I NEED this. I'm literally married to one and it's a nightmare. Its one of the reasons I pre-ordered your book with a quickness. The 1 saving grace is that husband is aware of it and is getting help as well as therapy. His are more stupid little lies that have no positive or negative purpose at all. I think his is because of childhood trauma and a way to cope somehow. It's very child-like and difficult to navigate.

My mother-in-law was a pathological liar. When I first met I thought was was nice, a bit odd but pleasant enough. After a couple of weeks I thought I was going crazy. Until I realised what she was. The bizarre thing was that no one ever called her out on her lies.

I can't say much but the worst is to be in love with someone that pretends to love u but laughs at u behind ur back with his friend he said he didn't want to be seen with because she's a bad mom going backwards has herpes and says shes not anything more than a "rachet aunt" and she knows it. My ex husband, the psychopath, who is a PhD psychologist specializing in drug and alcohol counseling, and family counseling, is an alcoholic drug addict with delusions of grandeur. He will stand in front of you eating a burger and tell you it’s a banana. Or that he’s not eating anything. He told my son he had stage 4 lung cancer. He didn’t have any kind of cancer. He thinks he’s a great dad. 2 of our 3 kids don’t speak to him. He pretended to be an auxiliary cop. He walks around wearing a utility belt with radios, his volunteer rescue squad badge, and little pouches of who knows what. Always the aviators too. He IS the guy who would lie about being in Vietnam if he were a little older. Sadly for him the Middle East wars were too late for him. He’s claiming to work for the police again. At 68. Like they just hired a 68 year old alcoholic drug addict liar. Well, knowing the state of the US police force, who knows! Claimed to be a PI for a while and actually made business cards for himself. Seriously, the lies! Final straw was finding out we were $68k in debt and I didn’t know why. My own personal low cap credit cards were maxed. He wasn’t even on them nor did he have a copy. Our joint cards were maxed. At some point he took out a second mortgage without my knowledge. People, if your partner is telling a lot of nonsensical lies, they are the tip of the massive destructive iceberg that will pull you into the depths of icy water and drown you. They lie to you, to your marriage counselor, to doctors, family, friends, attorneys, judges, bankers, etc. Our marriage counselor pulled me aside and told me to just get the paperwork filed.

Wow, I hope you divorced him. I dated a sociopath like him and the lies were insane! (We didn't live together. Thank GOD) If your husband really is a psychopath all you can do is get away from him ASAP. He will lie and lie and lie till the cows come home, and then even lie some more. They do not live in reality, they CREATE reality. Wow! That's a real head phuk. There are sometimes people who think that pathological liars only hurt themselves and deserve our pity. Maybe that's the case for some. My own experience has shown me that they know very well what they are doing and the harm they inflict on others. Rather than admit their lies, they end up telling more lies to try to get out of the one they've been caught in. Living with one is emotionally draining. Non stop gaslighting and questioning every sodding thing that comes out of their mouth. I endured 16 years of it in my marriage. I thought it couldn't get any worse until I filed for divorce. It's a personal battle to remain psychologically intact.

I have several family members who are pathological liars and I get more and more angry every time one of them opens their mouths. I hope to someday get away from them completely and never have to suffer the lying, gaslighting , verbal and emotional abuse of these people again.

When I was a wee lad, I worked in a little bookstore in Portland, Oregon. One day, a publicist brought Lord Jeffrey Archer to our store to sign books, and when he walked in, he was visibly disgusted by how small the store was. He insulted everybody who tried to talk to him, and he was generally just a [expletive deleted]. I was profoundly impressed.

My dad is a pathological liar, he had a head injury in his 20’s and used to embellish and fabricate but as he has got older his lies don’t stem from anything factual at all. According to him, he’s been an architect, chef, pathologist, hotel manager… among other things!

I used to work with a pathological liar. I can't remember any lies being too terrible or harmful. But, you needed to assume anything he said was likely a lie. You could confront him on it: "why do you do this?" And he would just calmly say, " I don't know." I think *maybe* he did it to be more interesting. He was otherwise a fairly good person & good worker. I remember thinking I could never withstand being his wife, though ( he was married )

Yes I have had experience with a pathological liar that has a formal diagnosis of NPD and ASPD. One item that stood out when reading a part of a journal I had come across in which this person was discussing something they had done and knew it was wrong, but justified it by saying it "was a means to an end."

