What makes Nostalgia so painful?

I recently rewatched Singin' In The Rain (1952) because I was bedridden with a back injury for a couple of days...man, it really hit different this time now that I'm in my late 20's...I understood it on a much more different level now and rediscovered a couple of jokes that went over my head as a kid. It literally felt like a warm hug and at the end I was crying tears, something which almost never happens! Nostalgia became my medicine, too❤

Sorry to hear about your back injury man, I’m glad that rewatching that helped. It’s always cool to see the things we’ve watched earlier in our lives almost take on a new meaning as we get older.

From my personal experience I've come to realize that nostalgia is like having a really bad itch that you try desperately to scratch. Only when you do scratch it the itch becomes worse.
