Today we will see how the confession compares to those which came from various other time periods. We will be looking at those of the Reformation era which came before it like the Helvetic, Belgic, and Augsburg Confessions. We will also look at those which came alongside it in the Post-Reformation period like the Westminster, and Savoy, and to those which came after it in the modern period.

Hi David, just watched this video in 2024. I’ve found a church that still sells The 1689 Baptist confession of faith and Baptist catechism (leather bound) in stock so I’ll be ordering a copy soon. Could you confirm the size of this book please L, B and W. Thank you sir. Great content by the way. 😊

This video and one you recorded a month earlier on the 1689 LCF were the first two videos by you I ever watched. Two of the reasons why I subscribed to your channel are you views on the 1689 LCF and the way you speak your mind. I intend to watch more of your videos. God bless you, your family, and your congregation.

I am six months into studying the 1689 Westminster Confessional and I was watching a four part series on world history last night as it dealt with John Churchill and Louis the 14th. It described the military BATTLES again between Catholic’s and Protestants. I was told the 1689 was unique too because the ministers waited to sign it. Some scholars say it was very dangerous for them to sign any confessions before things settled in 1689! I didn’t realize how people were being put to death over these things… and by other CHRISTIANS NO LESS. As people we are a MESS!

@francineclave2207 maybe you can explain to me the differences between the Westminister of 1646.. the London of 1689 and the Baptist of 1689... and WHY there are differences... I really wanted to find out the differences between all the confessions.. more specifically between the Westminister of 1646.. the London confession I of 1689...the London confession II of 1689...?.. and the Baptist confession of 1689... because though the chapter count and articles between the 2 .....the London 1689 and Baptist 1689 one are the same.. the scripture references.. are a little different I appreciate the history given.. but.. I think this video had too many side bits of information.. for me to actually piece together and get my questions answered.. If you could just tell me WHY.. the London one needed to be adopted in the first place...since the Westminister 1646 was still in place........ .... what is the difference in years of creation between the London I and London II... confessions... why is the Baptist one similar to the articles Of the London 1689..but the scriprural references are NOT.. Why after chapter 20 or so .. the London of 1689 and Baptist 1689...differ from the Westminister one of 1646..regarding information...

@glovergator maybe YOU can explain to me the differences between the London I and the London II.. and why the London 1689 had to change from the Westminister of 1646.... also why the scripture references in the Baptist 1689.. are Not all exactly like the London 1689... I am severely puzzled and bothered.. about why these changes.. were made...is there some sort of church split going on that caused this?..any info would be helpful...

Although he died in 1688 would you say John Bunyan would have been a supporter of the 89 confession?
@DavidRoush1689
@DavidRoush1689 2 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. I'm not sure. I love Bunyan, and so far as I know he affirmed Baptism for believers by immersion. His church, however, affirmed a kind of open membership allowing for other "modes" of baptism. If one wanted to pursue this more you could try and track down if Bunyan's church sent representatives to affirm/adopt the confession at the assembly of Reformed Baptists in 1689.

Why do you think the 1689 authors changed one word from the Westminster in Section 18.1? It troubles me. The Westminster states “hypocrites” but the BCF states “temporary believers.” 18.1: “Although temporary believers, and other unregenerate men, may vainly deceive themselves with false hopes and carnal presumptions of being in the favour of God and state of salvation, which hope of theirs shall perish;”… To me, it’s a pure Arminian belief that is being subtly espoused, and is antiscriptural. You either are a converted regenerated believer, or an unbeliever as the clause indicates. What are your thoughts?

What is the confessions position on the nation Israel? I'm just now learning what dispensationalism and non dispensationalism is. Where do those holding this confession stand on the Israel and the millennial kingsom?
@DavidRoush1689
@DavidRoush1689 2 жыл бұрын
Hello brother, I just noticed your question now even though you posted it two weeks ago. There are various views on the millennium, but those who holds to either the 1689 or the Westminster confession of faith would affirm that God's purpose for Israel is largely fulfilled in the coming of Christ. There is a good series by Brandon Adams on covenant theology and dispensationalism on KZbin.

Another thing you can look up, which is a position held by many who hold to the 1689, is called 1689 Federalism -- Brandon Adams and Samuel Renihan are good sources for this topic.

Does anyone know why it's the 'Second' LBC?
@DavidRoush1689
@DavidRoush1689 2 жыл бұрын
The Baptists published a confession of faith in the 1640's. Later in the century the Baptists acknowledged and substantially agreed with what was written in the first. Greater detail and explanation is found in the brief 'to the reader" preface fixed to most copies of the 1689 ("Second LBCF")
