Not a bad review. BUT - the Battle scenes were NOT 'supercool'. Super cool battle scenes are what you get in the 1970 Waterloo film, or Glory. Musket era armies did not climb out of trenches and charge at each other like vikings. They did not camp in rows of tents which suspiciously seem to be in identical clumps almost as if the CGI had been cut and pasted. In fact, they didn't have tents at all until the mid 19th century. There were no national flags plastered all over their campsites (although there was the occasional regimental standard which we never see). Sharpshooters at the time did not have telescopes strapped to their muskets. Toulon was not surrounded by a Medieval wall, it was surrounded by 'star' formations of earthworks topped by squat, artillery supporting walls fronted by deep, wide dry moats. Musket era armies spent time manouvering and counter manouvering to get the best positional advantage so their artillery and line infantry could cause the maximum damage, whilst using cavalry as a screen. This is what Napoleon excelled at, and we saw none of it. I don't think I saw a single volley from a unit of line infantry. Basically, he used the same battle techniques as he used in Gladiator, with the same dreary grey filter covering everything. The ponds at Austerlitz were drained in the 1970's. About three bodies found. No horses, no cannonballs and hardly any items of uniform accoutrements.

That's my point-"coolness" was prioritized over historical accuracy. Fun to watch, but not realistic.

@@Storylosopher I agree fully. Only... coolness would have been achieved without making stuff up, and perhaps including stuff which was missed out. The battle scenes in 'Waterloo' and 'War and peace' were far cooler not just because they were authentic, but they used thousands of extras all trained in the tactical manoevres of the period. Toulon would have been far cooler if it had been depicted like it was, which was surrounded by massive 'star' fortifications defended by heavy guns. Not a castle wall.

Everything, it’s so disappointing because Alien, Bladerunner gladiator….are amazing…..and this is comical, it’s like he hated Bonaparte

I don't know if he hates him, but it does seem like an odd portrayal. Seems unbalanced from a story perspective.

My knowledge of Napoleon Bonaparte is enough to say it's horrible I mean some funny takes and minimizing is fine but u have to do it under limits Napoleon is kinda guy who would kill his wife if she cheated and he even married an other woman in the end The events were horrible short an lack plots elements

David Scarpa just might go down as the worst screenwriter in film history. Scarpa is terrible. I really wonder how he became a screenwriter for the great Ridley Scott? Did he marry into his family or does he have blackmail on someone at Scott Free Productions? I just heard that Scarpa's inspiration for the screenplay of Gladiator 2 was Beavis and Butthead! What a low IQ loser! I hope the visuals, acting and soundtrack of Gladiator 2 can overcome Scarpa's writing.

A movie isn't a documentary but if it's grossly inaccurate then what's the point? Totally unbelievable and silly. In short........ it sucked. Don't have to "be there" to see it.