A former gf of mine is probably a pathological liar, as she lies about big things as much as about small things and even in situation in which she doesn't benefit from lying or doesn't risks being harmed by telling the truth. She also presents different versions of "the truth" to different people, while talking about the same event or person. She doesn't lie with EVERYTHING she says, but she lies so often, that I can't recommend to trust ANYTHING she says.

I knew a compulsive lier. It took me about 3 years to realize. By year 4 I fully understood that if her lips were moving she was lying, so that was the end of that friendship. Sad. A few years later I bumped into her husbsnd of 14 years. They'd divorced and he explained to me that I didn't understand. She wasn't lying cos she truly believed what she was saying and never once backed down, not even when confronted with undeniable evidence. Very strange. I'll never understand why. If you encounter someone like this: Save yourself. Run, Just run.

There's always a reward...taking a risk gives them internal excitement. If the person gets mad they can go to the next level of developing their excuse and if that doesn't work at least they upset the other person and created doubt in the other person shaking their self esteem and view of the world...if they don't get called out then they are the smartest. They always paint the picture to be the center...hero, victim, etc.

Super interesting. One of my friends growing up was described by my family as a "pathological liar." She did make up fantastic stories all the time and tell them as truth, but she was just a kid. I'm pretty sure she grew out of it.

I'm pretty certain I am a pathological liar. Bear with me here, and give me the benefit of the doubt if you like, or don't because I am fully aware I am not trustworthy in the slightest. I wish I could give a proper reason for it, but the closest I've found to this day is so completely underwhelming and silly; boredom. The thrill of a lie, the mental stimulation of having to keep the story afloat, keeping all the threads in order so I don't choke on it etc, is a high I genuinely have yet to find anywhere else. Getting people to believe me is like a hit, and I do not know how to stop. I've been doing it since I could speak, and my family didn't exactly help me shake the habit beyond distrusting me very openly and condemning me at every step. I don't blame them, but I resent that they did not even attempt to find me psychiatric assistance at a formative age. I know it's wrong. I know it's immoral, but I just cannot stop myself. As far as I'm aware, I don't have specific empathy issues beyond the usual emotional regulation difficulty that comes with ASD, but whether through compartmentalisation or through genuine lack of care I can barely even bring myself to feel bad for those I deceive, only for myself. It's not that I don't like or love those I lie to, it's simply that boredom is the most horrendous, crushing torture method imaginable to me and I would rather suffer actual physical torment than be left without mental stimulation for even the briefest period of time. It feels like my brain is eating itself, and rather than throwing a tantrum I've developed ways to entertain myself instead. Most conversations can be spiced up by lying, and although sometimes I'm sure I have some sort of agenda playing into it (such as making myself heard/giving my opinions in an argument weight) that's honestly (hah) the rarer occurance. Typically a lie I would tell would be something along the lines of "oh yes, did you know that there's a significant correlation between police officers and new york accents, despite the cultural origins of the officers in question? They just seem to develop them, presumably from television stereotypes. What's up with that, huh??' or "My pet pigeon regurgitated a red plastic bottle cap this morning." These lies do not serve an agenda. They do not make me sound cool. They do not garner sympathy. The single conceivable reason I can find is boredom. And I don't know how to treat that.

I spent 8 years with a man whose lies just rolled off his tongue. It was frustrating, sometimes infuriating, but there were good times, so I hung in that long. For instance, he'd say something like, "She/he said..." and then relate some statement that HE had said. Wha? When I first realized that so much of what he said was simply, provably not true, I was baffled. It seemed he'd rather make up his own version of his experience than simply relate the truth. Goofy stuff, of very little consequence. Once, a cousin of his asked me, confidentially, "Why does he DO that?" Beats me. Maddening, isn't it? I chalked it up to his family upbringing. His grandmother had told him in his teens that she'd rather he were dead than 'homosexual.' Maybe he'd gotten so used to hiding his authentic self that he just carried on when it was no longer useful. Wait--maybe he lied about that? We'd gotten so enmeshed that I just didn't know how to leave him. I escaped when he fell for an old ex of mine - got rid of both of them at the same time.

