Rick Rubin really took RHCP to another level.
@AndrewKarczewski
@AndrewKarczewski Жыл бұрын
So did John Frusciante … ( Most of the songs off ‘Mother’s Milk’ and the recording sessions were written by John Frusciante when he was 17 and had not yet joined RHCP, but was jamming with his friend D.H. Peligro. So, ‘Mother’s Milk’ isn’t really a RHCP album, it’s basically a collection songs written by 17 year old John Frusciante with contributions from Flea (Higher Ground, Pretty Little Ditty), drum credits shared between D.H. Peligro + Philip “Fish” Fisher + Chad Smith then, Anthony Keidis adding vocals on top. All of which is a long way of saying ‘Blood Sugar Sex Magik’ is the first RHCP album with John Frusciante and Rick Rubin. )

@@elizabethjohnson6386Definitely! It's so weird because it almost transforms the mix completely. I remember in his first video about All The Small Things, when he pointed out the octave synth in the chorus. I'd never noticed it before, since it was so buried in the mix. But after he pointed it out, it brought it right to the top of the mix for me and I hear it clear as day every time. It's almost like an auditory illusion

Flea was right all along. According to him, he as a bass player must listen to the sounds around him as the BASELINE SUPPORT of all the other instruments. He must be aware of what is happening around him. I'm picking the bass now and its a J bass.

Pinoy keyboard warrior - I hope you’ve gotten into bass since you wrote this! I always say it’s easy to be ok on bass and difficult to master. It’s not just boringly going along with the song - often the bass IS the song. It’s a melody and a rythym instrument and a good bassist is listening to everything around them and holding everything together. It’s so fun.

The rhythm guitar at the end is totally the riff from Sweet Leaf. I'm surprised there was no mention of that. You r a great teacher Ric. Probably the best the internet can offer. Can u talk a bit more about the development process of a song. Your "what makes this song he8' videos feels like a running commentry of a game i am watching. People who r learning music can hear different instruments in a mix. Playing tracks separately and telling what notes or chords r played is helpfull to copy that music. If you can talk more about the phylosophy bevind the music, would have been super helpfull. We r already grateful for What you r doing. We r greedy we want more.

Rick, your videos are top notch and I really enjoy them. I play guitar a bit, just a hobby so not that great. Yet I love analysis like this as it shows how the bands work, that they don't just jam until something sounds good (oh I'm sure that happens now and then, but often there is much more to songs than that). Thanks for this and other great videos you've made.

Not only do the vocals have a pitch, but most of the time he sits on the flatted 5th of the key (tri-tone). Which is what makes this song sound so funky and bouncy and goofy and carefree and fun. Well, that and the Jew's harp.

There are two types of videos you can click “Like” on before they even begin to play; the ones posted by a channel you’re a fanboy of - and every episode of WMTSG! 😛🤟👊 Man I’ve heard this song a million times and now you just gave me a reason to listen to it another million times! 😂 I’m a little surprised you didn’t play the solos in reverse, but maybe you put that on instagram! Btw, don’t you think about the little “tribute” to Sabbath during the outro? 😃

While it's certainly possible to have too many melodies/a busy melody happening at once, you probably can never have too much rhythm--and the Chili Peppers have always known this :D
