My doctor prescribed Belsomra for sleep - it works well as long as I take it three hours after eating - need an empty stomach for it to work - works well - thanks for the info!

Well executed talk. Interesting and relevant. Really helped me gain a primer on the DORA class of drugs. In my opinion I would change not much…it’s much harder to be engaging and teach without the assistance of dreaded PowerPoints so kudos to you Dr Kruse. Thank you!

It does not work on me. The first night taking 5mg, it leads to vivid dream in the middle of the night. The second night, no sleep was induced two hours after taking Dayvigo. So upset.

I would try to be patient, and if you can, try for a few weeks. Many people are used to being sedated into sleep, and these drugs don't work that way. They are also among the very few sleep agents that appear to work better the longer you take them.

5mg,???? Are you serious. No wonder it does not work. I take 50mg. At least 25mg one tablet. Also the whole efficiency kicks in after a week

Would this type of med be good for ADHD related insomnia. I’ve had a sleep disorder for over 20 years due to my adhd. It’s absolutely wrecked my life

In combination with robust behavioral / sleep hygiene approaches, I have seen many people with ADHD benefit from DORA medications for sleep.

For someone with over 10 years of onset insomnia AND who is exhausted/non-functional at daytime. Does this mean that modafinil + a DORA could be a very logical & rational combination? because they won't on the same system in opposite directions one would take modafinil in the early morning to survive the day, and take the DORA at night to block the effects of the modafinil that is lingering in the body? It'd be essential to take both, because modafinil has such an extremely long half-life? obviously I've tried everything else (e.g. CBT-i, stimulus control, sleep restriction therapy, blue light control, melatonin, etc.)

Most people without pre-existing insomnia can sleep okay with modafinil, so it's half life in most bodies isn't enough to disrupt falling asleep, if taken early enough in the day. For some, modafinil and a DORA do work effectively together, at different ends of the wake/sleep cycle.

Too long. Make it shorter and you'll increase viewership 10x

that might be true about viewership. I benefited from all of it, including the history. Maybe could make shorter video versions and have a link to the longer version if interested. Second video I've watched of yours; first was dream re-imaging. Both really good. I work in child psychiatry, wishing I understood neuroscience better. I've been at it for 15 years but I keep forgetting what I knew; when I'm trying to help someone, I feel like I'm trying to guide them through underground caves in the dark, with just a dim glow stick and an old book of stories about caves.

@@beemaningi thanks for sharing your viewpoint. I am thinking of using the take home messages and converting them to aKZbin shorts, but I have yet to experiment with the separate KZbin app needed for that.

I much preferred the longer format. I want a proper education if I'm going to take a serious drug. You can always watch it at 2X speed if you're impatient or lacking time!