My brother had the unfortunate experience of dating one. She integrated herself with our family very, very quickly. She started by sowing the seeds of a story that her ex was abusive and beat her. We later found out this was untrue, but this is where there seeds sprouted and sympathy was gained. Once she had got comfortable with my family, which didn't take long, a matter of a week or so, the bigger lies started. They were very clever believable lies. First it was a simple lie about being able to play guitar, then it was being able to sing. This progressed to getting a record deal, and earning millions of pounds (but it was tied up and couldn't be released to her yet apparently). She played audio recordings of "her" signing on her phone to my brother and mum. My mum was mesmerised and my brother besotted with her. My partner however recognised the voice and found the original singer on KZbin. Turns out she had ripped off the audio track and just saved it as her name. I wish it ended there, but it gets much worse. She then announces that she has cancer, hodgkins lymphoma to be exact, and that she was going to be under going chemo, but with some advanced gel cap during so that she didn't loose her hair! Another lie, to cover up the fact actually nothing was going on with her.. Then she announced her mum had also been diagnosed with the same cancer at the same time, and they were going through this treatment together. (Back story, our mum is actually a cancer survivor, so this was very hurtful). My brother was beside himself. In between all of this he had paid for them to have a beautiful holiday abroad, gifts, etc etc. He really fell for her, hook line and sinker. Turns out once his money ran out she suddenly lost interest. I happened to work with her sisters fiance, so I asked him about the cancer. Again it was all lies. All of it.i sat my brother down and had one of the hardest conversations I've ever had in my life, revealing her lies. There's so much more that she lied about, but these were the biggest lies. It broke my brother and it took him a very long time to recover from it, and tryst anyone again. I've never met anyone so blatant. Like water off a ducks back to her! And we later found out its not the first time she lied about having cancer, she had done the same thing as a child at school. Something is definitely not right with the girl.

I was married to a pathological liar. The marriage was six years, two kids. The divorce was 11 years, seven passes from the mental health field, and $150,000. Three years ago he shot and killed an officer of the law in the back who was trying to help him, and he plea bargained for life without parole. I think it was his retirement plan. At 65, I can now open my drapes.

The utterly confusing aspect to this is how there may be truths sprinkled in, there may be bits completely fabricated, and oftentimes internally inconsistent. Blatant falshoods to no apparent end? My younger brother has been like that since he learned to walk. Can't trust a word out his mouth, and it always seems to hold him back. He apparently believes at least part of his utterances. There doesn't seem to be any harm or manipulation intended. It's far too disorganized and disjointed. It hurts him more than anyone else, tbh.

My ex boyfriend was a liar, who thought he was very clever. He ended up ending his life to end a police investigation in January 2015, which I think he did to control the situation. He was horrible towards me during our 10 year relationship and lied about everything because he believed his own lies. As Simon died before the police questioned him, that means no one can find out legally what the police were investigating my ex boyfriend about during 2014. The police raided my home in January 2015, after my ex boyfriend refused to tell them how he knew me and he denied he was the father of our young children. Simon killed himself within hours of my home being police raided and left our families without any answers to his situation. I would like to find out what Simon was being police investigated about because I think he got away with more than the police could ever find out because of Simon living in a world of deceit and lies.

I have noticed many pathological liars working within the history profession, or those claiming to be historians. I have noticed a trend over many years, where historians prop up and almost deify prominent people in society, especially politicians, making them sound like saints when they were anything but that. Many have written about Lincoln in this manner, when in reality, he was a racist, and when president, many in the north and south saw him as a tyrant over his actions. Only a few historians will speak of his entire history, warts and all. Instead, they seem to belong to a Church or Cult of Lincoln, where's he seems to have been made into a political deity within the US. They've written about other politicos, presidents, princes, kings, and potentates like that as well, and the majority of it is propagandistic and fabrications. Quotes have even been fabricated by a few historians. When in secondary school, I knew two boys my age the same way. Almost everything they said was a lie, and it was almost as if they were trying to brag about themselves using lies to do it. One even claimed to have been in California, when I know for a fact that he had never traveled out of our state.

Your video's are awesome. My example would be a female neighbour that assaulted me twice, I had it on video camera, got the police involved.... and she still said she didn't do it. She has PBD..... And got away with it.

