John Wayne is horrible. I can understand why ppl like him, but as far as acting goes, he’s corny

Americans didnt have much love for the french when they tried to assimilate every french speaker between 1860 and 1960 in New England and Louisiana. Hollywood perhaps. America ? You got it backwards. Everytime an french person (or worse, french canadian) is portrayed in cinema, he's either a killer, a murderer, a snob, a duplicitous evildoer or a naive clown.

The puss in boots scene always makes me cry every time I see it because I had extreme social anxiety for a while and trained my own dog for service to help prevent panic attacks in public with deep pressure therapy and blocking behaviors used to create space. And that is exactly what it feels like. They pull you back. Just by being there. Their warmth. Their weight. The softness of their fur. Knowing they're quietly there and want to help.

They come from all the native Bostonians, none of whom actually live in Boston itself, but all these Massholes live in the greater Boston area - aka the rest of Massachusetts and half of the rest of New England, while Boston is a multicultural hub.

there’s a reason the dolly zoom is so cliche when portraying anxiety because, suffering from attacks myself, let me tell you that the dramatic sinking feeling you get right as it begins to happen feels EXACTLY like what a dolly zoom looks like

Right off the bat you make the mistake of claiming South Boston is THE historic Irish enclave of Boston. It is not. Many early Irish immigrants settled in the North & West Ends. South Boston was originally planned as a rich suburb BTW. South Boston was & to a certain extent still is Lithuanian, Albania & Polish as well as Irish & a few others. These films are a fiction, they created a stereotype that has run amok. I had to laugh when you showed clips of East Boston & the inner harbor claiming it was the divide, the Charles, between South Boston & Cambridge. I would recommend going a little further back into the history of Boston movies. "The Verdict", "Charlie", "Six Bridges" to Cross & "The Last Hurrah" to get a little idea of the history of the WASP/Immigrant conflict in Boston. It has more to do with Beacon Hill than Cambridge. "Charlie" in particular is an amazing snap shot of the rich/poor divide at a moment in Boston's long history; the historic Progressive "we know what's good for you" attitude.

I’ve lived here for 61 years. It’s all changed. Southie and Charlestown are all yuppies now. Gone are the days of southie Irish bars or armored car robberies from C Town kids.

You need to have someone from Boston with you when you talk about Boston. The Irish are no longer the prominent ethnicity in Boston. South Boston is now gentrified with the fancy breweries replacing the corner taverns. The Bulgers, Billy, president of the Massachusetts State Senate, and Jimmy, head of the Boston underworld have both been gone for over 20 years. The Mayor of Boston last name is Wu. The discrimination in the 19th century was more to do with being Irish than being Catholic, thus the signs on the doors, "Irish Need Not Apply". My grandfather faced this when he emigrated from Ireland in 1915. The difference was that due to that discrimination, the Irish stuck together more than others and when the Irish began to run for political office, they knew they could count on the entire Irish vote in the city. "Honey Fitz" Fitzgerald was when the real change began, when he was elected Mayor of Boston in 1910. Unlike the Brahmans, the Irish needed jobs so the patronage began, locking in support. The way South Boston is portrayed in Good Will Hunting was the real South Boston, all the way to the L Street Tavern which still stands today.

It's not the same. Fascists kill people because of their characteristics. Those who fought fascism in ww2 were stopping fascists. Fascists can't be stopped with words. Try stopping them with words. It won't work. You would not be able to negotiate with the gestapo. Read some history and learn from it. Ffs.

A lot of details in this video are misleading. For example, the Charles River does not in any way define the borders of Southie (as implied at 1:18). The claim that the Charles River separates the rich in Cambridge and the poor in Boston (6:37) is in no way true today or even historically, with longstanding affluent neighborhoods such as Beacon Hill and Back Bay sitting right against the water on the Boston side of the river. The shot at 6:52 is from the north of Boston (I.e. the Cambridge side of the Charles) looking south towards downtown Boston. Equating drinking Dunkin and being from Southie (6:19) is a bit of a stretch. A more realistic claim would be that it is a sign of being working class, which is what all these movies are about. Southie epitomizes the working class, just as Cambridge epitomizes the elites, and while there very much was and continues to be some friction between the two in Boston, there is no explicit rivalry between these two neighborhoods as this video would have you believe. The main points of Catholic vs Protestant, blue vs white collar, and Irish vs British ancestry are true. But, I think the video tried a little too hard to explain Boston motifs in movies that are just there because they are synonymous with the city regardless of whether or not you’re Irish and from Southie.

Until we were attacked by the communist progressives, our reputation in Boston as individuals willing to fight for that they believe was well deserved. Since we've been attacked, we now have sanctuary cities, a lesbian governor, a black Congress woman who skins her head, and a Chinese Mayor of Boston who expressly stated no white people allowed at her Christmas party. Gimme back my Boston!
