhands," my reaction was "meh... stereotypical Hollywood insider's cartoonish depiction of the world." Years later, I re-viewed it and then I thought, "Is Tim Burton mocking his fellow Hollywood insiders' views of American life?" That increased its value to me threefold.

You make great points therefore I have always had a distinction between greatest and favorite movie of all time. For example Ace Ventura didn't change anything in movies or is a particularly good made movie. But it is my favorite comedy of all time because it shaped my sense of humor and I love that character. He is so out of touch with reality and doesn't care how he behave among people, I've always admire that.

I tirelessly searched for a VHS copy in the 90's, and I still have it. yes, I still have a VCR to play it. I've seen it over 10 times and it actually holds up very well to today's films. Kinda of nostalgic since the World Trade Centre was a key part of the film. "You are the Duke of New York, and A number one!"

My favorite (or at least one of my favorites) is Trainspotting. It's probably one of the greatest representations of addiction ever put into cinema. It's also uses narration perfectly (mostly used to tell what the character is thinking rather than explaining the entire plot). Back to the addiction part, even though it's about heroin addiction, it can resonate with anyone struggling with that sort of issue. The toilet scene basically explains everything. Or maybe I just have a thing for these grunge, underground, 90's films.

I started with anime (series) not long ago. Then I started watching Shinkai's movies, and then I passed to Hayao. That's where I am right now. I KINDA like Shinkai's movies a little more, they really grab my soul and play with it for months after watching them (specially "The children who chase lost voices" because I watched it at the precise moment in my life). They're like closer to reality than Hayao's, and therefore, easier for me to understand. But one of the best quotes i've heard in the past years comes from "Spirited away": "Nothing that happens is ever forgotten, even if you can't remember it." That just blew my mind.

I've been off and on with someone, and ever aspect of Tom and Summer's relationship exemplified everything I've been through. The end of the movie made me realize there is hope, moving on is the best because someone else is out there waiting for me. I cried many times throughout the film, tears of happiness, sadness, remorse, guilt, enlightenment.. With that being said, I want to thank you for the advice in watching 500 Days of Summer. Thank you for the great content.

In all seriousness though stand by me is my favorite movie. I find myself reflecting on it everyday. Even reading the book it was based upon is like an extension of how friendships can make such an impact on your life. It's got incredible acting, plotline, score and soundtrack, and I even love the costumes not gonna lie. It's odd how the characters have such specifically bad circumstances yet a huge range of people can relate to it, even though it's about boys as a girl I can still relate to it. I feel like my life has changed since I saw it.

Could you make a video about the great WW2 movies, like the longest day, the great escape, saving private Ryan, letters from Iwo Jima, the thin red line, the bridge on the river Kwai, a bridge to far. If you do, please make sure not to put only american movies, but also french movies, like days of glory, "nuit et brouillard", is paris burning, the crime army. Maybe german movies, like downfall, are danish movies, like 9 april.

Ik im pretty late but wow. I have never agreed more. Whenever i watch a movie that in anyway affects me personally, it will automatically be put as my favorites. Sometimes, i dont even know why or how it affects me but it does. Heres an example. The movie bird box, a movie i never EVER thought would affect me, did. I had that movie in my head for literally a week,i sometimes got distracted thinking about the movie. There are so many other movies that are just such simple movies,yet, i will think about them for monthes. Btw, 500 days of summer is one of my favorites too! Also, this is literally one of the best channels i have ever encountered, thank you for expressing and teaching the art of movies and cinematography.

My favorite movie is Disney/Pixar's WALL-E, and I consider it "great" for several reasons--the artful communication of emotions and motives without dialogue, the animation that successfully imitates live-action-filming errors, the frank discussion of happiness vs. purpose vs. fulfillment, and personally, the pure optimism and idealism--the idea that if you give people the chance to step up and do good, they WILL; that it doesn't matter how far we fall, all it takes is one person to believe that the world is better than everyone else does, and we can make a comeback--deeply resonates with me.

Pretty dope, and in many ways it innovated in the same way that Citizen Kane did. Certainly a narrative ground-breaker in the way the stories mirror each other, but if I were making a list of desert island films I don't think it would come up until I got past my top 100. Still a damn good film though.

2 years ago I was in a rut in my life. Working 2 boring jobs, not really going anywhere, spending my free time daydreaming about doing something cool. I watched Ben Stiller's "Secret Life of Walter Mitty" (yes I'm aware it's a remake, and no I still haven't seen the original) and 2 hours later I booked a flight to travel Vietnam. I've been living and working in Nam for nearly 2 years and I've never been happier. Objectively, the movie is pretty average (Although it has some stunning visuals), but as you say in the video, "it was exactly the movie I needed to see at that time in my life" and it has completely changed the trajectory of my life for the better, so to me it's a great movie! Cheers Mr Stiller!

I am so happy you brought up my all time favourite movie: (500) days of summer, that movie changed my entire perspective on love, and what it means to love someone, since it presented a warped fantasy rather than a real truly loving relationship, and I think it was executed perfectly. i love 21 jump street because it actually spoke to me. when i started high school, i had all these thoughts about what high school would be like. i imagined going to school football games, hanging out at the cool kids lunch table, having a hot cheerleader girlfriend, etc. etc. but to my surprise, i realized high school (at least my high school) was nothing like how the media portrays it. that's why i loved the first day of school scene where Channing tatum and Jonah Hill get their first look at how high school has changed. this scene alone makes them so relatable, and the movie only gets funnier.

For me it was a visual representation of white noise. It could have been great. Not sure what happened, but I think they got in the editing room and the B-roll of practical effects way over shadowed the movie and instead of taking a comprehensive view and cutting a little - they used every practical effect they had. For me, this just further hit the skids on an already slow plot. I'm sure they cut a lot of great dialog and acting to fit in the B-roll, taking away from the the plot and the overall theme - but the effects were awesome even if character development suffered. Made it a good, but not great, movie.

Personally, I don't really like Citizen Kane, I mean it has nice cinematography, good dialogue and I'm sure it was revolutionary at the time, but there's nothing much to it, the story is downright boring and goes nowhere. Some rich guy who started a newspaper and became rich and had marriage troubles and was depressed? There's very little to enjoy about that. I thought that the 'rosebud' thing would lead to something bigger, initially I thought it could have been a gang related thing, or at least some small clue hinting at something much greater, no it was a sledge. I actually felt insulted watching it, this legendary movie with great characters, dialogue and cinematography, hailed by many to be the greatest movie of all time had a sledge as the main plot driving element? Not even one he had much personal attachment to, in fact it was one he neglected as an unwanted birthday present, symbolically showing that he preferred being with his parents than his new adopter. I found it boring.

***** Could you explain that to me? I don't really want to waste that kind of time on something that will only bore me. I guess Kane had that empty feeling or whatever, anything from childhood would be worth maintaining?
@Ekul876
@Ekul876 8 жыл бұрын
If I'm getting it right then the film essentially a mystery about the meaning of Rosebud and it is about the fact the only thing that Kane ever loved was a sled called Rosebud. Which is a tragedy that despite all his wealth and fame he never had someone that he loved as much as that sled, as it reminds him of youth where he was truly happy. He fills his mansion full of extravagant things as way to fill the void of never having someone to love and be loved by.