Two examples of what I have come away with after viewing are, Firstly, I should always be plugging🙂 & secondly I best make sure that I have as intended unsubscribed from "Dr" Grande here on KZbin. ( I had👌) You did make me laugh when you said, Pseudologica Fantastica was not a magic spell to make his videos seem more interesting. No, much more than that. I find this subject very interesting. I have come across & even been involved with quite a few compulsive liars throughout my life. Starting with my dad. He lied to me a lot, most of the time when there was no need & he stood to gain nothing from the lies he told. He did tell lies at other times though & over time I lost trust in him. In the end, I didn't know when he was being truthful & when he was lying. I still don't. My mum lied as well, most of the time to cover for him. Bizarro indeed! What this did was affect & change my views on trust and on my ability to trust. I was also given a confusing message by both my parents on the importance of truth. Do not lie. Do not lie. Do not lie in here. However, do not tell anyone anything that happens in this house. So do not lie in this house, but do lie if anyone outwith asks about anything going on in this house.

I have a sibling who is a PL. I don't understand it, but she has been doing it since she was a child. I worry about the effect on my niece. who is now an adult. No one in our family has ever really confronted her about it, except when she was a child - like calling her out on her lies when she was young. There are six kids in our family and she's the youngest and the only one who was adopted. It's interesting to see how this is a real case of nature vs. nurture, where nature obviously won out over the example of how the rest of us grew up. It's basically pointless to try to call her out on her exaggerations and embellishments or even her incorrect version of reality. I really believe her reality of events and situations changes and that she believes it, and trying to argue with her just makes her dig in her heels even more. The hardest part of it, now, is that my mom is suffering from Alzheimer's or dementia, and knowing the what the reality of her situation actually is, since the youngest sister lives with her.

I'm so glad your 2 boys have 1 responsible parent ( I'm talking about their mother ) 😁 The more I watch your videos the more I think I wouldn't mind having some of these conditions as my life is boring with only spinal pain and hospital appointments to look forward to btw who gave you the photo of my family that's hanging behind you ? I took that photo while flying around on my dragon. Anyway I think I know someone who is a pathological liar but I'm not sure if it's one lie that just got deeper and out of control and she couldn't stop it. She said she was engaged then the wedding plans were gone into over months. She was a colleague and very beautiful. She even had another colleagues small daughter fitted for a flower girls dress. You know where I'm going with this. Months later the wedding day loomed and even the week of the wedding nobody knew where it was taking place. There was no wedding EVER. I can understand people being annoyed and even furious but I cannot understand the way people treated her. They had a pack mentality of viciousness that had me and 4 others protecting her. I never want to meet people like them again but I'm sure I will unfortunately. Instead of helping her by talking to her and getting her professional help they were relentless. The woman whose daughter was fitted for the flower girls dress was hurt but knew our colleague didn't mean to hurt so she and I brought our colleague into the boss who is a very understanding man and we talked it through and once she was comfortable we left our colleague and our boss make personal calls to her family etc and she got the help she needed. I made a career change so I don't know how she is now but I think of her often.

Dr Das you recently appeared on a YT channel of another creator. You can probably guess who by the alarming number of comments you received after. I have known him tell inconsequential lies often, lies for sensationalism and lies to inflate his accomplishments and life experiences, also lies purely to obtain likes and money. I would love to know which category he is in

Really good that.I wouldn't have the metaphorical balls to lie on large scale.Do you know of the Ravi Zacharias case? A very successful Christian Apologist who claimed to have been a Cambridge graduate and also claimed to have aPhd in Theology from Cambridge.After his death about 3 years ago,it transpired that neither was true.Two porkies that paled into insignificanc when it came to light that he'd been sexually abusing young women throughout his career spanning 40 years.This man set himself up as a paragon of Christianity Listening to him used to give me hope.I tell you,I ,as a mere subscriber to his channel felt sick and cheated.Cannot begin to imagine how his immediate family were affected.Politicians like JA and the rest of them, you expect nothing less.Have to say the lies out of that judge made me laugh! People are bloody mad aren't they! And I know you agree with that!

@@APsychForSoreMinds its ok to focus on it, I actually like your content. Though be honest find you a wee bit sad in that you are trying too hard to have people like you. Maybe dtress less on people liking you and more on your content and stories, it's just my opinion, though I think you would do much better. All the top KZbinrs rarely bang on about wanting people to like their content. Wish you all the best as I said I like your content or would not waste my time, I appreciate you and your opinions and you have an engaging personality but to be honest I cringe a bit when you bang on sometimes especially when you interrupt your stories to do so. I disagree, was put off Grande when he said that Trump, did not have NPD. Dr Das said that Grande was not an actual doctor but just a Counselor and I believe Dr Das. Das is very informative, funny and witty. Btw my credentials on NPD are only that I have a mother with all of the traits of NPD and I recognise the same in Trump.
