I believe that the most important statement is the very last sentence Hal shares. What good is an inquisitive, innovative and visionary leader if he does not create the environment and provides the resources to his leaders to innovate. That means: permission, time, and budgets that carve out 'space' to explore, experiment, fail and learn... whilst being demanding on results for such explorations. That 'space' can be created inside the walls of the corporation, adjacent to it, or deliberately outside of it, depending on how disruptive the innovation goals are. However, if all resources are dedicated to drive short time results, one cannot expect disruptive innovation to happen...

As an engineer working for big bank, I know we go backwards and far from being innovative. We have more procedures, limitations, audits rather than new tools, discussions and ideas. I want to show it to everyone that I work together.
